John Biggs ConSort presented the first cultural ~ pro­gram of the year wbeo they' appeared in concert at Brown Auditorium OD Oct. 28. Mem· hers of the g r o u p included Claire Gordon, soprano; Salli Terri, alto; William Lyon Lee. tenor; and John Biggs. bass.

Probably one of the most in­teresting things about this group is the UDUSUal instruments they ll9e. Their instnDneD1s inc~ the portative organ, harpsichord. luumhorns, recorders, viola da gamba, hancl bells and various percussion Instruments. ·

'Ibe combination of these uni­que instruments. foUr well·train­ed voices, and exquisite scyle proviOed the audielce with both vocal and instrumental music. 'Ibe music was both sacred and secular, early and contempor­ary.

Part one of the program was deroted to Monteverdi and bis contemporaries. These Included pieces from England, S pa i'n, the Netherlands, Italy, and Ger· many.
