Way to GO TEAAM!

FROM YOUR PRESIDENTTed Rutherford

Greetings fellow American Airlines Ski and Snowboard Team

Greetings fellow American Airlines Ski and Snowboard TeamMembers.

As we sadly put away our sweaters, ski jackets and meltstorage wax on our skis and snowboards, it has been awonderful season that has flown by wAAy too fast. I amso thankful that we are all mostly healthy, and those of usthat have taken some spills and hits (“Brooklyn”, SteveAmoia, Are Johnsen, Mrs. Johnsen, Michael Peterson, and Laurie Garland) are on the mend and will be “uprounds” for next year!

Crested Butte did not disappoint, and we had a greatpresence at “The Last Great Colorado Ski Town”. We Five-Peated the NAASF and the Bob PowersCup! In both cases for this last season (2016/2017) we hadnearly double the points of the 2nd place teams. Welldone to all! This is due to the large presence and greatdepth of skiing and riding abilities of our skiers andboarders. I would like to thank our outgoing President: Kent “KJ”Johnson, whom has lead from the front for the last 2years! When I mean from the FRONT, he was the fastestoverall men’s racer for the season 2016/2017 in which hewas presented with the 1st memorial Chuck Wagner trophy. Thanks KJ for your leadership and great example to the rest of

us mortals.

K.J. and his usual motorcycle gang.

Gracias Nathan Green for stepping up as our new Vice President;(See Below!) I look forward to working with you as we continue to growour wonderful club. I would like to also thank our outgoingSecretary/Treasurer, Denise Connell for her hard work in keeping ourski/snowboard club so financially squared away; we all owe you agreat debt of gratitude.

KJ and Denise keeping us "Financially squared away"!

Greg Gilger is taking over as the new Sec/Tres; thank yousir for stepping up.

Aloha to our B-Team Captain, Laurie Hanson whom hasserved for the last several years. Laurie, thanks forkeeping all us “Killer B’s” in line!

Laurie, Jana, and Doug at the Teaam Dinner.

Thanks also to our Uniform Coordinator, James“ChickenHead” Tullos! Jim has seen our team throughnew jackets, new team hockey jerseys, and many otherfashion accessories over the last several years; Jim will

continue to be our Social Director and Master ofCeremonies Czar.

Jim Hersey is the new Uniform Coordinator. This year has been really great because of all ofyou who volunteer your time and effort to this club: MikeWilliams, A-Team Captain; Rick Schreiner, Newsletter

Editor; Eric Bergman, Snowboard Captain; EarlWeintraub, Webmaster; and all of our room moms thislast year: Tullos, Mikey Williams, Toma, and Jana.

By the way congrats to Tamara “Toma” Sysa forreceiving the 2017 American Spirit Tuck Keleher

Award!

(I didn't have the heart to crop Dean out of the picture! Ed.)

A special thanks to Bonnie Long, whom selflessly postedthe race results at the bottom of the hill at Crested Butte.

My goals for this coming year are to: continue to grow ourteam, obtain some AAL cooperate

recognition/sponsorship, and most importantly, bring backsome of our beloved team members like Carmen and

Bjorn…

As we used to write in our SoCal high school annuals: “Have A Bitchin’ Summer!

Very Respectfully, Ted Rutherford

FROM YOUR VicePRESIDENTNathan Green

Hello fellow AA Boarders and Skiers,

For the past years I have just "shown up" and have enjoyed the eventsof the ski weeks. December training at Steamboat, dinners, racing, theme night parties (outside my box), apres ski, the roast, tree skiingwith Julie, and my favorite, the many friendships that have beenmade. It takes coordination, organization, and a lot of effort to makethese fantastic trips available... So now, I guess it's my turn to pull onthe rope.

When Ted asked me if I would be willing to volunteer, it was totallyunexpected and I was truly surprised. I want to express my humblegratitude to Ted Rutherford and others who nominated me to becomeyour 2017/2018 Vice President. I will do my best to meet the highstandards that have been set by previous officers.

standards that have been set by previous officers.

Already, I have heard great ideas/suggestions from some of you, andwe will try to implement them next season. If you think of somethingthat we could do better, please feel free to contact me. The more inputwe have from YOU, the better this experience will be.

We had a blast this year... the snow was great everywhere, and amlooking forward to next year.

Here is a video that highlights our spectacularseason. Please use it as a digital invitation to your fellow coworker's, family, and friends. And, let them know they are invited and welcome to joinus at any of the weeks next year.

Everyone have a safe adventuresome Summer... stay cool andwe'll see you in December at "The Boat"!!

Nathan

FROM YOUR "A" Team CaptainMike Williams

Wow, we smoked them again for the fifth straight year!!!!

We won both cups and it took everyone's effort to make this happen. In the men's "A", KJ took the overall first place followed by Raybo infifth and John Mertes in ninth, outstanding! But to look at how we won the Bob Powers cup you have to look at ourdynamite women racers. The men hold there own but our womensmoke the other "A" women skiers. Louise, Danielle, Rachel, Denise,Jan, Na, Kathy and others pave the way to victory. For the overall cup the "B" men and women were outstanding. The Ateam is welcoming Craig and Greg who pointed out of the "B"s atCrested Butte.

Crested Butte.

The other airlines are going to try and knock us off the pinnacle but ifwe keep showing up with our numbers it will be hard to overtake ourteam.

Don't forget to put wax on your skis before you put the boards away, also there are numerous race camps at Mt. Rose and Mammoth. Getin touch with me if you are interested. These camps run until theFourth of July. Then Mt Hood has skiing all summer and in September Chile hassome camps.

Have a great summer and see ya next year!

Mike Williams

FROM YOUR (Retiring) "B" Team CaptainLaurie Hanson

Hey B racers, after several years as your B Team CaptainI'm going to be retiring.

Vulcans Julie Molano and Bill Boone with the Intergalactic Laurie Hanson.

We had a great group of B racers this season with newcomers at nearly every ski week and many now on thecusp of pointing out to the A's! (You know who you are!)(Some have whispered that they'd prefer to stay in theB's...) Woo Hoo Go Killer B's!!!Thanks to John Stockhausen we have a great new programto help seed the racers, based on their FST points, takingthe guess work out of things for the B Team Captain. Thisprogram also computes results based on race timesimputed at the ski weeks. This generally goes smoothly, but as it's relatively new there were a few glitches. Thanks for understanding. Luckily we havegreat technical directors (TD's). Steve Pozsonyi is the BTeam TD. He worked hard to keep it all straight. ThanksSteve!!

We didn't disappoint in Crested Butte...and oh what greatsnow!! ❄❄❄❄❄❄ Between the Team dinner at TheSlogar ,(thanks Jana), the Bitch Party, the StarTrek/StarWars Party, and the Roast we managed to get someracing in!! FROM YOUR SnowboardCaptainEric Bergman

Hey there, fellow riders! Hope everybody enjoyed our 3 meetsthis year. Combined men's & women's AA riders scored 386team points this year! The team gets points from the top 3 AAfinishers every race, and sometimes we only have 1 or 2women's riders; that means we have to recruit more! Talk upthe team and next year's meets to your co-workers and getthem motivated to join us. And bring all your friends andrelatives, as all dependents are welcome and they can alwaysrace against you for bragging rights! The more skiiers andriders we bring to NAASF meets, the better deals and ski area

riders we bring to NAASF meets, the better deals and ski areaselections we will have in the future. Enjoy your summers allover the US, and look forward to next year on the snow.

Erik

FROM YOUR Uniform Co-OrdinatorJim Hershey

This Summer, we say good bye to old Jim, and say "Hello" tonew Jim. As "Chickenman" Jim turns over the uniform duties to JimHershey, we say thank you for all you have done. To the new Jim wesay thank you for stepping up. I have spoken to Jim and to Jim, andthey are working diligently on the transition. Jim has promised me hewill try hard to keep us looking good. I don't know about you, but I'mgetting confused, so let's just say good luck to both Jim's. (Ed.)

FROM YOUR SocialChairman (Chairbird?)Jim Tullos

(This is not a new position for Jim, it just means he can run all theSocial Events without shlepping all the Uniform boxes. He would haveput in an input, but he is probably already Scuba Diving somewhere. Ed.)
