Transmission of Faith That people, who are involved in the service and

transmission of faith, may find, in their dialogue with culture, a language suited to the conditions of the

present time.

Just a reminder that all Giving Tree gifts,

with their angels attached, need to be returned by Sunday, Dec. 16th at the

Religious Ed / Faith Formation

What’s that familiar saying? “Jesus is the reason for the season”.

CLOW this weekend and will resume Jan. 6, 2019 Happy New Year!

GRADES 1-2-3 …designed, colored and decorated bags for the food pantry’s Christmas distribution. Oh, they were a sight to behold! shiny stars, Christmas trees, manger scenes and of course presents and Santa Claus, let’s not forget the camels and baby Jesus. I’m sure these festive bags brought many smiles.

GRADE 4: “GIFT OF CHRISTMAS”…the students brought in new infant toys, wrapped them and wrote a prayer for a mom and her baby. A representative from the Lullaby League gratefully accepted them.

GRADE 5 “GIVING TREE”…the students were given an angel and they purchased that present with money that they collected over the past several weeks. Good job! They were also asked to remember that particular child in their prayers.

GRADE 6 “CARING CARDS”…the students made holiday cards of care and love for our shut-ins – such creativity, beautiful art work and thoughtful words went into these cards.

GRADES 7/8 JR HIGH…brought in food items to be donated to our Food Pantry. Thank you for your thoughtfulness!

MITTENS FOR JESUS…each year we collect over 150 new mittens, hats, gloves which are then donated to inner-city agency that serves the community.

WISHING all our volunteers, families and children a peace- filled Christmas ,

fill your homes with the spirit of love and hope. Count your blessings, not your presents!

See you in the New Year.

BABY BOTTLE DRIVE

Begins this weekend! Representatives from Joseph’s

House will be at St. Francis handing out baby bottles at

all exits after masses. Simply fill your baby bottle with cash, change or a check made out to Joseph’s House and return it to the bins located in the church. All proceeds will benefit Joseph’s House, a loving home for pregnant,

homeless women and their children. For more info, visit our website www.jhfw.org or call 315-701-4981

December 16, 2018 3rd Sunday of Advent

“I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming.

― Luke 3:16 Today’s readings continue the themes of hope and expectation, adding the

element of rejoicing - for Israel, for those awaiting the Messiah and for us. But there is also a summons to repentance and reformed conduct. The good news is tempered with a call to responsibility on our part.

Like those before us, we are urged to hope and rejoice. In addition, we must ask the question:

“What should we do?”

We would like to welcome the newest member of our parish

family, Colton McCadden, the son of Jason and Shannon,

baptized on December 9, 2018.

THE LIGHT IS ON Once again during this Advent, the diocese of

Syracuse will hold THE LIGHT IS ON program: confession will be available in our Church

(in addition to the regular times) on Monday, December 17th from 4-7pm

Immaculata Medallion Award Diocese of Syracuse

The Immaculata Medallion is an award recognizing and honoring lay people who generously and unselfishly

volunteer time and service to their parishes. On one side of the medal appears an image of the

Immaculate Conception, the Patroness of the Diocese of Syracuse. The reverse features an image of the

Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The Immaculata Award was instituted in Dec. 2011 as a

component of the celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the founding of the Diocese. Bishop Robert J.

Cunningham accepted recommendations from pastors across the diocese, in consultation with their pastoral

council, for recognition. The St. Francis Xavier recipient of this award is:

PENNY ANDERSON

A Family Perspective by Bud Ozar (LK 3:10-18) Today’s gospel tells us to SHARE! This Christmas resist the pressure to give token gifts. Instead, use those funds to give necessities to the poor. If our

impoverished brothers and sisters are not on our gift list, we’ve missed the point of Christmas.
