VI BRAGA WIND BANDS CONTEST – BRAGA - PORTUGAL
PREAMBLE
The Braga Wind Bands Contest aims to be a band gathering, where everyone contributes to the increased
visibility and importance of these institutions in the social, cultural end artistic environment of our country.
We all know that each band has its own identity, history and prestige. However, although we respect their
diferences, the Braga Wind Bands Contest considers that all the participating bands are equal and therefore
should not be pre-classified in diferente orders or categories, according to criteria that rarely reflects the
identity characteristics of each one of them.
We propose a contest joining up to fifteen bands in a single category, being sure that all the participating
bands have many possibilities to compete for prizes, besides the right to thr recording of a CD of thr
participation that all the bands will receive.
Folowing the contributions that were referred to the Organising Committee, together with the experience
gained in previous editions, the VI edition of WBCBraga will have some features that intente tp provide
better conditions to all participants, of which the folowing stand out:
Fixation of the limit of 80 musicians enrolled per band, with the aim of approaching competing
bands to its format in real life contexto.
Each freely selected piece can only be presented by one band;
Introduction of more number of criteria for evaluation;
Regulatory limitation between the minimum and maximum score attributed by the juries to each
band, may not exceed 10 points;
Autonomisation of the Prize of “São João”, opening the possibility to the bands that intente to
come exclusively to this contest, being the prize of “São João” subject to registration and exclusive
to Portuguese bands. All the winning bands of this prize will receive a contract in the amount of
4.000,00 €;
Increase in the monetary value prizes for the top three prize-winners: 3.000,00€ for 1st place,
2.000,00€ for 2nd place and 1.000,00€ for 3 rd place.
