The Vikings battled The Red Deer Kings on Friday at home to a gym full of fans. Although the game was close, the Kings ended up winning 84 - 76. Saturday the Vikings headed down to SAIT to take on the Trojans. There was much excitement as the game was tied at the end of regulation and headed to OT. The first Overtime however, did not solve anything and the game went into double overtime. This is when the Vikings finished it off and beat the Trojans with a final score of 106 - 100. Coach Dave Drabiuk recognized Shayn Bruney with 50 points, 26 rebounds and 11 assists over the weekend. He was one assist shy of a triple double with 30 points, 20 rebounds, and 9 assists on Saturday.
The Women’s Basketbal l team competed against the Red Deer Queens on Friday evening. The Queens took the victory from the Vikings with a score of 76 - 71. Saturday the Vikings headed down to SAIT to take on the Trojans. The game was close, as both teams battled back and forth to gain the lead. The Vikings took the win by one basket with a final score of 61 - 59.
Balancing the books… Sleep, eat, classes, group projects, studying, team practice, strength training, travel, com-petition, eat, sleep, repeat… Not all days are like this, but our student-athletes, on average, dedicate 21 hours a week to training and performing in their chosen sport. Add in weekend travel to competitions, athletic therapy, and involvement in community initiatives and there is little to no time re-maining to take on part-time jobs to offset the costs of attending university. Financial assistance is crucial to the continuation of the proud tradition of sporting and academic excellence at Augustana. Invest in our athletes and their dreams will become reality. Some of the material on definitions of deviance and crime relates to violence in sports. What are the norms of violence within a game? How have these norms changed historically and for what reasons? Discussion of gender, especially mascu-linity, relates to how male athletes view their participation in sports as being central to their male identity.
There are lots of things students and staff might not know about me and I'm happy with them not knowing. I have a work life and a private life which is none of their business. But here's one...I used to be friends with Gord and Paul in the Tragically Hip. We went to high school and university together and worked one summer together at Queen's University Summer School of English.

Go to the cabin and chill.
1. I think of my grandfather a lot. A tough little Welsh coal miner who worked his ass off and never complained a day in his life. Big hearted guy. 2. Sir Wilfrid Laurier. The best PM this country ever had. He always stressed com-promise and moderation and these have become key features of the Canadian na-tional character. I'd like to think I bring these to various aspects of my life too.
Who is your favourite band?
What is your favourite book?
What is your favourite movie?
The Doors, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Zepplin, Hendrix, Pink Floyd
Anything by Kurt Vonnegut
Don't have just one (depends on my mood): The Good, the Bad and the Ugly; Lawrence of Arabia; Fight Club; American Beauty; Pulp Fiction (almost anything by Taratino); Goodfellas; The Matrix; The Shining; The Exorcist; Night of the Living Dead

Hello, welcome to the 2nd edition of A Season of Firsts Congrats to Andy Pohl on winning the national championship gold medal in men’s cross country running. This is the first time Augustana has won the gold at the individual portion of the national championship, Carl Skinstad came close three years in a row, but came away with a trifecta of silver medals. The men’s basketball team won on the road against the SAIT Trojans, marking the first conference win against SAIT under head coach Dave Drabiuk. The Vikings now sit at 2-6. The women’s basketball team also picked up a road win against the Trojans this weekend, putting them at 4-4 so far this season. This is the first time the team has posted a .500 record to start the season under Leanne Shenton and their best start in years. Two weeks ago, Kelsey Richard hammered home 9 kills in a 3 set loss against SAIT. In doing so, she set the new high for kills in a match for Augustana women’s volleyball in the ACAC. Richard will look to top that total against the NAIT Ooks on Thursday night here in Camrose. Also two weeks ago, the men’s volleyball team pulled off their first set win and then their first match win over the SAIT Trojans on a 3-0 victory here at Augustana. The Trojans were ranked #2 in the country going into that weekend. The Vikings need only win one more match to equal their entire win total from last year as they will also take on NAIT Thursday evening. The men’s volleyball team also has two players, Matthew Yoder (2) and Cole McCartney (4) currently in the top 5 for stuff blocks this season. This is the first time the Vikings has seen two players in the top 5 for a major ACAC statistic. Lastly, our hockey leads the ACAC for goal differential, as they sit with 74 goals for and only 34 against. The Vikings also sit tied for second with SAIT at 21 points, only 3 back of defending champion MRU.
