A Message from the Principals This week is Messy Mud Week, and from the smiles and laughter that was happening today, I think that the students really enjoyed themselves. It is not often you can get dirty, and wallow in mud and not get into trouble. There are some parents that have asked if they can come to the school and take photos of their children, but as we have some students that cannot be photographed, we request that parents do not take photos during this time. Teachers will take some photos of the students engaging in Messy Mud Week. Please remember, besides drop off and pick up, all parents must come to the front office and get a visitors pass if they are on the school grounds. The safety of our students is our number one concern and as the school is so large, we unfortunately do not know all parents/ carers/grandparents by sight. As long as people have a visitors’ sticker on them then we know we can keep our students safe. Thank you for your understanding and for helping keep everyone safe. If your child is not returning to school next year, could you please contact the front office, so that we do not place the students into the class lists for 2018? Teachers and take a lot of time and effort in getting the right mix of students for each class, so if we know we do not have to place a student for 2018, it would be very helpful. Thank you for your assistance for this matter . There are a lot of end of year excursions, incursions, assemblies and events being held. Can parents and students please make sure they are aware of the forth coming weeks, and the events they are engaged in so that they are suitably equipped. Mrs Reid was very gracious on Monday morning, as we had an office full of students who had forgotten it was Messy Mud Week, and made phone calls to their parents to bring up the appropriate clothing. If you could help us with this we would be grateful. Could parents please make sure that they follow road rules whilst driving their children to school. Please do not do U Turns, out the front of the school, one of our students was nearly collected by a vehicle last week. As previously stated the safety of our students is our number one concern. Thank you for your assistance. We look forward to sharing all the events in the next couple of weeks with everyone. Have a great week, and enjoy the sunshine. Community News

Retina Australia WA – We’re making the future brighter for those with inherited retinal disease (IRD) Retina Australia WA’s will be holding their annual family fun day at Castledare Miniature Railway on

Sunday 19 November. This event is a fun filled day with lots of free activities for all to enjoy.

This event raises community awareness of IRD’s causing blindness, as well as much needed funds for

research that will enable treatment, prevention and cures of IRD such as Retinitis Pigmentosa – a leading

cause of childhood blindness worldwide

The Riverton RSL Children’s Christmas Party will be held on Sunday 10 December 11am – 2pm The Annual Riverton RSL Children’s Christmas Party is open to all Members and their children or

grandchildren. Father Christmas will be there and there’ll be lots of fun and so much more, plus light food

will be provided. If you would like to attend this free event, please put your name, contact telephone number

and how many children will be attending with you on the list at the bar at the Club or email Arthur Large as

soon as possible at [email protected]. Adult drinks will be available to be purchased at the bar on

the day. Please also bring along a small present for the children coming with you that has their name

clearly written on it so that Father Christmas can deliver it on the day.

Sun Safety With the hot weather approaching, it is important to talk to your children about sun safety and teach them

good sun protection habits.

Slip on some sun-protective clothing that covers as much skin as possible.

Slop on broad spectrum, water resistant SPF30+ sunscreen. Put it on 20 minutes before you go outdoors

and every two hours afterwards. Sunscreen should never be used to extend the time you spend in the sun.

Slap on a hat that protects your face, head, neck and ears.

Seek shade.

Slide on some sunglasses – make sure they meet Australian Standards.

Extra care should be taken between 10am and 3pm when UV levels reach their peak.

For more information see the Cancer Council website: www.cancer.org.au.
