I-Park is an open-air, and a closed-studio, laboratory for artistic pursuits in the fields of music composition, visual art, architecture, moving image, creative writing and landscape design. The program was established in 2001 and evolved from the vision of its founders to provide a quiet, retreat-type setting in which serious artists would be encouraged to freely unleash their imaginations in a stress-free environment. The programmatic structures are intimate and supportive – and all artistic activities are self-directed. The facilities are nestled into a 450-acre nature preserve with ponds, fields, teaming wetlands, miles of stone walls – and a pristine river runs through it.
Each artist is provided with a private studio and bedroom, a meal program and numerous shared amenities – all at no cost to them. OPEN Studios at the end of each session is an opportunity for the public to enter the enclave, engage the artists in their workspaces and gain a better appreciation of the varied ways in which new works are conceived and developed.
We focus on eliminating distractions and minimizing material obstacles to the creative process. An I-Park residency is a gift of time, an abundance of physical and intellectual space and precious fellowship. For over 800 artists to date, I-Park has been an essential pause along their creative journeys.
We look to corporations, foundations and individuals who appreciate the cultural significance of this mission – and have the desire to help us sustain it.

Credits
Xia Gao is a visual artist who primarily works with fibers/textiles for 2D, 3D, and installation expressions. Gao has exhibited widely in numerous group and solo exhibitions nationally and internationally. She is the recipient of several nationally/internationally exhibition awards. Her work has been supported by competitive fellowships and awards from universities and foundations, including the Prizker Foundation, Vermont Studio Center, ARNA Artist Residency, and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Gao received her MFA in Textile Art/Design from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Currently, she is an Associate Professor in the department of Art, Art History & Design at Michigan State University.

Kristin Cammermeyer is a multi-media artist based in Los Angeles. She received an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Cammermeyer received grants from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Harpo Foundation, and the Toby Fund; was AIR at the MacDowell Colony, Recology SF, and Vermont Studio Center; and published in New American Paintings and Hazlitt Print. Prominent exhibitions include The Broad Art Museum, Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Hedreen Gallery, Klowden Mann Gallery, Machine Projects, and Elephant Art Space. Her work is in The Broad Foundation, Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Recology SF, and the Los Angeles Contemporary Archive collections.

Support the 2017 Site-Responsive Art Residency & Biennale
I-Park is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its internationally recognized Site-Responsive Art Biennale. New multi-disciplinary works by a contingent of 12 highly talented artists have now been installed within I-Park’s natural and built environments during the course of a 3-week residency.
This program provides a challenging, enriching experience for the artists - and the public exhibition associated with it is a powerful way in which I-Park shares its energy and creativity with the community.
While we were very pleased to have been awarded a $20,000 grant by the National Endowment for the Arts in support of the program, the total cost exceeds $90,000. Expenses include: artists’ stipends, staff support, the meals program, professional documentation, honoraria for the selection/curatorial review panels, materials and equipment.
Help us to sustain this stimulating, provocative program at the high level we set for it in 2007! All contributions will be recognized on the I-Park website.

Hugh Livingston is an innovator in the presentation of public sound environments, with installations in gardens, museums, galleries and resonant spaces. Livingston graduated cum laude in music from Yale, recipient of the Bach Society Prize for excellence in musicianship. He has an MFA in contemporary music from the California Institute of the Arts and a doctorate from UC San Diego. His most recent book contribution is on contemporary sound garden design, available spring 2017 from Harvard University Press. Livingston teaches a class on Soundscape and Landscape at the San Francisco Art Institute.
He has been the McKnight Foundation Fellow Composer in Residence in Minneapolis with the American Composers Forum, and is the recipient of grants from foundations such as Rockefeller, Getty, Doris Duke, Andrew Mellon, Fleishhacker, and Haas. He has composed a large-scale outdoor opera to be performed on a river, and is sound artist in residence at the Dumbarton Oaks Gardens in Washington, DC, Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture at the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and the Gardens at Heather Farms. Livingston is a 2016-17 Smithsonian Artist Research Fellow.

Alexander Hanson (b. 1988) holds an MFA from the University of Iowa and a BFA from the University of Minnesota – Duluth. He has exhibited work in Iceland where he was an artist in residence at HEIMA in Seydisfjordur, IS; as well as completed sculpture and installation work nationally, most recently in White Bear Lake, MN as part of Art Shanty Projects. Hanson currently resides in Northwest Arkansas where he teaches Sculpture and Foundations at the University of Arkansas.

Alessandro Perini, born in 1983 in Italy, studied Composition, Electronic Music and Science of Musical Communication in Italy and Sweden.
His artistic production ranges from instrumental and electronic music to audiovisual and light-based works, net-art, land-art and vibration-based works. His compositions have been played in festivals such as Biennale di Venezia (Italy), Festival Futura (France), Open Spaces (Germany), Connect Festival and New directions (Sweden), Procesas (Lithuania), UNM 2012 (Iceland), Moscow Forum and ReMusik (Russia), Tempus Fugit and Distat Terra (Argentina). In May 2016, he was an artist-in-residence for the Imagonirmia Prize in Milan (Italy) with a site-specific sound art project.

Herb Parker entered university in 1971. His education and exploration for the next decade or so included a tour in the Marine Corps, and, later, two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer. He received an MFA in Sculpture from East Carolina University in 1983. Parker has participated in over sixty site-specific interactions in the landscape.
He has served as an Artist-in-Residence or Visiting Artist on many occasions since 1987. He has worked at botanical gardens, urban centers and rural landscapes as well as museums and universities around the world.
Parker is currently a Professor of Art at the College of Charleston.

Bridget Quinn explores the ways “ordinary places” are shaped, and how they affect our relationships to each other through the creation of happenings, photography and sculpture. After graduating from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2007, she moved to Austin where she created the Pay Phone Revival Project, which resulted in the commission of 15 public art installations that repurposed the abandoned infrastructure of deinstalled pay phones around the city. In 2013, she moved to Detroit and founded the Picnic Club which she uses as a vehicle for understanding a transforming city.

Julie Poitras Santos’ work includes installations, performances and public projects that often involve a walking component. Also a writer, she studies areas where art and language intersect. Poitras Santos’ work has been exhibited widely, including exhibitions at the ICA at Maine College of Art; the Urban Institute of Contemporary Art, Michigan; the Centre for Contemporary Culture, Barcelona, Spain; Reykjanesbaer Art Museum, Iceland; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver. She has attended residencies and created projects in the United States, Sweden, Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Iceland. Poitras Santos lives in Portland, Maine and teaches part-time in the MFA program at Maine College of Art.

Sam Stocker is a freelance visual artist from England with over fifteen years of experience planning and delivering digital and visual art workshops. His experience includes working with young people and adults at locations in the UK and Japan. Projects have included painting, video making and sculpture, which culminated in performances, exhibitions and presentations. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Tokyo University of the Arts.

Andrew Ranville was born in 1981 in Michigan, USA. He lived and worked in London, United Kingdom 2006-2016, where he received his MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art. Ranville’s installations, sculptures, architectural interventions, photographs and films underline research that includes environment, community, and fieldwork as a medium. The balance between the formal and functional aspects of the work often elicits viewer interactions, and are realized using ecologically sensitive methods which emphasize revitalization and resilience. He has been living and working nomadically since 2016.

Hannah Streefkerk (1973) comes originally from The Netherlands where she received her Master in Visual Arts at the Art Academies of Maastricht and Groningen. For the past 5 years, she has been living and working in Sweden. In her work, she investigates our role towards nature, how we see or don’t see nature. Streefkerk utilizes a lot of textile techniques and materials in her installations, 2-dimensional works and art in nature. Streefkerk shows her work over the complete world. This is her second residency at I-Park.

Erica van Loon
Erica van Loon lives and works in Amsterdam and, incidentally,̀ in more scenic, often mountainous, places as an artist-in-residence. After receiving a BA in Architectural Design and Fine Art, she attended the post-academic institution, De Ateliers in Amsterdam.
With her recent work she reflects on the physical interconnection between the human body and that of the earth, simultaneously searching for ways to relate to their less tangible inner worlds; like hidden processes inside our planet or the human (sub)conscious.
She works with a variety of media and often uses repetitive actions or visual and auditory rhythms as instruments to intensify sensory perception.
