Annual Report

Introduction Established in 2005, the college is one the renownedCollege of Education affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh. It is run by the Shukdeva Krishna Educational Trust and Management Society. The College runs regular full time one year B.Ed. course of P.U. Chandigarhas well as two year E.T.T. course of S.C.E.R.T. Mohali.

Our college envisages achieving excellence in every endeavor in the field of education.Our college strives to produce global quality teachers equipped with competence and zeal to come up at National as well as International standards.To achieve this aim,we try to excel not only in academic but in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities including social service,socially useful productive works,personality and leadership development programmes.It emphasizes upon women empowerment and technology enabled teaching learning. It has organizesprogrammes and activities to foster human rights and dignity of individuals.We also provide opportunities and incentives to our teachers for their self-realization as well as self-actualization.Quality and relevance are the keywords of our performance.This report a brief account of some the activities organized during the session 2013-2014,reflecting the development of both the students and members of the faculty.

Session 2013-14 commenced on 17July, 2013. Dr. Ashok Garga(Chairman) was the chief guest of the occasion. He welcomed the students and blessed them from the core of his heart. Followings activities were conducted during Inaugural session:

Hawan

Our new session of B.Ed. (2013-14) commenced with the Hawan on 22nd

July, 2013.The chairman Dr. Ashok Garga, Director Mr. SudhirGarga, Gen. Secretary Dr.(Mrs.) NeenaGarga, Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Sharma and Dr. K.D. Sharma graced the auspicious occasion with their presence. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Sharma warmly welcomed the students and said that teachers are builders of nation so they must be trained adequately. After Hawan sweets were distributed among students and were wished good luck for their successful session ahead.

Orientation Programme

Our college organized two day orientation programme for students of B.Ed. Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Sharma(Principal) along with senior faculty members briefed the students about:-

University Results B.Ed. Examination 2013-14 results has been outstanding as our students bagged 110 meritpositions.Amongthese were our 3 students who not only ranked high in Merit list but also remained top 3 position holders in Moga district.

Ruby Rani not only topped Moga District but also got 3rd position in Panjab University merit list by scoring 84.18%,followed by Rajdeep Kaur scoring 84.09%.Also,Navpreet Kaur scored 83.45% marks.The result of B.Ed. has been 100%.The overall results were as:

Tribute to Patron

On the remembrance of Late Sh. Shukdeva Krishna Garga,homage was paid to the patron in the college campus on 23rd July,2013.Our Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Sharma acquainted the students with the life and achievements of Late Sh. Shukhdev Krishna Garga.To pay tribute to the great patriot,Dr. Ashok Garga(Chairman),Mr. SudhirGarga(Director),Dr.(Mrs.) NeenaGarga,Sh. RavinderGarga and Mrs. SarojGarga were present. On this day staff as well as students also paid whole hearted homage to the Holy Spirit.

Presentation of Wall Magazines Our students prepared wall magazines according to their houses on given topics and displayed on the flannel board under the guidance of house In charges along with fine art teacher.

Tree plantation Keeping into consideration the environmental degradation a tree was planted in the college premises. Dr. Ashok Garga(Chairman) and Dr. (Mrs.) SudhaSharma(Principal) did the divine job of planting the tree. On this day,OurChairman motivated the students to remain eco-friendly.He also inspired staff members and students to plant at least one tree every year.

Poster making competition

To enlighten the students about the social evils a poster making competition was organized in college campus on 14th Aug, 2013.All students participated with great enthusiasm. The theme of Poster was “SAVE ENVIRONMENT” and “FEMALE –FOETICIDE”.

Celebration of Important Days

Teej Celebration

Keeping into consideration the all round development of the children,Teej festival was organized in the college campus on 12th August,2013.The function was graced by the presence of Dr. Ashok Garga(Chairman) along with Principal Dr. (Mrs.) SudhaSharma.Our students participated in various items like folk dance,folksongs,debate,Gidha etc. Our Principal acquainted the students with the importance of Teejfestival.AMehndi competition was also organized on Teej celebration.

Teacher’s day

Teacher’s day was celebrated on 5th September, 2013 to mark the birth anniversary of Sarvpalli Dr. Radhakrishnan.On this day, ourstudentsThe Literary Club of the college organized the Teachers’ day celebration which marks the birthday of the great teacher Dr. S. Radha Krishnan. On this occasion, different items like choreography, poems and speeches were presented by the students of B.Ed. and E.T.T. An oath was taken by all the students of the college to become professionally committed, earnest and accountable teachers. Dr.AshokGarga (Chairman) was the Chief Guest of the day. The Chief Guest stimulated the students to become efficient teachers and be sensitive towards the needs of the society.

Hindi Diwas

On 14th Sept,2013 Hindi Diwas was celebrated in the college campus.Our students delivered the speech to highlight the importance of Hindi Diwas.Various students expressed their views on our national language Hindi and how we can uplift its status.Poems were also recited by the students.

Birthday celebration of S. Bhagat Singh

Birthday of great patriot “SardarBhagat Singh” was celebrated in the college campus on 28th Sept,2013.One of the B.Ed. students introduced the audience with life of S.Bhagat Singh and his remarkable deeds.Students organized cultural items and various poems. Group items were performed by the students.All B.Ed. and staff members paid tribute to the great patriot.

Punjabi Diwas

Punjabi Diwas was celebrated on 19th Nov,2013. Dr. Ashok Garga (Chairman) was the chief guest. A cultural progarmme was organized by B.Ed. students during which individual dance, group dance were performed.One of the studentsenlightend upon the importance of mother tongue-Punjabi language.

Children Day On the eve PanditJawaharLal Nehru’s Birthday, Children day was celebrated on 14th Nov,2013 under the guidance of their teacher-in-charge in their respective teaching practice schools.A number of competitions like fancy dress ,drawing competition, essaycompetition, recreational games and other cultural programmes were organized .Pupil teachers gave prizes to position holders.To encourage all participants,sweets were distributed among all the students.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Birthday

To acquaint the students with the concept of multicultural education, Birthday of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s was celebrated in college campus by B.Ed.AndE.T.T. students. Our students presented Shabad, Bhajan,Kavishri and Vaar and also deliberated upon the ideals governed by Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Lohri Celebration

Festival of Lohri marks the end of winter and arrival of spring. Lohri was celebrated in the college campus on 13th Feb, 2013. Cultural function was organized by students of B.Ed. and E.T.T.Various activities were performed like singing, dancing, theatrical items as well as literary items were performed with great enthusiasm and zeal.

Women’s DayCelebration

To highlight the status of Indian woman in present scenario, an essay competition was organized in college campus on 8th March, 2014. B.Ed. and E.T.T. students participated in the competition with great zeal and enthusiasm.

Participation in Inter-College Competitions

Participationin Inter college competitions provides prospective teachers an opportunity to explore and develop their talents, feel confident and remainstrengthened. These activities are important for pupil teachers to get an exposure and inculcate competitive spirit as well as build up emotional and mental abilities. We encourage our students to participate in inter college competitions in various colleges. Our students participated in the following inter college competitions-

There was an Inter college competition at LalaLajpatRai Institute of Education, Dhudike (Moga) ,on 28thJan, 2014.Our students participated in different categories like Poem recitation, Declamation and Patriotic song competition. Amandeep Kaur bagged first prize in patriotic song and Rajdeep Kaur won in Consolation prize in Declamation.

In the Intercollege competition organized in Satyam College of Education, Moga On 13th Feb 2014,one of our faculty members Ms. Ramanpreet Kaur participated in paper presentation through MS Powerpoint and won first prize. The participation in all the categories by students of our college is appreciable and college won'Over All Trophy’ there. List of Prizes won by participants have been listed below:

P.U. Inter-Zonal Youth and Heritage FestivalPanjab University Inter-Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival was held in A.S. College, Khanna on 24th Oct,2013.Selected students participated in respective categories of Inter-Zonal festival like Poster making, Collage making and On the spot photography. The students participated with great zeal and enthusiasm.

Events organized in the collegeDuring the 2013-14 Session various events were organized in the college for both the students and members of faculty. These events were organized to boost the confidence of students and allow them to explore new vistas in life.The following events were organized in the college during the session 2013-14

Talent Hunt Programme

Talent hunt competition was organized in the college campus on 9th Sept, 2013 with great enthusiasm. The major aim to organize the function was to explore the hidden talent of the students. Our Chairman Dr. Ashok Garga,Dr. K.D. Sharma graced the auspicious occasion with their presence. On this occasion, various competitions like Solo dance, group dance, Folk dance, Poem recitation, fine arts items, literary items and Heritage items were organized. Winners were selected for participating in Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival.

Inter House Competitions

Inter House competitions were organized in the college campus on the eve of Diwali. Various competitions were organized like Diya Making,CandleMaking and Card Making .Judgment was made by Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Sharma..

Inter House Competition (Kho-Kho)Inter House competition was organized in college campus on 25th Feb,2014. Chief Guestof the function was Dr. Ashok Garga(Chairman).Students represented five Houses,namely Kasturba House,RaniLaxmi Bai House,Sarojani Naidu House,Kalpana Chawla House, Mother Teresa House and Indira Gandhi House.

Trophy of InterHouse (Kho-Kho )competition was bagged by second house i.e. Rani Laxmi Bai House.

Visit to Old Age home

About 100 students of Shukdeva Krishna College of Education for Girls,Moga visited old age home named “OLD AGE HOME ,CHANDPURANA”. The old age occupants felt very happy to interact with students.The old people narrated their life stories and experiences of life to students.The teachers and students presented fruits and sweets to the old people.

Campaign on Social evils

Students of our college took initiative to carryout the campaign to eradicate evils from society like dowry system,female-feticide,save natural resources etc. Students of B.Ed. and E.T.T. enthusiastically carried on the rally making the people aware about importance of the environment. Itproved as a great success as many citizens also joined them and took a pledge to eradicate all these social evils prevailing in the society.

Personal Counselling

To solve various personal problems of B.Ed. and E.T.T. students a personal counseling programme was organized in college campus. Counselling was provided by Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Sharma (Principal),Mrs. NavjotKaur,Mrs. NeetuArora,Mrs. Ravinder Kaur.

Various problems of student’s areas etc. were solved by experts and able guidance was provided by them.

Annual Athletic Meet

9th annual Athletic meet was held in college campus on 3rd and 4th March, 2014.Variouscompetitions like racing(100m,200m,400m relay),shot put,Discusthrow,Long jump,Javelin throw were held in the college campus.Recreational games like spoon race, obstacle race and Tug of war were also organized to motivate the students during the two days of Athletic meet.These competitions were according to Houses.

By pocketing 27 points Ms. Kulwinder Kaur a students of B.Ed. was adjudged the best athlete and Ms. SarabjitKaur as a best player.The second house adjudged the best house and tug of war was won by fourth house.

The chief guest of the function was Dr. Satish Goyal and of the prize distribution ceremony was Dr.(Mrs.) NeenaGarga(Principal),S.D. College,Moga.Otherdignitaries present on the closing ceremony were Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Sharma and Dr. K.D. Sharma.

Vocational Counselling

In order to acquaint students with differentoccupations of their choice, a vocational counseling programme was organized at college campus by Mr. Dinesh Kumar of ALERT, Gurgaon.

The major purpose of Vocational Counseling was to assist students to choose right occupation and to aware them of the eligibility condition. It was organized with the aim to help them enter in occupation as well as how they can achieve success in that. Our students participated in this counseling session with great enthusiasm.

Workshops

During the session 2013-14, two workshops were organized in the college. All the workshops concentrated on different themes like teaching aid preparation and communication skills.

A workshop on teaching aid preparation of various teaching subjects was organized in college campus in 27th Jan, 2014.Students of B.Ed. and E.T.T. mad 3-dimensional.Their art of work was quite appreciable.Judgement was made by Mrs. Ravinder Kaur and Mrs. RamanpreetKaur(Asstt. Prof. in Tg. Of S.St. and Tg. of English).First prize was bagged by Ms. Rajdeep Kaur in Teaching of Mathematics, Second prize was by Ms. Ruby Rani in Teaching of English and Third was won by Ms. Sukhmeet Kaur in Teaching of Science.

Afterwards Dr. (Mrs.) SudhaSharma (Principal) awarded prizes to winners and motivated students to use various teaching aids while teaching to make teaching learning process effective.

A workshop on communication skills was held in college campus by ALERT, Gurgaon on 11th Feb,2014.All B.Ed. Students participated in workshop which helped the students to learn the tips to face the interview. The students were acquainted with the effective way to write resume, how to face interview etc. Mr. DineshKumar also made students aware about “What is e-learning?” and how to use it to make teaching learning process effective. At the end ,Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Sharma (Principal) awarded students with appreciation certificate.

Extension Lectures

Extension Lectures on different topics were organized in the college for students-

Dr. AnupamBansal,Civil Hospital Mogadelivered a Lecture on “Health Education for Adolescents in College campus on 10th December,2013.She acquainted students with the hygiene of their body and changes in them. She emphasized that students must be aware with all health problems, so thatthey can cure diseases by themselves.

An Extension Lecture was organized at college campus on 11th December,2013.The topic of the lecture was “Value Education”, which was delivered byDr. Rameshwar Singh,(counsellor)Civil Hospital,Ferozepur.He discussed that now-a-days there is eradication of values among us. As result all social evils like corruption, femalefoeticide,dowry system etc. are prevailing.So,we all should step forward to overcome the evils and lead a healthy life. We should adopt a motto that “Live and Let Live”.

An extension Lecture was organized in college campus by Prof VarinderMakkar,senior Lecturer in Govt. BarjindraCollege,Faridkot on 15thFeb,2014.She explained the symptoms of cancer mainly uterus cancer and bloodcancer. She acquainted students about the preventive measures of these highly prevailing diseases among women and treatment of these types of cancer. Studentslistened them carefully and satisfied their learning curiosity by asking questions.

S. Gurdev Singh Dhaliwal ,(General Secretary)VishavGurmatParchar Sabha and Dashmesh Canadian Sikh Society delivered an Extension

lecture on On 26th Feb,2014.He emphasized on eradication of social evils like dowry system, Female foeticide,Drug addiction etc. from the society. The lecture by the esteemed personality inspired the students to set up goals for their future and then work progressively to achieve them. Along with this, he also acquainted students with the Sikh history.

Faculty development Programme

“A lamp can never lighten another lamp unless it burns itself”RabinderNathTagore. With this goal in mind, we encourage our zealous teacher to keep learning and growing. They delivered lectures and participated in many Seminars to expand their vitas.

Professional Growth by the Faculty Members

Mrs. Navjot Kaur,(Asst. Prof. in Teaching of Economics) participated in various seminars:

N.S.S.CampTeacher acts as a liaison between an institution and community, so he is the best person to bring attitudinal changes in the society for the progress of nation .Our future teachers were also trained to serve the society during the 7days N.S.S. camp from 15th December,2013 to 21st December,2013.50 students had joined the camp. Inaugural function of N.S.S.

During the inaugural function of N.S.S. camp on 15th Dec, 2013,Dr. Ashok Garga(Chairman) motivated the students to serve the society whole-heartedly. Afterward camp was marked by tree plantation and rally on ‘save environment’. Trees were planted by Dr. Ashok Garga(Chairman),Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Sharma and Dr. K.D. Sharma in the presence of NSS volunteers and teachers –in-charges i.e. Ms.Shikha and Ms. Kulwinder Kaur.

Extension Lectures organized during the NSS camp

Dr. K.D. Sharma, Retd. Principal,BabaFarid group of Institutions,Deon(Bathinda) delivered a lecture on ‘Environment preservation’ on 16th Dec,2013,wherein he informed about the depletion of species of trees in various jungles. He motivatedstudents to plant more trees, uselessvehicles, throw garbage in proper dustbins etc. He also inspired from student teachers to plant one tree every year on their birthday.

Activities of students during the NSS camp

During the NSS camp, students were engaged in the following activities:

In the NSS camp, students were divided into 5 groups. Each group had its own head. Ms. Shikha Sharma and Ms. Kulwinder Kaur gave instructions to the heads of the groups and allotted the area of the campus for cleanliness purpose.

Students were taken to Kashmiri-Park for amusement purpose. Various games were organized by teacher-in-charge. Refreshment of fruits wasprovided to the students.

Volunteers were taken to Gurdwara Sahib, Village Dhalle Ke in the morning session on 17th Dec,2013.They were taken there with the dual purpose i.e. cleanliness of Gurdwara Sahib and for the preparation of holy Langar.Langar was distributed among the devotees and students by NSS volunteers.

NSS volunteers were made to visit slum-area(Ghall Kalan and Dunne Ke) for cleanliness purpose. Students were divided into various groups. Areas were divided among these groups.

On 20th Dec,2013,cultural programme was organized by students. Various programmes were there like singing,Dancing,Poem-recitation,Debate,folk song and theatrical items. Chief guest of the programme was Dr. Ashok Garga(chairman),accompanied with Dr. (Mrs.) Sudha Sharma (Principal) and Dr. K.D. Sharma.

In order to acquaint with the historical aspect, the NSS volunteers were taken to the various places on 21st Dec, 2013.The students were taken to the National Museum at the Ferozepur City. After visiting the museum students were moved to the Gurdwara Datan Sahib,Wazidpur(Ferozepur).Then they were taken to the border where they were provided with the informationregarding Line of Control.The NSS volunteers themselves prepared the lunch and served the same during the stay in the camp.

On the last day, one day trip to Amritsar was organized to show the different places like Golden Temple,JallianWala Bagh,Durgiana Mandir and Wagha Border to acquaint with the historical aspect.

Computer Coaching Classes for Rural students

As an initiative to spread computer literacy among students of rural area. Computer classes were taken .Students of nearby rural area were given 30 days classes in which they were taught about the basis of computer. In the computer class, students were acquainted with the MS Word, MSPowerPoint,so that they can keep themself-abreast with the technology. Thein-charge of computer classes was Ms. Sarabjit Kaur who conducted their classes effectively.

National Seminar

A two day National Seminar was organized at college campus on 13-14 December, 2013.It was sponsored by College Development Council,Panjab University, Chandigarh.The theme of the seminar was,

Panjab university Zonal Skill in Teaching and Teaching Aid Preparation competition was on 6th-8th Feb, 2014.The competition was organized by different colleges. The competition of Science and Mathematics was held in D.M. College, Moga. Competition of Teaching of Hindi, Punjabi, English and Economics was held in Surjeet Memorial College of Education, Ferozepur, Competition of Teaching of S.St., Pol. Sci., History was held in S.D.S. College of Education Lopon. Our 14 B.Ed. students participated in these different teaching subjects.

Alumni Association, decided to honour five students from Alumni on the basis of their active participation in college activities.

Guidance and Placement Cell

The Placement Cell of our college has been playing a vital role by accommodating our students in various educational institutions( Both campus and off campus)interview were organized by our placement cell regularly in various reputed institutions based on their skills. Our students were guided time to time to in order to solve their educational, vocational and personal problems.

The Faculty Exchange Programme

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell organized the Faculty Exchange Programme on 8th December, 2012 in which Ms. Amandeep Kaur and Ms.Mandeep Kaur, Assistant Professors, Baba Mangal Singh College of Education, Moga delivered lectures on the theme, “ Theories of Learning (Trial and Error )” and “Bloom Texonomy”. The programme was highly valuable for the students. Principal Dr. Sudha Sharma,Chairperson, IQAC greeted the guests and articulated that these programmes are essential for the exchange of ideas and enhancement of quality. Efforts will be made to organize such programmes in the prospect also.

Grievance and redressal cell

The formation of students Grievance cell is to promote and maintain a conducive and unprejudiced educational environment for the students. Students can also express their grievance by dropping their written grievance in the complaint box. The grievance are heard and solved at regular intervals.

To provide a wide range of opportunities and to enable the students to acquaint with current knowledge, students were provided with two computers with internet facility in the library. To provide variety of learning opportunities ample books have been made available in the library. So the library is updated time to time. About 340 books were added to the existing collection ofLibrary. Apart from these 90 titles were added in this year..

Job Fair

Keeping into consideration the importance of placing students into the suitable job areas, a job fair was conducted in the college campus on 12th May,2014 in which various prestigious institutions participated. Many of our students got placement under the suitable guidance of Placement cell.

Several students actively participated in the interview conducted by these schools and in which 15 students got selected by the school experts in their institute.

Educational Tour

A four day educational tour was organized for B.Ed. and E.T.T. students from 17th May to 20th may, 2014. Our 63 B.Ed. and 13 E.T.T. students were taken to Chandigarh and Shimla with teachers in charge, Ms. Shikha Sharma.Other staff members Ms. Ravneet Kaur, Ms. Pardeep Kaur and Ms. Navneet Kaur also accompanied them.

In Chandigarh students visited Museum, Rose Garden, Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake etc. Then they were taken to chail and visited cricket ground as well as various temples. At Shimla, they have visited Jakhu temple and Mall road. Their journey ended with short visit of Kufri. Students enjoyed a lot and took benefit of historical places for educational purpose.

Internship Programme

Internship programme of teaching practice is an essential component of the B.Ed program. Students are sent to various standard schools as a part of their curriculum to gain teaching practice. Our student teachers had undergone this practice in 10 High/Higher Secondary Schools in Moga and near places for a continuous period of forty working days. They did their practice teaching to the utmost satisfaction of the concerned authorities.

Welfare Scheme

The college offers many welfare schemes for the staff and students such as scholarship, book bank, question bank etc. The poor and bright students are helped morally and by providing books for the whole session. Management takes care of the financial interest of students and staff of the college. Students are also provided academic support by providing classes to the academically weak students

ADIEU-Party

An Adieu party was organized byB.Ed. Students in college campus on 14thMay, 2014.Chief guest of the programme was Dr. Neena Garga (Gen. Secretary) Principal, S.D. college for Women, Moga .The programmeCommenced with chanting of holy Bhajan. Our students performed variety of items like Group-dance, Speech, Poem recitation, Mono-acting etc.Afterwards, Prize distribution was conducted to award teachers for their best performance during the year and students for their achievements in curricular as well as co-curricular activities.Lastly, the crown of Ms. Farewell of 2014 Shukdeva Krishna College was won by Ms. Sharanjeet Kaur.

Social Survey

Under the guidelines of in-charges of houses, Our students conducted a social survey to find out the problems of the slum areas. This social survey is a compulsory part of B.Ed. syllabus under P-I (Philosophical and Sociological Basis of Education). In this survey, our students collected the data of slum area related to their problems like health problems, sanitation problem, awareness about their rights and duties, women empowerment,

their voting pattern, awareness about vaccination programme etc.Our students helped the resides of that areas according to their willingness.

Visit to exceptional school

In order to maintain link with society,B.Ed students were taken to visit the school of Exceptional Children.Theyvisited 'VISTA' school for Exceptional Children. It was the compulsory paper in(V-b) Education for Children with special Needs. The students were visited that school to interact with exceptional children's i.e. physically handicapped, mentally retarded, deaf and dumb etc. and conducted a report on the Education, facilities and problems of thattype of children's. Our students were distributed sweets and fruits among these childrens.

Conclusion:

The growth and development of our institution largely depend on the caliber of its teaching and non-teaching staff. The staff identifies the talented students and brings their skills and efficiency to light. I thank them for their willing co-operation and faithful service. Our students have a major share in the success of our College. They bring laurels to the institution and win distinctions in Curricular,Co-curricular and Extra-curricular activities. I thank every one of them and wish them success in every walk of life express my heartfelt thanks to our Gen. Secretary Dr. Neena Garga (Principal, S.D.College) a dynamic personality who acts like an escalator uplifting the status of our College.

I thank our Chairman Dr. Ashok Garga,Director Mr. Sudhir Garga and Secretary Mr.Krishan Kumar Garga for constructing excellent new building with all facilities for our B.Ed. College. Words are not sufficient to express my heartfelt thanks to our Correspondent for all his encouragement and directions to lead our College to the path of progress.
