The University pf Dayton VIOLINIST PERFORMS IN UD ARTS SERIES
News Release
DAYTON, Ohio, November 19, ·1987--Violinist Benny Kim will perform in UD's
Immaculate Conception Chapel Tuesday, December . 1, at 8 p.m. as part of the
University of Dayton Arts Series.
Kim won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 1983, and his
New York debut recital opened the 1983-84 Young Concert Artists Series. He has
performed with symphony orchestras and given solo recitals all over the
country. He appeared with the Chamber Orchestra of New England as a recipient
of their Concerto Prize and with the Juilliard Symphony Orchestra as a winner
of the Sibelius Concerto Competition in 1984.
Kim was born in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, of Korean parentage. At 16, he
won the Chicago Youth Symphony Auditions and was presented as a soloist with
the Chicago Symphony. As winner in the Senior Division Competition, he
returned the following year to perform the Beethoven .Triple Concerto under the
baton of Henry Mazur. He was also selected to perform with the orchestra in
the inaugural concert for Illinois Governor James Thompson.
Pianist Rohan de Silva will also perform with Kim. De Silva has performed
regularly with such violinists as Midori and Anne Meyers, including recitals in
Japan, at La Scala in Milan, and for Berlin Radio.
The University of Dayton Arts Series is funded in part by the Ohio Arts
Council.
