Heather Phillipson Sometimes described as a “British Poet”, Heather Phillipson is an artist from London who works in a large variety of mediums, often incorporated together in one artwork. The biography on heatherphillipson.co.uk aptly describes her work as “collisions”; collisions of different mediums, collisions of different perspectives juxtaposed together. An example of this juxtaposition is the film in which Heather Phillipson narrates images with poetry about kissing and eating, the two roles of the mouth. Her films are intercut with unexpected noises, and occasional pop references over background music, which is occasionally interrupted to make a point. The films, like the ‘objects/environments’ that she creates, are often abstract compilations of emojis, bright colours and different layers, moving across each other at different speeds. Often the films are incorporated into the surreal ‘environments’ in various screens or projections onto canvas, as in Sub- fusc love-feast. heatherphillipson.co.uk also provides an insight into Heather Phillipson’s process in her ‘collages’, which are created on the computer using emojis and photographs of items that she will eventually use in her ‘environments’. Her ‘sketches’ are also drawn on the computer, but always include texts, as titles, labels or insights, such as, “how it feels inside.’ As well as in her various visual art, her poems can be seen in various fabric-bound publications, or on glossy painter against model-esque woman. In the huge variety of Heather Phillipson’s portfolio, all her artwork has something in common. It is all very immersive, and very surreal. An example of this juxtaposition is the film in which Heather Phillipson narrates images with poetry about kissing and eating, the two roles of the mouth. Her films are intercut with unexpected noises, and occasional pop references over background music, which is occasionally interrupted to

make a point.

The films, like the ‘objects/environments’ that she creates, are often ab-stract compilations of emojis, bright colours and different layers, moving across each other at different speeds. Often the films are incorporated into the surreal ‘environments’ in various screens or projections onto can-vas, as in Sub-fusc love-feast.

heatherphillipson.co.uk also provides an insight into Heather Phillipson’s process in her ‘collages’, which are created on the computer using emojis and photographs of items that she will eventually use in her ‘environments’.
