Throughout the year, you may have noticed occasional flyers in your campus mailbox and announcements in Village Living about coffee and cookie events offered by the Office of Gift Planning. These events are offered with Alvin Blitz, chief gift planning officer, and myself, director of gift planning. You may wonder who we are, and why you’d want to join us for coffee and cookies.

Just like housekeeping, maintenance and landscaping, one of the included services for residents of Masonic Village are professionals who assist with the legal and financial matters associated with planning and how best to leave what you have to those you love and care about.

Alvin Blitz is an attorney and part of Masonic Villages’ corporate staff located in the Berks building. He is dedicated to serving those at all five Masonic Village campuses as well as Masons and Masonic widows across the country. As a Certified Financial Planner™,

I am part of Masonic Village at Elizabethtown’s leadership team. I work exclusively with residents residing here, with an office located in James Buchanan’s retirement living administrative offices.

So why would anyone want to join Alvin or me for coffee and cookies?

At these events, you may learn about changes in tax law or legal matters, ways to increase current income or reduce taxes and new and better ways to help charities. I will hold the next coffee and cookies event on Dec. 6, at 10 a.m. in the Keystone Room. If you enjoy history, you may enjoy learning about the surprisingly similar estate plans of Brother Benjamin Franklin and former Masonic Village resident Arline Hughes.
