drew farmers but when he moved to France he painted brighter things (eg sunflowers)
• Born in 1853• Died in 1890 – thought to be
suicide, but could have been murder…
Vincent’s Chair
• It is yellow, with a blue outline to make it stand out
• The chair represents Van Gogh – uncomfortable, poorly-made and simple
• Didn’t know smoking was bad for you so smoked a pipe
• Van Gogh followed in the style of other Impressionist painters such as Monet and Degas.
• They used complimentary colours (like red and green) to make things stand out.
• They used rough brush strokes and lots of paint to give the impression of movement.

• Because he struggled with his emotions, Vincent Van Gogh moved to a hospital and painted Starry Night there.
