3. Set a fundraising goal for your campaign. Each fundraising page has a bar graph that shows your progress, which encourages your family and friends to give (or give more!) to help you meet your goal. The default fundraising goal is $500, but consider raising this to make an even bigger impact! Remember, if you meet your fundraising goal before the Walk, you can always increase it and keep the ball rolling.
4. Join a team! If you haven’t already, join forces with a Walk team (or create your own!) to raise even more. Once you join a team, introduce yourself and share your story in the comments, and strategize on how to get the word out about your fundraiser. Since this year’s Walk is virtual, you can also encourage anyone and everyone to join your team!
5. Create a list of top prospects for sharing your fundraising page. Prioritize sending these people more personal notes. Prospects can be friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, and especially anyone who has asked you to make a donation to a similar campaign for them! Check out our sample email on page 9 for a template to help you get started.
6. Reach out to your donors! Request donations leading up to the Walk event, and remind your network using social media (see below), personal emails, and in-person asks. Also, be sure to thank your donors early, personally, and publicly, and keep them posted on your progress.
Thank you for your interest in raising awareness and funds to improve the lives of those impacted by OCD and related disorders!
We want to make your participation in the Virtual 1 Million Steps 4 OCD Walk as easy and impactful as possible, so we have provided some tips and sample content to help you with your fundraising. Have questions? Contact us at [email protected].
GETTING STARTEDFundraising for the IOCDF has never been easier with our step-by-step guide. Follow the steps below to make the greatest impact, and read on for more tips and resources!
1. Kick off your fundraising with a donation! Registration to participate in the Virtual 1 Million Steps 4 OCD Walk is free. However, you can kick off your fundraising by adding on a $25 donation at the beginning of your Walk registration process. This initial $25 gift will be automatically added to your fundraising total and is a great way to start things off by encouraging family and friends to support your fundraiser — plus, raising $25 by September 7th ensures you’ll receive a commemorative Walk T-shirt!
2. Personalize your fundraising page. All registered walkers automatically get a personal fundraising page. Once you sign up, you will receive an email notification to claim your fundraising page. Click the link and get started! Add pictures and video and customize the language to share your story about why you’re participating in the Virtual OCD Walk.

giving. We also recommend that you take photos with the 1 Million Steps 4 OCD Walk signage, and share inspirational photos or facts about OCD and related disorders (see below).
• Include your fundraising page URL. When posting to social media, make sure to include your fundraising page URL so your supporters can access it easily and make a donation. You can also share a fundraiser on Facebook, Twitter, or via email directly from your fundraising page – just click the share icons to the right of your fundraisers name.
• Post before, during, and after the Walk event. Let your supporters know how close you are to your goal, post photos and updates from the Walk event itself, and make sure to recap after!
• Tag your donors and @IOCDF. Thank donors by tagging them and giving them a shout-out, and remember to always tag the @IOCDF (and your local Affiliate if you’re supporting them in your fundraising) and use the hashtag #OCDwalk in all your posts — this way we can see all your great updates and encourage you too!
SOCIAL MEDIASharing your fundraising page on social media is a great way to reach a wide audience and let them know why you are participating in the Virtual OCD Walk! Here are some tips for posting:

Dear [Name],
I am writing to ask for your help with a cause I care deeply about. The Virtual 1 Million Steps 4 OCD Walk is coming up on October 10th, 2020, and I will be participating to help raise money for the International OCD Foundation.
The IOCDF works to increase access to effective treatment for OCD and related disorders, end the stigma associated with mental health issues, and foster a community for those affected by OCD and the professionals who treat them.
The Virtual Walk benefits these initiatives, raises awareness, and provides a platform for community members to come together to support each other.
Read about why I’m walking and donate at my fundraising page. I hope I can count on your support!
Thank you,

GET YOUR COMPANY INVOLVEDMany workplaces incorporate charity work into their annual plan. We encourage you to make that charity the International OCD Foundation! When you involve your company, you help us raise more funds, get the word out to more people about the walk, and raise more awareness about OCD and related disorders. Plus, it’s great marketing for your company, which will get positive brand association with our attendees by supporting the Walk.
Here’s how to get them involved:1. Start a team. Register as a team and decide on a team name. Make sure to fill out your
fundraising page, including a photo and a description of why the cause is important to you.
2. Set a team goal. How much do you want to raise for the IOCDF? How many members do you want to recruit?
3. See if your company will do a match. Some companies have programs to match funds raised for non-profits. Ask around to see if your company does this.
4. Start recruiting at work. Print out a signup page and post it on the fridge at your office (or message your coworkers if you’re virtual), host a meeting (food helps!) explaining why the cause is important to you and why they should join, meet with an executive about non-profit work, and send an email (examples below!). Contact us if you would like to hand out printed materials. Everyone who joins will get their own fundraising page and will contribute to the team goal.
5. Update and thank your team members. Continuously update your team members on where you are toward reaching your goals, and remind them of walk details and why it’s important to participate.
6. See if your company will become a sponsor. There are many opportunities to sponsor the Walk. For more information, email us at [email protected].
