WelcomeThe Village of Wappingers Falls Recreation Committee invites all members of the community to come enjoy our many events, programs, and parks. We are a dedicated group of volunteers that strives to enhance our community through arts, parks, and programming.
Whether you enjoy fishing, kayaking, swinging, sports or just a relaxing stroll, we have parks for you. The Greenway Trail also meanders through the village for the more adventurous type. Our youth art program and day camp enhance summer for our children. Come meet your neighbors at one of our Friday night summer concerts.
I would like to thank Averill & Associates for creating this Recreation Guide. Make sure you keep it handy so you don’t miss any of our events! Please visit local advertisers.
Many special events are offered throughout the year culminating with our increasingly popular Holiday Light Parade. The Recreation Committee always welcomes new members so if you have a few good ideas or a couple of hours to spare to help us bring our community together, come to a meeting. Recreation meets the third Monday of each month at 7 pm in the Legion Hall, 7 Spring St.

Mesier HomesteadWelcome to the jewel of Wappingers Falls: Mesier Homestead.
Built in 1741 by the Brewer brothers, the Homestead was one of the first homes in the area. In 1776 a well-to-do loyalist tea merchant from New York City, Peter Mesier, purchased the home and 750 acres of land. His family lived there until it was sold to the village in 1891. Read all about the history at wappingershistoricalsociety.org.
The Wappingers Historical Society acquired full stewardship of the Homestead and, over time, renovated the Homestead to its current condition. The Society is a volunteer organization committed to preserving the History of the Town of Wappinger, Village of Wappingers Falls and neighboring communities.
The Wappinger Indians lived right here! Come and hold one of the artifacts dating back thousands of years. The Industrial Revolution happened at the Dutchess Bleachery; we can offer some of the company’s newsletters or the book that was written about the Management Style and the Partnership Plan. Sweet Orr started making their durable pants in the village in 1871. Would you like to see the only known Stoneco Post Mark? There was a Stoneco post office, now known as Trap Rock Stone Quarry.
Who knew that right here, in this small corner of the world, the history would be as rich as any great city?
The Wappingers Historical Society asks for your support. Members and volunteers are always needed and welcome. Come enjoy a tour of the Homestead! We are open the second Sunday of the month from 1 to 4 and by appointment. We also have numerous events throughout the year; visit our online calendar or call for more information.
