Virtual Reality (VR)By: Sirel Sande CAR 111
Less Virtual...More reality
History
-The start of VR is a little fuzzy due to the fact that it is hard to create a standard definition for
an alternate existence. However, there are a few notable mentions.
- Very early stages of VR trace back to the use of perspective drawing during the Renaissance
Era.
-In 1957, Morton Heilig invented a multimedia device called the “Sensorama”. This is considered one of the earliest VR systems.
-Morton Heilig created the “Sensorama”, or the “Experience Theater”, to incorporate all the
senses while watching an on-screen film.

Modern Forms of VR
- VR is found in lots of video games today and used in a variety of consoles ( PS4 VR, Xbox
Connect, Oculus Quest)
- VR is used for Airline Pilot training inside flight simulators which uses a combination of VR and
augmented reality to train pilots and unmanned aircraft pilots for drones.
- Engineering , interior design, and building layouts
Gaming

-VR is found in various types of games, including first person shooters, racing, and horror games.
Pilot Training -VR is used in flight simulators to create the safest, most realistic environment for the pilot to
train in
- Hydraulics, audio, and visual assist in tricking the body into thinking you're really moving.
-It’s cost efficient, time efficient, and more reasonable.
“Halloween Horror Nights”
-VR has made its way to real life interactive walkthroughs, like this first ever Virtual Reality
haunted house located at Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights Orlando in 2016.
- Guests wore a VR headset while entering a “...terrifying new realm of horror, combining Virtual
Reality, real-world elements, live actors, and more.”
-Combines cutting edge interactive VR technology with live actors

VR Used In Design and Layout
-In this video we see a quick example of how
VR is used to create a virtual walkthrough of
a structure before it is brought to life.
-It is interactive so the Art and Design team can
Explore different lighting, visual effects and
Auditory function.
What to Expect In The Future
-By 2021 technology will be able to create an experience for humans where we are unable to
tell the difference between the virtual and real world, with the merging of augmented reality
and VR.
-2030: We will be able to use VR to experience life on Mars and aid in space research.
By 2030, virtual reality is set to help the healthcare industry help people manage and
overcome these fears
By 2050, the high street is set to be replaced with consumers able to try on clothes in virtual
reality changing rooms, where they will be able to see how items fit
