Editor’s Note.

Hi everyone.

Well its been another busy month for the club. Busy getting the club’s name out there, advertising in The Guardian for the Junior Development day, and then getting organized for the event too. Was

great to see a couple of juniors come along and test out their driving skills. See Chris’s report further down in the newsletter to find out

how then did.

This is my last newsletter. I have hung up my Editors cap and have handed it over to Rob Goff. For those who can’t put a face to the name….. How about a car to the name.

Thank you to all those who have assisted me with contributions to the newsletters and thank you to all those who have given me such positive feedback over the time. Please continue to support Rob and keep your contributions coming in.

There is lots of information in this month’s publication. Please read the section on the various classes. Thanks Chris for the in-depth information.

I will still be out and about around the track with the camera though!!!

Once again, thank you everyone for your help over my time.

Lyn Andrew.

Race Report June 14 th 2015 Could the day have got any better? Nice light breeze to clear the dust, clear sky and sunshine unreal.

It was the second junior development day we have had this year and we have been holding them in conjunction with test and tune days. They have been quite successful, a big thanks you to C.A.M.S. for a grant to hold them. They did give us $750 to help us with these and we basically used it to run the ads in the newspaper the Friday before each day. Swan Hill Rural City Council also gave a grant of $200 to help out and it was fully appreciated being used to help us cater for the extra people. Thank you to both C.A.M.S. and Swan Hill Rural City Council it made all the difference.

Once again we used a tight little track in the front carpark, housed in cones to teach some driving skills to the juniors and once again they loved and it did its job.

To look at it seemed easy but to drive was another story. All 3 gave this track a good workout and found that it did set them up well with respect to car control and all 3 made it

on to the main track with great results. Well done Nat, Daniel and Steve you all did a great job and hope you had a great day and you will all be back soon.

There was a great field of entries with some 22 drivers and they all seemed to have a great day from the getting around I did. The club recovery vehicle remained in the pits all day, that in itself speaks volumes and is a great testament to the batters being curved by Rodney again. Well done Rodney love your work.

But we came out for some driving and drive we did. Ted Paynter did a great job of keeping a full que flowing all day with many runs had by I all I think. Some saying they were looking forward to relax on the couch when they got home as they were buggered but had a great smile on their faces.

There were some water leaks, gearbox problems, a suspected broken axle (locked diff) but all in all a pretty good day for the cars and the times where quick with many people getting down below the 1.15 mark. Mr Dust (Adam Smith) had fitted a steering quickener and he was extremely happy with the result and had a good day. Barry Middleton also had

a good day, having replaced a faulty cam sensor and did manage to break the 1.20 barrier well done Bazz. Likewise Rob Goff was a man with a plan before retiring the ute ( his daily drive I might add) and going to another car, he wanted to break the 1.20 barrier and he did. Well done Rob, can’t wait to see the new car. It was also great to see Marty Stap out for a go. He is unreal to watch and it was Marty that thinks he has broken an axle bummer. Kelvin Jobling was also having a great day and he looked really tidy all day and quick. Well done Jobbo.

What a welcome to the club for Colin Plumridge. In Ehlana Gibson Lancer he took 1 in class D and was second overall. Very quick all day and had a great time. Well done Col and welcome to the club.

Tyson Buckley has been hard at it working on his car and if you managed a look inside you could see some major changers had taken place. It looks very neat and functional. He topped a good sized field of 7 Juniors, yes you read that right, 7 Juniors well done Tyson.

Likewise Jacob Milnes came out with his well-prepared Nissan Skyline which has also had some work done and not only looked great but went quite well taking second class J.

Kelsey Trotter has continued her move forward in time as well with almost 8 seconds off her last outing well done

To all the juniors you did very well with all showing good improvements though out the day and great displays of driving and common sense.

Rodney Stephenson also had a good Birthday with 1st in class P well done and happy birthday.

We also saw the slowest time every recorded out there. It was over 3 minutes but did win it class as there were no other busses entered for the day…… joking there…. but we did take our newly acquired Zoo bus around the track with anybody that wanted to go for a slow

viewing lap. It did give the chance for the kids and spectators to see the track and we even had commentary on the way round with many people saying thank you as they got off they really enjoyed the opportunity.

Again at the end of the day to have so many people help pack it all up was just fantastic and gratefully appreciated.

Tips and TricksTyres ……….. do make a difference ?

Simple answer yes.

From a safety aspect tubes are a good thing. Cost about $100 to have 4 fitted and could save your day. If you have a good look at the Photos from the day you may see your car leaning heavily around a bend

www.SwanHillSportingCarClub.com.au

Page 8:  · Web viewMitsubishi Lancer Silver 7 18 Colin O'Brien SHSCC E Holden Commodore VN Red 5 19 Aaron Daniel SHSCC P Holden Commodore Red 3 20 Nathaniel Adamson SHSCC J Mitsubishi Sigma

and the tyres are rolling under the rim at that point. It is also letting dirt into the bead and when it straights back up the tyres have a slow leak. Flat tyres led to incidents and loss of confidence so tubes are a cheap upgrade.

Next would be pressures. The higher the pressure the more slippy the car will handle. We do have an air compressor in the pit area so do not be afraid to experiment with them. But for most do not go below 20 unless you really know what you are doing.

Depending on your preference you may have more in one end than the other. Me I seem to like the feel around 22 pounds but I do have tubes and can only recommend them.

Type of tyres could go on for days so that’s it for now.

CLASSES

I have noticed there are all sorts of ideas as to what class is what. This month the classes where way off on at least 30% of the field.

In simple terms if it just came off the rood it is class P

If you have done anything to it and the engine is below 1600 or 1.6 L it is class C

If you have done anything to it and the engine is above 1600 or 1.6 L but under 2000 or 2 l it is class D

If you have done anything to it and the engine is above 2000 or 2l it is class E

If you are aged from 14 to 18 as of Jan the current year you are in class J regardless of the car you are driving.

L Ladies also regardless of car.

If you are I the next 2 you most likely know why.S Specials (Custom built cars and excessively modified sedans)

W Production Based 4WD or AWD (no tyre restrictions apply)

Licence Structure and Pathway

The Licensing and Accreditation Guide is a reference guide for new and current CAMS Accredited Officials containing information on the National Officiating Program; licence application, upgrade and maintenance; training and development; policies and procedures. Click the link below to download:

Licensing and Accreditation Guide 2013-2014 (pdf)

The CAMS Accredited Official licensing structure has two parts: Graded Officials Licences and Non Graded Officials Licences.

Graded Officials Licences have six grading levels and are available to all CAMS Accredited Officials to achieve. Non Graded Officials Licenses have two types: Specialist Licence holders are those that hold professional qualifications and are registered medical service providers. Appointed Licence holders are those that have been appointed by the management of CAMS.

The diagram below shows the licence pathway and the available disciplines in which to specialise at Bronze level. Each of the disciplines in blue have an associated training module, as does General Official

(Introductory Module), Club Chief and Silver level. For more information on training modules, visit Training.

An official may hold different levels for different disciplines of officiating at any one time (e.g. they could be a Gold Steward and also a Bronze Rally Official). The graded levels are defined as follows:

Trainee

For those with no current motor sport officiating experience who are capable of working under direct supervision at all events.

General Official

For those with motor sport officiating experience who are capable of working under indirect supervision at all events.

Club Chief (Club Level Specific)

For those with motor sport officiating experience working without supervision, capable of performing the role of Clerk of the Course/Event Director, assuming a team-leader role (except Chief Scrutineer) or Chief Steward role at Club/Multi-Club events (excluding race, rally and off road events).

Bronze

For those officials qualified to officiate without supervision, capable of performing the role of team-leader (may take responsibility for other officials), officiating as Chief up to and including State level events and act as General Official at any level event.

Silver

For those officials with motor sport officiating experience qualified to work without supervision, capable of assuming a team-leader role (and taking responsibility for other officials), officiating as Chief up to and including National level events, and act as a General Official at any level event.

Gold

For those officials with motor sport officiating experience qualified to work without supervision, capable of assuming a team-leader role (and taking responsibility for other officials), officiating as Chief up to and including International level events, and act as a General Official at any level event.

RemindersRace Day Clothing.

Drivers need to be aware that there are minimum standards for clothing on race day and that clothing standards are part of the scrutineering process. That means that if you are not dressed in your race gear when the car is being scrutineered, then you will have to produce what you are wearing. Below is a summary of what can and cannot be worn when racing. If these standards are not met then you will not pass scrutineering and will not be able to race.

Helmet Must meet Australian standards. In good condition. No cracks, dents or deep scratches and it cannot be painted. The lining must be in good condition. Fasteners need to be in good condition.

Clothing Drivers and passengers must be dressed in clothing that covers them from neck to ankle to wrists. The clothing can not be nylon. For example, long sleeved Visy tops cannot be worn.

Footwear Footwear can be either shoes or boots. Both need to have a leather upper but can have elastic sides. For example, pull on work boots are ok but nylon sneakers are not. Leather upper sneakers/runners are ok.

Please follow the link for more in-depth explanation. CLICK HERE

Club Apparel.

Polo Tops, Sweats and Hoodies are now available to order from Blue Sky in Swan Hill with club logo. Please allow adequate amount of time for them to take enough orders to do a run. Prices for the clothing will depend on the size. Logos are available for embroidery on the back (large) and on the front.

General Official’s Course- the club needs more Official’s. The first step in the process is to complete a General Official’s Course. Can you please make contact with Lynne Paynter who will advise C.A.M.S. and start the ball rolling.
