Introducing Lancaster District CVS.

Lancaster District Community Voluntary Solutions (LDCVS) provides support for the voluntary and community sector in the Lancaster District. Our role is to help the voluntary sector to support local communities. LDCVS provides a range of support services for frontline voluntary and community groups to enable them to address management and development issues and to function more effectively within the changing operating environment. We aim to provide easy to access and seamless services to voluntary organisations and community groups providing both packages of support and responding to ad hoc information and support requests. We work to develop knowledge and skills in the voluntary and community sector and we also help individuals to take part in volunteering through our Volunteer Centre and Volunteer Training Academy.

Working in strategic partnership with voluntary, statutory, health and educational bodies within the county, LDCVS aims to develop a thriving independent voluntary and community sector that is a valued partner in the development of the District and its communities.

This post, partly funded by Lancashire County Council and Lancaster City Council, is delivered as part of the ONE Lancashire Countywide Infrastructure Support Programme. As part of our relationship with ONE Lancashire and Lancashire Association for Community Voluntary Solutions (LACVS), the post holder will complement our team by providing high quality support to VCFS partners in the ways outlined in the job description and specification.

Voluntary Sector Development worker

LDCVS is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic person with experience of providing one to one organisational development support and group training to voluntary and community sector organisations. You will have knowledge of community development work, partnership working, funding sources and a track record of being successful with raising funds for charities.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a robust understanding of charity governance and broad knowledge of issues affecting the voluntary and community sector. You will use your skills and experience to support the development of a diverse range of organisations and work in partnership with others to forge a strong and vibrant voluntary and community sector in the Lancaster District.

Lancaster District Community Voluntary Solutions is an independent charity bringing local voluntary organisations and community groups together in a strong, inclusive and supportive network. It offers professional advice, information and support and facilitates the sharing of news, knowledge and ideas across the Districts voluntary and community network.

Job Description and Person Specification

The job description outlines the duties and responsibilities of the post. The Person Specification describes the range of skills, knowledge, experience, knowledge required of the post holder. The essential criteria are the minimum requirements that you will need in order to carry out the role effectively. The desirable criteria will aid the post holder to undertake the full duties and responsibilities of the post more quickly, but are not essential at the appointment stage. However, where there is a large number of candidates for a vacancy, desirable criteria may assist the short-listing process. Job Description

Job Title: Voluntary Sector Development worker. Responsible to: Chief Executive Salary Band: NJC scale 26 £23,166 per year - going up to £23,398 from 1st April 17Hours per week: 35 hours per week. Starting Date: Monday 3rd April 2017 End Date: December 2018.

Main Responsibilities:

Respond to requests for support from VCSE organisations. Be proactive in alerting VCSE organisations to development opportunities. Directly supervise CVS staff and volunteers. Provide 1:1 consultancy to individual organisations on key issues e.g. quality standards,

development/business planning, governance etc. Develop appropriate open and bespoke training programmes. Develop initiatives that help improves the health and wellbeing of residents in partnership with the

local Clinical Commissioning Group, local authorities, business and the VCSE sector. Bring VCSE organisations together through the North Lancashire Voluntary sector Consortium,

Morecambe Interagency Group and other partnerships meetings. Work in partnership with other organisations and individuals to address gaps in services and meet

local needs. Support new and smaller organisations that address local need. Provide support to organisations engaging in social enterprise activity. Provide support for VCSE organisations to access funds and resources. Help provide the monthly email bulletin and information sheets. Create and support an action network for Lancaster District to provide VCF leadership within the

health economy. Focus on implementing the asset based community development approach working with

communities at the neighbourhood and local levels to mobilise local residents and community groups to develop community solutions to meet local priorities within their local area.

Support LDCVS volunteer team on mobilising volunteering for Volunteering Involving Organisations to provide much needed community provision across the district and on utilising the power of volunteering to help unemployed and economically inactive residents to be active, build their confidence and self-esteem and make progress in terms of their employability skills and improving their health and well-being.

Attending training and other duties appropriate for the role.

Other Information: This post is funded is funded until December 2018 and continues subject to funding secured. A 5% contribution will be paid by LDCVS to an approved pension provider. 25 day’s annual leave plus public holidays. All employees are expected to comply with statutory requirements and all LDCVS policies while

undertaking their work. This post is one of continual development and the post holder will be encouraged to develop skills and capabilities, including participation in projects and training events. Accordingly, the range of duties and responsibilities outlined above may change from time to time to reflect the changing needs of LDCVS.

Overall performance will be formally assessed and reviewed regularly, with additional informal assessment taking place as necessary.
