PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

I am glad to introduce the first issue of Vikasa- the news letter of Government First Grade

College, Belthangady issued by IQAC cell of the college. The issue reveals the contribution

made in the field of teaching, research and other initiative undertaken by the college during the

academic year 2017-18.

Government First Grade College is all about to empower rural and economically backward

students through imparting higher education at affordable cost in an academically excellent and

cultured environment. Government First Grade College, Belthangady is one of the oldest

institutions in the Dakshina Kannada district. The college has been recognized by UGC under

section 2 (F) and 12 (B) recognition in the year 2002, re-accredited by NAAC and has secured B

Grade with CGPA of 2.51 in the year 2014. The college is affiliated to the Mangalore University

and follows the Credit-based evaluation scheme. The college imparts education in three UG

courses namely B.A, B.Com and B.B.M/BBA and two PG courses namely M.Com and MA in

Kannada.

I take this opportunity to thank students, staff and CDC members of our college who have been

continuously supporting to achieve academic excellence.

I would like thank the editorial committee of the newsletter for taking an initiative to bring out

this news letter. I gratefully acknowledge the support and co-operation of all teaching and non-

teaching staff and College Development Council of our college.

Inauguration of the Management Association

Management Association of the College was inaugurated on 5th January 2017 by Sri.Sooryanarayana

Bhat, Senior Manager, Synidcate Bank, Belthangady. In his inaugural address, he had explained about the

opportunities available for graduates in Banking Industry. Principal, Pof. C Rajappa presided the function

and Dr. Chandravathi – HOD of commerce and Management, Dr. Kushalappa. S – IQAC and NAAC

Coordinator, Mr. Vignesh – Student Coordinator of Management Association were present on the stage

A special lecture by Sri. Parshwanath Pallabhavi, Dharwad was arranged jointly by the Placement Cell

and IQAC of the college for the Final year students about IAS and other competitive examination on

26/02/2018. The speaker described the various options available in competitive exams and their

requirements.

A training program was conducted to the final year students of our college on 6th March, 2018 about “how

to face the job interview” by Prof. Nagaraj Poojary, S.D.M Ujire. The program was organized by

placement cell.

IQAC Cell had arranged a special talk on career opportunities for Arts students on 30th January, 2018.

The program was arranged for BA students of our college. Resource person of the program Prof. Mithun

Chakravarty, Department of English, SDM College, Ujire had created awareness about the career

opportunities and higher education opportunities in the Arts stream.

Our college has conducted admission campaign at various P.U. Colleges of Belthangady Taluk to increase

the student flow to our college. A team of faculty consisting of Dr. Antony. T. P, Dr.Subrahmanya K,

Prof.Gangadhar and Dr. Kushalappa. S visited various colleges like Vani P.U.College, Belthangady,

Govt. P.U.College, Belthangady, St. Theresa P.U.College, Belthangady, Govt. P.U.College, Kokrady and

Govt. P.U. College, Venur. The students of P.U Colleges are guided about the importance of higher

education and also motivated them to join G.F.G.C. Belthangady by explaining them the advantages of

pursuing their higher education from this institution.

A one week PAN Card and Passport Service camp was held in the college and the camp was arranged by

IQACand NSS cells of the college in association with Arun Associates Mangalore. Most of the students

utilized the benefits of the camp.

A special talk on “Entrepreneurship”

A special talk was arranged for the students by Sri. Abraham James, Faculty, RUDSET, Ujire on

26/03/2018 about “Entrepreneurship”. The speaker had enlightened the students about entrepreneurial

opportunities available, financial and other facilities available from the Government and other agencies

etc. The program was organised by Placement Cell of the college.

World Pease Day and World Environment Day were celebrated on 21st September, 2017 in the college in

association with Rotary Club, Belthangady. Various samplings were distributed freely to college N.S.S

volunteers.The speaker Advocate Sri. Dhananjaya Rao stressed the importance of forest and environment

in checkmating the evil effects of global warming.

One Day workshop on NAAC & IQAC was organised in the college on 28th September, 2017 for

N.S.S Annual Special Camp aimed at enlarging school ground, to create awareness on cleanliness, to

develop personality of volunteers, to conduct survey of Aladangady village, to establish harmony in

community, to provide various training on educational aspects, to conduct cultural-competitions for

volunteers, to create awareness on hygienical environment among villagers, to create awareness about law

and order to students , to provide basic education on health issues, water harvesting facilities etc.
