Viking houses were built 874 AD. The environment of the Viking house is for all climates - hot and cold. These houses were made out of wood, stone or blocks of turf, with thatched or turf roofs. A fire in the middle of the Viking house was the main source of light and heat in the h0use and there was a hole in the roof to let out the smoke.

•In areas such as Iceland, where there were few trees, the walls were made of peat blocks and wooden planks were placed on the inside of the walls. •Benches around the walls were used for sleeping. They were covered with furs, skins or cloths for warmth and comfort. •Wooden chests were used to store furs blankets and other household goods.

We first got our measurements which was around 25 ‘ 15 FT and the height around 8 - 9 FT and made the shape of our house with using these measurements . We used the Push/Pull tool to make in 3d around 8 – 9 ft for the height of the house. We first got the Rectangle tool and made the sizes above by looking at sizes at the bottom of the of the window.

We used the Push/Pull tool and selected the white base and pulled it up to become 3d.

We then used the Rubber tool to erase the roof to create the inside of our house.

We drew a rectangle at the end of the house and got the paint bucket and coloured it so it looked like wood tiles.

We used the Rectangle tool to draw a rectangle at the end of the house. Then used the Paint Bucket tool to colour the wood so it looked like wood tiles. Once we did that we used the Push/Pull tool to make a step to go to the beds. Then we then went to the 3d warehouse and got some beds to put on the raised floor.We then started to make the fire place in the middle of the house. That’s what they used to make their food in those days. We then used the Circle tool and drew a circle and then drew another on inside it. This become the outside of the fireplace. We then went to the 3d Warehouse to find a fireplace to go in the middle of our barrier to become a camp fire in the middle of the house for people to cook on.

We next use the Push/Pull tool and selected the white base and pulled it up to become 3d.

We then used the line tool and drew a line down the middle of the building on the roof.

Next we used the Move tool to pick up the line and drag it up to become a roof.

We followed Mrs Beadle’s tutorial to find out how to make the sloping roof around the whole of the Viking long house to make a over hanging roof and the poles coming down to hold it up.

For the exterior design of the house we saved a few pictures off Google of woods and mud etc. We also used some design features off the Paint Bucket tool on Sketchup. These are three views of our final product…

A special feature of our design was the Viking ship. We downloaded this off the 3D Warehouse on Google Sketchup. This ship gave our final design character and made it look a little more old-fashioned, as we thought our Viking longhouse started to look a bit more modern towards the end of the making.
