Lean experience goes from extensive to almost no knowledge. Company size ranges from 10 to 4200 employees. Each member of the group is realizing remarkable progress and the group will continue in existence for three years. FCMA's goal is to create a series of Lean Consortiums with local mentors and coordinators. Consortiums will be established for both manufacturing and associate members. We want the next Consortium to begin formation in early 2005. - Workers Compensation Consortium: Claude Revels at JM Family/Southeast Toyota is pulling together a group of companies and healthcare providers to address workers comp medical costs. The goal is to have a group of pre-approved providers and companies using a negotiated rate schedule that will provide more responsive care at a lower cost. The group will operate under the FCMA banner. This can be a forerunner to control workers comp cost and show the effective use of group buying power. - Healthcare Workgroup: The first meeting of a group of FCMA members was held at Florida Rock on August 11 to discuss how to use best practices to reduce healthcare costs. The next meeting will focus on how to use known data to affect utilization, outcomes, and cost. As an example, there is an early non-invasive, inexpensive screen for colon cancer that is highly predictive. Unfortunately few physicians use this effective cost saving predictor. The goal is to increase the educational level of users and payers of the healthcare system as a way of controlling costs. - Large Energy Users: Major customers of JEA met nearly two years ago and most recently August 13. The goal is to determine how to mitigate utility cost increases through a close partnership with major utilities. These are specific ways that FCMA is working to help each company improve its bottom line. Look for us to continue these efforts. Our goal: bring you measurable value that makes you and your company more competitive globally.
