•The population stands at 318,489 , making it Chile's
fourth largest city.
•Viña del Mar is located some 110 km north-west
from Santiago and borders with the port of Valparaíso to
the south
•Viña del Mar, commonly called just Viña, was developed in the 1870s as an exclusive residential and summer area for Chile's well-to-do. It is
still that, but has evolved into Chile's premiere seaside resort, often called Chile's Riviera.
Viña offers all the amenities of a resort city:luxurious estates, including the summer home of the President of Chile, waterfront hotels, parks and
gardens, social clubs, a municipal casino and theater, sport facilities, beaches, golf tennis, horse racing, lively nightlife, fine dining, and easy
access to the nearby beaches and resort towns of Zapallar, Concon, Cachagua, and the fast-growing and hugely popular town of Reñaca.
It is best known as a tourist and beach destination (with multiple beaches including Reñaca, Las
Salinas, Miramar, Casino, and others)
Visitors and locals enjoy the parks and water fountains of the city, including a large clock with its numbers made up of flowering
plants.
The casino was designed with clean art deco lines so influential in the early
twentieth century and it is surrounded by magnificent
gardens
One of its key attractions include a yearly music festival
(Festival de la Canción de Viña del Mar)
