What good is it, my brothers & sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no

deeds? Can such faith save them?  Suppose a brother

or a sister is without clothes & daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm & well fed,” but does nothing

about their physical needs, what good is it?

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

JAMES 2:14-26

But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.”

Show me your faith without deeds, & I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good!

Even the demons believe that—& shudder. You foolish person, do you want evidence

that faith without deeds is useless?

JAMES 2:14-26

Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith & his actions were working together,

& his faith was made complete by what he did.

And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, & it was credited to

him as righteousness,” & he was called God’s

friend.

JAMES 2:14-26

You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do & not by

faith alone. In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to

the spies & sent them off in a different direction?

As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

ISAIAH 58:6-7Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:to loose the chains of injustice    & untie the cords of the yoke,to set the oppressed free    & break every yoke?Is it not to share your food with the hungry    & to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, to clothe them, & not

to turn away from your own flesh & blood?

ISAIAH 58:9b - 10If you do away with the yoke of oppression,    with the pointing finger & malicious talk,& if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry    & satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness,    & your night will become like the noonday.

GALATIANS 2:6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor un-circumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.

MATTHEW 25:42-43For I was hungry & you gave Me nothing to eat, I was thirsty & you gave Me nothing to drink, I was a stranger & you did not invite Me in, I needed clothes & you did not clothe Me, I was sick & in prison & you did not look after Me.

MATTHEW 7:21Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven.
