2 THE G.R.RONDINA TRAIN

During the design and the production processes, measures have been carried out, to ensure that our product's

performances are obtained with the maximum safety. This operation and maintenance manual shows important

instructions regarding the safety of installation, the operation and the maintenance of both the locomotive and of the

wagons. It is therefore of paramount importance, that the operator carefully follows the present document.

This equipment for fairs and leisure parks shall be employed only for the operation for which it has been

expressly conceived, that is to the play and entertainment of Children. Any other use is to be considered as improper

and dangerous.

The Children of less than the three years age shall be accompanied by an adult.

Our firm refuses any responsibility in the case the safety instructions shown in this manual are not fully

enforced and in the case a parent has allowed his child of less than three years age to enter the train in the absence of

an adult taking the responsibility to supervise him.

3 REFERENCE STANDARDS

Even if not expressly applicable, and waiting for the issue of the relevant EU- Rule, which is presently in preparation

following the principles of the EU- Directive covering the safety of the machines, we have made reference as far as

applicable, to the following EU- Directives (89/392EEC, 91/368EEC, 93/44EEC, 93/68EEC).

5 OPERATING CONDITIONS

The operation of the G.R.RONDINA train has been carefully analysed having in mind the safety of both the

operator and of the customers. The results have shown that a proper employ makes it fully safe. This Manual has

been written to establish the proper operation procedures and represents the necessary instrument for the operator

and for the installator of the train.

Regarding the procedures covering the various steps (installation, check, etc.) reference is made to the next

chapters.

The rules, the operator has always to have in mind are:

DO NOT SWITCH THE TRAIN ON IN CONDITIONS OF BAD WEATHER. AVOID

FIRST OF ALL OPERATING IN PRESENCE OF RAIN, AND NEVER SWITCH THE

TRACK IN PRESENCE OF WATER (PUDDLES) OR OF EXCESSIVE HUMIDITY

6 INSTALLATION

After having carefully unpacked the different components of the train, (track, locomotive, coaches, roofs, feed

cabinet etc.), verify their good integrity, pointing your attention to the electrical and mechanical components first.

The installation of the train is divided into three different steps:

1. Positioning of the track and of the fences

2. Positioning of the train on the track

3. Connection of the electrical parts and of the controls

6.1 Track positioning

The existing track widths are two: The greater one (0.50m) is associated to the models A, M e N (Spatial, Funny

Clown 1 and Funny Clown 2), the smaller one (0.40m) is employed for all the remaining models.

Both the dimensions can be sold with straight and with curved tracks.

With the above elements it is possible to build a number of routes. Some examples are shown below

G.R.RONDINA are ready to evaluate other route configurations on request. G.R.RONDINA warn their customers,

not to employ counterfeited tracks, also for short lengths, because of the serious danger that a breaking involves.

A point of paramount importance is the safety space, to be assured round on the track. This has

to be ensured by the purposely-designed fencing, supplied together with the train. Said gear is

designed to safeguard the audience from physical damage caused by the movement of the train, (such

as impacts, etc), as well to the passengers (such as for rapid evacuation, impacts e.g. of a tense hand

against an obstacle). It is required therefore, that the safety space around the track be not less than 1

metre form the outer rail.

If the customer does not acquire the fencing, the manufacturer of the train is exempted from any responsibility, both

with regard to civil and to criminal law in case of an accident due to the absence or nonconformity of said gear. It is

in any case to the operator to ensure the installation of proper protection fences to operate the train.

If the train is assembled in open spaces, the area chosen must guarantee a rapid draining

of the rainfall. It is of outmost importance to operate with the track perfectly dry.

It is strictly forbidden to assemble routes with slopes of more than 2%, not foreseen in the safety

system of the train.

Transverse slopes have also to be avoided, for the proper operation of the train, and to avoid a rapid

wear of the anti-derail system. Check the horizontality of the track through a proper instrument (level)

during the assembly on site.

The positioning of the track on metal supports not being properly insulated is forbidden, because of the risk

of short circuit between the rails, which are electrically isolated through the dielectric sleepers.

Possible side movements of the track must be avoided, locking the sleepers to the ground.

The route must be perfectly visible to the operator, when he is in the control position: the one

where he has to start and stop the train. The part of the route dedicated to the loading- and

unloading of the Children-passengers has to be very carefully watched, being without fencing.

6.2 Positioning of the train on the track

When the positioning of the track has been completed, before to assemble the last straight element, it is

necessary to proceed with the positioning of the train, which is normally composed by a locomotive and some

coaches. Start positioning the last coach (rear). The remaining coaches will follow, and as last item, the locomotive

will be positioned, which is the item with the greatest weight. After this, the last track element can be positioned

The mechanical connection between two coaches is made (see fig 1) by a

special connecting arm. The bolt for said connection must be placed head-on,

nut-down. The electric connection is obtained through a dedicated socket.

6.3 Electric control system

Following the attached electrical scheme, the installation consists of:

- Positioning of the feed cabinet and of its control board in a position, that the

operator feels easy to work with, sheltered from weather perturbances and protected from

possible interventions from non-authorised personnel.

- Connection of the electrical (D.C.) feed coming from the cabinet to the two rails, employing single -pole cables,

protected from shearing. The cross section of the cables shall be of not less than 10 sq. mm each for lengths of less

than 5 m, and of 15 sq. mm for lengths of more than 5m. The positive pole shall be connected to the rail with the (+)

mark, using the red cable. The negative pole of to the rail with the (-) mark, using the black cable (see fig.2).

- The runs counter, mounted on a dedicated sleeper, is then to be connected. Remark. Since the counter determines

the stop of the train, it has to be positioned in the area dedicated to the loading unloading of the Children-passengers.

- The train works with the max voltage Vmax = 60V D.C.. generated by the static group fed

by the transformer, at its turn fed by a grid voltage of 220-230V a 50 Hz, or 110V 60 Hz

before connecting to the grid, it is therefore necessary to check that: The grid voltage

corresponds to those values and that the electric plant (Wattmeter, differential thermo

magnetic switch, feed line protected from shearing) is properly dimensioned for the electric

load, which adds load to other existing electrical equipment. A fluctuation of +/-10 % of the rated voltage is

allowed.

- The use of adapters, and of multiple sockets is forbidden. Should additional cable length be needed, it is imperative

to employ materials conforming to the existing rules (cables must be and have adequate cross section), and

employing adequately skilled personnel should be necessary to employ an additional stroke of cable, use;

- The electric feed must be connected to an efficient earthing circuitry conforming to the existing

rules (CEI 64-12 or equivalent);

- In the case the feed cable length is more than 100 m long, it is

necessary to install more feed points.

7 FIRST RUN

It is important to perform the first run properly , to avoid unwanted troubles during operation. The steps to be

performed are:

a) Hand-push the train for a complete round, to assess, that there are no obstacles to the movement

b) Connect to the grid, after a voltage check

c) Turn the feed key on the control cabinet.

d) Trim the speed selector switch to the minimum.

e) Start the train through the green button on the keyboard.

f) Perform a number of complete rounds at minimum speed, checking whether the movement is

correct, the absence of anomalous noise, checking the round –counter, the STOP button on the keyboard, and the

emergency pushbutton

g) Perform some other rounds, letting the speed grow up to the value foreseen for normal operation.

In case of malfunctioning, proceed immediately with the checks foreseen at chapter Maintenance and do not

allow in any case the use of the train by Children.

When the above steps are completed, proceed trimming the sounds made by the train during its operation. Such

trimming is performed with the train running, by adjusting the relevant knobs on the locomotive and wagons. Access

to said knobs is obtained opening the hatch in front of the eats (if present), otherwise raising the body of the

machine

8 DAILY START

Perform the operations contained between points c) and g) of the chapter before.

Such operations require some minutes, and are to be considered as unavoidable for the proper use of the train,

because they allow a rapid check of the working conditions, which is not possible to be performed in any other way.

Some daily checks as detailed in the following para.12.1 are also to be carried out

9 OPERATION

9.1 Control board

The following signals/ controls exist (see fig.3)- 1) Magneto-thermal protection on the track feed line; 2) Round duration time control switch: "Timer"; 3) Speed control switch. 4) General feed keyswitch.

It’s possible to modify the train speed by turning the 6-position regulating switch on the control board of the

feeding cabinet.

We recommend to tune the train speed at a value, which is not too high, to avoid any risk from

panic o to other causes.

The checks of the structure strength, and of the safety against overturning or derailing have

been performed anyway at full train speed.

9.2 Control Keyboard

The train can only be started by the operator by switching the "START" pushbutton on the keyboard.

In case a stop is wanted, operate on the "STOP" pushbutton, to immediately stop the

train in any point of the track.

An emergency STOP pushbutton exist, which allows a rapid stop, with a reduction by

the 60% of the normal braking run on the track.

It is a red mushroom type pushbutton, conforming to CEI rules.

Once you have use the emergency stop to re -establish the control unit:

• First turn of the key on the stop position

• Press and turn on your lefth the emergency stop

• Make sure to get rid of the obstruction which have cause the arrest, before the starting. Also make sure

that the emergency stop is returned in the right position, otherwise the train doesn’t start.

9.3 Tasks of the operator

The operator shall follow, keeping it within his sight, the run of the train, making sure that the safety

instructions provided are followed.

The Children can only get into the train, when this is stopped in the starting area. After having let the

Children sit down, the operator must ascertain that their safety belts have been fastened. For no reason is the train

running admitted if the safety belts are not fastened.

Children of less than 3 (three) years must be accompanied by an adult

The operator must make himself sure, that the safety chain located in the side opposite to the boarding one

has been properly latched to its ring, both on the locomotive, and on the coaches.

The train running is directly operated from the operator by switching the power on

from his control board.

The operator must carefully watch that the Children stay on their seats, no one standing up

during the run. In this event he must intervene lowering the speed and finally stopping the train.

A CAUTION THAT PARENT SHOULD DRESS THEIR CHILDREN IN WELL-FITTING SHOES AND AVOID

LOOSE-FITTING CLOTHING WHICH MIGHT BE CAUGHT BETWEEN MOVING PARTS

9.4 Emergency systems – Evacuation procedure

Emergency sistem: In case of a power failure, he train automatically stops in the position where it

is at the moment the power fails. If the power is again activated, the train does not start again by it.

The operator has to press again the "START" pushbutton on the keyboard connected to the feeding

cabinet to let the train star again running.

Evacuation procedure : to procede the operator should push the emergency stop on the controller and open all the

safety security installed on the train. Help the children to exit from the train and accompanied to a safety place.

Besides to use the installation procedure item 6, for the security prevention of the place where the train will be

intalled comply with the EEC regulation in force in your country

10 TRANSPORT

10.1 Packing

The original packing, given by G.R.RONDINA with the supply, is made of special cardboard sets. This

guarantees the structural integrity against possible shocks due to normal transport.

The track elements, due o their nature, are being supplied loose. It is important to transport them in a

horizontal position, and not in a standing one, (Rail plane turned by 90° degrees from the horizontal).

It is recommended to protect the equipment from the humidity, in case of prolonged storage.

The best way is to store the equipment inside a building.

10.2 Handling

Handling of the most heavy items, like the locomotive and the coaches, has to be carried out with due care.

The weight of the locomotives in particular is such, that handling is forbidden if not using a mechanical hoisting

mean.

Alternatively, in particular in case of travelling rides, G.R.RONDINA has developed a handling system,

allowing the loading/unloading of the heaviest locomotives by a truck-mounted crane boom.

11 CLEANING

Before starting the operations described at this section the socket has to be unplugged.Use lukewarm water

and neutral soap to clean steel and Fiberglas parts on the locomotive and on the coaches, paying attention, not to let

water enter the machine or the electrical parts under the Fiberglas structure of the locomotive. Dry with a clean cloth

all Fiberglas and steel parts that have been wetted during the cleaning operations.

It is recommended to perform a periodical cleaning of the trains located near the sea, to limit

corrosion.

12 MAINTENANCE

The G.R.RONDINA train has been designed to optimise maintenance operations. In case of normal use, a few

operations will grant good performances for very long time.

12.1 Daily checks

It is important to perform the operations foreseen for the daily running. In case unexpected facts, such as

movement hindrances, anomalous noise, or the like show up, an immediate intervention with the proper repair

operations is needed. See chapt.10).

It is moreover important to verify by sight:

- The integrity of the lighting system, substituting immediately the covers damaged from splintering or broken

lamps;

- The condition and the positioning of the feeder cable;

- The condition and the positioning of the track D.C. Feed cable.

- Possible malfunctioning of the control board and/or of the keyboard and of its cable.

12.2 Periodical checks

After a long inactivity, some days after the new installation and in every case within six months of operation, a

thorough check of the conditions of the train have to be carried out, as described in this chapter.

First of all disconnect the system from the grid by unplugging the feed socket

To enter under the body, you have to:

- Unscrew the two relevant bolts;

- Lift the body letting it pivot on the rear hinges;

- Put the retainer rod in position.

You have a safe and free access to wheels and drivers.

12.2.1 Transmission chain

One of the causes of the growth of the train noise can be related to the tensioning of

the transmission chain (see fig.5).

The chain must be straight, to make oscillations impossible. We stress the fact, that lack of

chain tensioning causes rapid wear of the same and its following rupture.

In fig.6 we show the way to correctly tension the chains. Operate first on bolts 1 and 2 of fig 6 to set the

chain that moves the dr1ving wheel.

Set then bolt 3 of fig.6 to tension the chain connected to

the motor. Pay attention to correctly lock the position obtained,

by operating on both nut and locknut.

Clean the chain with special thinners at every

scheduled check and, subsequently, provide a suitable greasing

12.2.2 Geared wheels

Visually check the integrity of the component. Clean and fatten up.

12.2.3 Driving wheels

The substitution of the wheels is foreseen in case the minimum thickness is not reached. Is necessary

therefore to effect a dimensional control:

The diameter of the carrying structure of the wheel (fig.7) must not be less than 125mm.

- The shoulder of the wheel must have a minimum thickness of 10mm (fig8).

If the use of the train is done according to the indications for a daily use of 4-5 hours the middle period of

life of the wheels is around 36 months. Clearly a use not in line with the normal case (for example the lack of

planarity of the track) or the presence of aggressive external agents (proximity to the sea, sand etc.) can notably

reduce the durability of the equipment.

12.2.4 Anti derailing wheels

It is good practice to replace the anti-derailing wheels, if they show considerable wear. We underline that

their deterioration is tied up to the lack of horizontality of the sleeper.

12.2.5 Electric plant on the locomotive

Periodically check the contacts of the electric feeding and verify that the lock screws

of the bornes and the connection cables of the feeding cabinet are correctly tightened (fig.9).

Remember that the circuits of the loudspeakers and of the lightening

of the train are protected with fuses. In case part of the lights does not work it

is necessary to check their state. The fuses are installed in a dedicated box

on the connection of the lights (front part of the locomotive see pt.A in

fig.10) and inside the box of the sound level and lights regulation (pt.B and C

in fig.10). From the image it results the apparent easiness of access to both

the components by lifting the body of the locomotive.

12.3 Electric Motors

Perform this check every 800 hours of operation. You reach them by unscrewing the black body (see fig.11) Each motor has four brushes. In general the working length of the brushes is about 60% of their total length when new. Substitute the brush when it is worn for more than half of its length. Remove the carbon dust from the collector ring area by blowing in dry compressed air into the brush holder, before re-installing the brushes. Verify that the brushes can run free after re-installing them. (black colour – fig11).

12.4 Scheduled Interventions

The maintenance interventions are essentially two:

- Substitution of drive wheels;

- Change of the anti-derailment wheels.

The operations are not complex, but they require the intervention of experienced personnel. We recommend above

all to work with the maximum care and cleanliness.

12.5 How to order the spare parts

A special form lists all the parts that compose it accompanies each train model. Once the piece to be replaced is

located and the relevant part number identified, require it through fax or letter, always specifying:

- Model of train;

- Number of the complete series (available on the nameplate attached on the frame);

- Year of manufacture;

- Part number of the part to be replaced;

- In case, a short description of the way it broke up.

To make such operation easier, a dedicated form has also been made (attached to this manual).

12.6 SPECIFICATION TRAIN MODEL CLOWN MOBILE CLOWN HEAD

This model only has a mobile part of the outer structure. The clown head in particular, which is installed on the fore part of the first car Moves from the right to the left and back (see fig.1). This movement is actuated through a dedicated motor. To get access to that motor one has to lift the body (X). fig 1 Fig 1

The motor (see fig.2) is directly attached to the frame through a collar(2) held by two screws. The motor doesn’t need any particular maintenance. In case the movement is not actuating, the following must be done: - check that the terminal board (1) is correctly connected; - Should the malfunction persist, a check of the motor should be made.

Installation - lock the motor inside the collar and tighten the two screws; - lock the transmission arm to the pin before tightening the nut 1

- check the alignment of the head( Fig 3); - lock the feed cables

CHANGING OF THE HEAD BULBS The presence of a series of coloured lamps on the edge of the hat is a second characteristic of this model. Their possible substitution is very easy:

- Lift the escutcheon plates by a screwdriver (fig.4);

- detach the bulb feeding cables from the terminal board; - extract the bulb by pushing it outwards (fig.7); - when the new bulb is inserted, repeat in reverse sequence the operation performed.

13 SAFETY FENCING

As previously written, it is essential to avoid any access from the public to the track. For this reason

G.R.RONDINA supplies a fencing together with train, which is for its mechanical and physic characteristics, apt to

the purpose.

In case the customer didn't install it, or replaced it with another one, we state clearly that such element is

essential for the safety of the operation of the train.

In the case anyway there was any intrusion on the track, it is the operator's responsibility to provide to avoid

possible damages caused by the motion of the train, or by the electric feed present on the track, by stopping the run

immediately.

14 WHAT IS NECESSARY TO DO IN CASE

- The train doesn't start: it stopped for the lack of electricity:

Verify the electric feeding system by carefully checking the contacts ;

1. Verify whether the motor turns regularly in the sense of the arrow ;

2. Check that the thermal switch on the feeding cabinet is on the ON position (red colour); -

3. Check the electric contacts of the control keyboard.

- The sound effect is not perceived: check the fuses in the sound control box;

- The locomotive is not lit up: check the fuses of the feeding line;

- A part of the train is not lit up:

Check the electric connectors between the coaches;

-An anomalous raising of noise is perceived:

Stop the train and provide to perform a careful inspection of the driving system: chain, wheels, anti- derailing

system.

15 WARRANTY

G.R. Rondina srl warrants that the PRODUCTS are free from defects, in materials and in workmanship. The

warranty shall be valid for one year time from the date of delivery of the PRODUCTS.

Should be the PRODUCTS or a part thereof reveal any defects in materials and workmnship during the time of

validity of the warranty, G.R. Rondina srl shall offer the warranty customarily offered in Italy for goods similar to

the PRODUCTS.

Manufacturer obligation under this Article shall not apply to any PRODUCT, accessories and SPARE PARTS, or

part thereof, which is normally consumed in oèperation, or has a normal life inherently shorter than the warranty

period above, or is not properly stored, installed, used, maintened or repaired, is modified other than pursuant to

G.R. Rondina srl written or approval, or has been subject to any other kind of misure or detrimental exposure, or

as been sinsolved in a accident.It is further understood that, a part from replacement of SPARE PARTS as

indicated above, the supplier shall not be entitled to any right or claim to damages, a reimbursement the damage

of any kind, actual or eventual, to which supplier hereby renounces.
