DepED supports Palawan
THE OFFICIAL STUDENT PUBLICATION OF CASTILLEJOS NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
CASTILLEJOS, ZAMBALES
Malcolm S. Garma, CESO V Schools Division Superintendent, endorsed a letter request of Ms. Regina Lopez of ABS-CBN Founda-tion regarding the signature campaign “No to Mining in Palawan” of Save Palawan Movement to Public School Supervisors and Secondary School Principals from Sta. Cruz to Subic, July 2012. Garma permitted the group of Save Palawan Move-ment to distribute signature forms to schools, students, and staffs to support the advocacy on the Ten Million Signature Campaign for the banning of mining operations in the Prov-ince of Palawan. He stated, however, that regular classes shall not be disrupted and participation on the said activity was purely vol-untary.
Lopez stated on her letter that the granting of mining permit and new applications are increasing, even in identi-fied for protection zones, old-growth forest are being cut down, water sources polluted,
ancestral lands taken over, and communities’ wishes ignored in many areas of Palawan.
She also explained that Philippines is among the top 7 mega diverse countries in the world and our country is blessed with 228 key biodiver-sity area that 17 of which are in Palawan that has 70% of the country’s mangrove areas, 30% coral reefs, two UNESCO heri-tage sites and eight DENR de-signed protected areas. Lopez asked the Philip-pine government to say no to mining in Palawan, key biodi-versity areas, island ecosys-tem, agricultural lands, and wa-ter shed areas. “To make this happen we are enjoining 10 million Fili-pinos from all walks of life to sign their name and get counted.” Lopez said. 480 s tu den ts o f Castillejos National High School also participated on the said campaign when they signed their names on the sig-nature forms distributed by the SSG officers in all classrooms in September. cont. on page 2

Castillejos Police Station conducted a sympo-sium at Castillejos National High School with the participation of the fourth year students, regarding drug awareness, RA 7610 and RA 9262, last July 20, 2012 at school gymnasium.
SPO1 Josie Antolin explained to the seniors their right and freedoms in the school, in the community, and even in their own houses.
Antolin said that the rights and freedoms include-- right to enjoy responsible freedom of speech and expression, right to avail of all the services offered by the Supreme Student Government (SSG), right to conduct and participate in all school activities, right to information on all the issues and matters concerning them, right to vote, to be nominated and be elected into office, right to be represented in the different meetings and assemblies of the school on issues affecting the welfare of the studentry, right to due process, right to have well state of living, right to have good parents and right to protect their own from any-body that abused them and violated their rights and free-doms.
CF call of the muscle of England home and sa lahat ng oras.”
Followed by the Chief of Police, Javier Geoffrey Pas-casio who discussed the impor-tance of drug awareness.
He informed the seniors the effects of using drugs specifically using drugs in an inappropriate manner or the misuse of the drugs such as drug abuse or the taking of a substance not for its intended purpose.
He discussed the effects of drug abuse such as malnutrition, skin infections and rashes, infectious diseases like tuberculosis, bronchitis and asthma.
He added “Drugs can-not give anything good to stu-dents instead it can just de-stroy the lives and eventually can cause illness and even death.”
Levi Charle Sumacbay, fourth year student said,” ang dami kong nalaman. Dahil dito mas namulat ang aking mata sa bagay na ito at tama siya na wala itong magandang maidudulot sa aming sarili kundi kapahamakan.”
The symposium ended
when the speakers emphasized
to the seniors the benefits of
knowing their rights and free-
doms, the benefits of being
aware on drugs and to cour-
aged them to fight drug prob-
lem by cooperating and partici-
pating campaigns and pro-
grams spearheaded by con-
cerned groups to curb the
problem of drug addiction.

CNHS complied to
the directive of former Edu-
cation Secretary Jesli
Lapus on the implemen-
tion of “Gulayan sa Paara-
lan” project in support of the
government’s hunger miti-
gation and poverty alle-
viation efforts. TLE teachers spear-
headed by Ma’am Felita C.
Pulido, School Principal IV,
started to cultivate the 30
square –meter planting area
beside the school oval during
Brigada Eskwela.
“This project is good.
This could help to feed our
poor students. Besides, this is
also one way to encourage our
students to eat green and leafy
vegetables. We instruct them to
plant vegetables in our TLE
subject or if they have vacant
time”, Sir Eugene Aguillon
said, TLE Master Teacher.
Students also took part
in the realization of the project
when they planted varieties of
vegetables: Squash, Alugbati,
Malunggay, Sitaw, Talong,
Okra, Talbos ng Kamote,
Kankong, Calamansi, Siling
Labuyo, and Ampalaya.
“At first, I don’t like to
plant, but because we were
forced by our TLE teacher that
it will be a part of our grade, I
decided to plant. And when I
see the seeds sprouted and
growing, it motivates me to
plant more”, Charles Ramos
said, III-D student.
According to the report
of Cherry Morada, this
initiative sought to raise public
consciousness on the health and
nutritional dimension as well as
economic benefits of
establishing school, household
and community gardens, she
added that the school gardens
shall serve as food basket or
main source of commodities to
sustain supplementary feeding.
In a department memo-
randum issued, the former edu-
cation chief said that hunger
and malnutrition are two prob-
lems that affect 19 percent or
3,268,000 families out of the
17,400,000 households in the
country.
Former Secretary said
that children of poor parents
fail to complete their education
because hunger and malnutri-
tion force them to drop out
from school to help their par-
ents earn a living.
“We hope that every-
body will take part for the bet-
terment of this project”, Ma,am
Elena Reguindin, TLE Head
Teacher.

and talents of the students in
the field of sports, Dr. Felita
C. Pulido, Principal IV,
instructed Mr. Ariel Fastidio,
MAPEH Head Teacher I, to
introduce and open SPS
(Special Program in Sports)
in June 2012.
In line with the
efforts of the Department of
Education (DepED), SPS is an
institutionalized program that
would identify and discover
students with potential talent in
sports and hone the skills for
higher levels of athletic
competitions.
46 first year students
are currently enrolled in the
SPS curriculum under Mr.
Mark Aragones, adviser.
“Kailangan pang
mapaunlad at mahasa ang
kakayahan ng bawat
estudyante sa larangan ng
palakasan, ngunit paano
mangyayari ito kung hindi
naging handa ang ating
paaralan sa pagpapatupad ng
programang ito. Kulang din
ang pasilidad upang makapag-
ensayo ang mga estudyante”,
Sir Aragones, said.
The Special Program in
Sports aims to identify talented
athletes who shall be trained to
compete in national and
international sports
competition; enhance skills of
students in sports; and produce
athletes imbued with healthy
attitude who can contribute to
the promotion of sports in
the country.
Each student who
enrolled in the program chose a
specialization under the teacher
specialists.

Sir Fastidio, SPS Co-
ordinator, said that one purpose
of the curriculum is to develop
the skills of the students with-
out sacrificing their academic
performance, and most of all, to
gain self-confidence and self-
discipline.

instead of June, but is it time we must move the starting of classes to September?
At present, the school year starts between June and July, which includes the begin-ning of the rainy season, and ends March and April, which is the start of summer.
Almost five months since classes started in June, less than 20 school days have
Over the past few months, we experienced heavy rains and floods delivered by the strong typhoons. Because of this, frequent class suspen-sions were announced; hence, extra class sessions were given to make up for the sus-pended school days. How-ever, this situation opens up a new idea, an idea to move the school opening to September,
failed even if he went to
school daily. That is not the
only part of the grading sys-
tem. It is true that his student
attends to his class daily, but
if in every quiz, he only gets 2
out of 20 items, or 6 out of 20
items, what would you expect,
high grades? The teacher
would rather explain the
grading system and show his
class records to the parents,
or tell them to find a school
where attendance is the only
basis of the grading system.
How about if the stu-
dent would request to submit
a special project? Would the
teacher accept it? An excel-
lent teacher would not be-
cause he knows to be fair for
the other students who got
the same fate. It might also be
happened again and again, or
abused, making student to
become confident enough,
even if he gets failing grades.
A make-up activity will do, he
must strive harder to get high
grades.
The main concern
about this is that students are
shy enough to ask their
teacher if they couldn’t un-
derstand the topic. If you
cannot understand the topic,
think of a way on how you
Opinion THE VISION JUNE - NOVEMBER 2012
In order to get high
grades, a student attends to
his classes daily, takes his
quizzes and seatworks, does
his homework, passes his pro-
jects on or before the date of
submission, and recites at
least once in every subject.
On the other hand, if the stu-
dent is likely to get failing
grade, who is responsible for
this? Is it the teacher or the
student?
Most of the time, stu-
dents are responsible for
their failure. They get failing
grades, instead of high ones,
because of their performance.
These include quizzes, seat-
works, homeworks, projects,
exams, and class participa-
tion, besides, students are the
ones who make their grades,
not the teachers. It is true be-
cause 60-70% of their per-
formances, including quiz,
seatwork, homework, project,
and exam, were being made
by the student, thus the stu-
dent’s final grade will greatly
depend on his grade that he
made rather than the grade
his teacher gave.
If this happens, the
student’s guardian would
preferably go to the teacher
and complain why their son

can understand it. You can
study it alone, ask for your
classmate’s help, or better if
you ask your teacher’s help,
but then, the student will har-
ness the results at the end.
The teacher, on the
other hand, is responsible for
the failure of the students.
Students cannot learn or can-
not focus on the topic for
some instances. A teacher’s
way of teaching is somewhat
boring, which makes the stu-
dent sleepy, unable students
to concentrate, thus less
learning for the student.
One of the other in-
stances includes a bookish
teacher. This kind of teacher
always reads only the content
of the book or tells the stu-
dents to write the lecture as
exactly what is written in the
book, but does not explain
totally the topic, making the
students to learn less or none
at all.
Another one is that
the teachers are the ones who
formulate the questions in
quizzes, seatwork, and home-
work, which are given to the
students. It is true that the
student is the one who an-
swers his quiz; thereby he
determines his own score,

been lost of the disturbances in weather. Moreover, there were times that announcement of suspension of classes were late, thus making the students out in the street wet. So it can be concluded that more class disruption and typhoons may occur during these months.
In addition, if this continues, students will have less time to learn, and quality of education will be at risk.
Since cancellation of classes were caused by weather disturbances, Senator Franklin M. Drilon introduced the idea of moving the school opening to September, or the Senate Bill No. 2407. Drilon explained that, in this bill, the first three months of the school year-June, July, and Au-gust, were the period where there is more frequent occur-rence of typhoon in the country, thus making it unwise to com-mence the school year during the typhoon season as stu-dents, parents, and school au-thorities must have to deal with floods, landslides, lack of trans-portation due to flood, spread of diseases, and damaged school building and facilities. Moreover, traffic became worse with the start of the rainy sea-son due to floods and bad road conditions. Also, if the school buildings are not being utilized as classrooms during rainy season, these can be used as evacuation cites, which can be properly equipped for emer-gency.
This bill can help in minimizing the risk of getting the school children to be ex-posed to heavy rains, when-ever there are late announce-
ment of class suspension, by cutting short the months of the rainy season. This proposal also seeks to reduce three months the time students spend in school during the sea-son.
In addition, this pro-posal seeks not only the revi-sion of the calendar, but also lessens to the work of the res-cuers or authorities in charge of rescue efforts whenever there are typhoons.
However, there are also people or government agencies who agree with the tradition school calendar- start-ing from June and ends in March or April for some in-stances. The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) does not agree to change the school calendar and reset the starting of then school year from June to September. Ac-cording to the news conducted by The Philippine Star, CHED chair person Patricia Licuanan said the change would not in any way spare students from heavy rains and floods since September, October, and No-vember are also months when the country experience heavy rains, and suffer the conse-quent floods. Meanwhile, Sena-tor Francis Pangilinan advised the Department of education (DepEd) to study the proposal very carefully before actually making any decision to imple-ment this. Also, moving the open-ing of classes to September has its own problems. The stu-dents might have problems re-garding the unbearable hot weather during the months of
January to May. How can they manage to harness the lesson if they are suffering from the steaming, scorching heat of summer in non-conditioned classroom? Moreover, students will not able to focus on study-ing their lessons; instead, they will focus more on finding something that will ease their suffering from the unbearable heat. Traditional school cal-endar is our usual calendar, with the opening of classes start in June and end in May. This is also the starting of rainy season, causing some school days to be suspended because of the heavy rains, floods, landslides, and mudslides de-liver to us by several destruc-tive typhoons. Moving the opening of classes to Septem-ber, on the other hand, may have shorter months of rainy season, which is from Septem-ber to December, but these months are months where we experienced much stronger typhoon compared to months June to August. Moreover, in this school calendar, we will also experience the unbear-able heat of the summer from March to May. The authorities must, have to know all the answers and circumstances before mak-ing any move to transfer the opening of classes to Septem-ber, otherwise the students will suffer the most. If you were to ask what
school calendar you want, what
would you prefer? Is it the tradi-
tional school calendar or the
planning new school calendar?

Opinion
ccording to Wikipedia,
a free, multilingual
internet encyclopedia,
Same Sex Marriage
or Gay Marriage is between
two persons of the same bio-
logical sex or gender identity.
Same-sex marriages can be per-
formed in a secular civil cere-
mony, or in a religious setting,
and are endorsed and practiced
by various religious groups
around the world.
It is the union in
matrimony or in a civil
ceremony of a man to another
man, or a woman to another
woman. Those people who
belong to the LGBT or Lesbian
Gay Bisexual Transgender
society or community most
likely would want to commit
this marriage. Many countries
nowadays had become liberated
and outspoken enough about
same-sex relationships by
allowing or even officiating
marriages for them. Even
Philippines, do not want to be
left behind in the limelight of
LGBT’s. To be exact, a
religious sect located in Baguio
helps LGBT’s to be recognized
as couples giving them the
opportunity to declare their
partnership and love before
God and the people around
them.
But the problem is,
when God created Adam, He
also created Eve—not Another
Adam.
As I have studied,
researched and asked about the
same-sex, I have learned that
marriage which also called
matrimony is an intimate
personal union to which two
individuals – a man and woman
consent consummated and
perfected in a life-long
partnership of mutual love and
commitment. It is the social
union or legal contract between
people who agreed and com-
mitted their lives to be lifetime
partners fulfilling the needs and
performing the tasks of being
the better half of each other.
As what my father, a
Theological seminary graduate
and a church pastor explained
to me, “marriage is also done
for both men and women to be
limited in committing sexual
immorality and adultery. It is to
refrain them from sinning,
which is unholy and
unacceptable for the eyes of
God. It is also for the
fulfillment of God’s reason for
the creation of Eve – a partner
for Adam.
If same-sex marriage
will be legalized and accepted
all of the reasons of God for it
will be forfeited.
My view for the
LGBTs? They’ve been
bewitched by the things they
believed they are. Delusional
by the truth, they act like
they’re man or woman, they
dress like one and they think
like one. That should not be.
Blinded by the Lilliputian
affection and pleasure by

Denying what you have done wrong does not save you from it. It just makes you a lying thief.
S a r a h P o p e , a complainant blogger, was indeed surprised of the plagiarism of the highly respected senator, Sotto III, of her blog and used it in his speech “turno en contra” against the Senate Bill 2865 or RH Bill.
Sotto’s act is almost parallel to campus journalism. Student journalists make it a “copy-paste” habit when making their articles for the school paper. They simply imitate it, change the author and the headline, and there you go, a new and “original” piece of work.
Being a journalist, you should always keep in mind that your own work expresses who you are, and shall therefore came from you, no one else. If you copy the words
which are written by other people’s hands, then you are like facing the world with a mask which hides your true self.
We all have minds of our own. We have the ability to make our own output, that’s what makes us unique. Do not be ashamed of what weapons you are holding for every bolt still needs a drop of oil to make it work with perfect harmony and melody.
Though plagiarism is not as grave as murder and homicide, still it has no difference from theft for you are stealing the intellectual property from other people’s minds. If you like a part of their work, you may just recognize the author or writer.
Journalists do not imitate the act of stealing. Be responsible enough. You are not a thief. Plagiarism? No thank you.

One of the diseases that
our government is still facing
and struggling about is the
continuous deterioration of the
quality of education. The
disease has gone too far
causing a higher rate of
poverty, unemployment and
worst is crime. Several
programs had passed but the
malady remains uncured.
Two years ago SEC
2010 also known as UBD
curriculum was implemented
and effectuated in the
secondary level both public and
private schools, particularly in
the first and second year level.
As the days went on, criticism
from different sectors of society
began to pour out and fill the
“comments and suggestions”
website intended for the
program. Once again, the flaws
of the program exposed the
inability of our government to
combat illiteracy amongst the
young generation of the
Filipinos.
Now, while 2010 SEC
hasn’ t proved ye t i t s
effectiveness, the K to 12
curriculum has discharged
believing that this will increase
the performances level of
student, improve the quality of
education and prepare young
people for a better life. Asked
the teachers’ opinion (Grade 7
teachers, in particular), they
find it helpful, effective and
appropriate to the needs of the
students of this generation.
Less burden also for the
teachers, the modules have
already been provided and most
of all students centered. And
yet, the same dilemma
continues to exist. The needed
materials for better execution of
the lessons aren’t available, if it
is, insufficient.
It’s too obvious that
what is more vital in teaching
and learning process is being
taken for granted. Some of
those are lock of classrooms,
still many students are taking
lessons under the tree, if there
are classrooms, and most are
crowded, new technologies to
enhance learning, not to
mention the students who go to
school with an empty stomach.
The author must have forgotten
to include the necessary details
to achieve the ultimate goal of
the program.
Well, it’s not fair to
judge something which is still
on the process of proving its
worth. Our government must
have spent millions to carry out
what we hope to cure for our
country’s disease. Let’s just
hope for the best.

Being bullied can seriously affect a child’s physical and mental health. This may include: feeling sad and lonely, lacking confidence and feel ing bad about t h e m s e l v e s , b e c o m i n g depressed, complaining of various physical symptoms e.g. headaches, stomach aches, worrying and trying to avoid going to school.
B a s e d f r o m m y experience and from what I observe, all that are mentioned are true.
Parents can help a lot if their children are bullied. How? They shall:
Be open to the possibility that your child might be being bullied. Some parents may not think of bullying as a possible reason for their child distress.
Listen one of the most important things you can do is to listen to your child if they say they are being bullied. It can be very difficult for them to talk to anyone about it.
T ak e yo u r c h i ld seriously Many children suffer in silence for a long time before they tell anyone. They may be ashamed, embarrassed, and may believe that they deserve it. Many children are frightened
of telling because they fear the bullies will find out and hurt them even more. It can take great courage to tell an adult.
Do not blame the child being bullied is not their fault (although they may think it is).
Reassure them that they were right to tell you.
Do not promise to keep the bul lying a secret . Something must be done about it. Reassure your child that you, and the teachers, will make sure that things do not get worse because they have told you, Tell the schools so they can stop it. Teachers don’t al-ways know that a child is being bullied. Fine out if there is an anti bullying programme in the school.
Talk with your child and work out ways of solving the problem. Include your child in decisions about how to tackle the problem. For example, work out some practical ways for them to stop the bullying. You might discuss what they should say back if they are called names, or where it’s safe to go at play-time.
Bu l l y i n g c an be stopped only if parents and teachers will work hand-and-hand and if they have proper knowledge and education.

Bullying is common in all schools. It is hurtful and deliberate. This happens when a child is picked on by another child or group of children. Victims become the center of fun and find it difficult to defend themselves. This may happen again and again, and can go on for a long time unless something is done about it. In our guidance office, 7 out of 10 problems are about bullying. This is very alarming. School officials should make it clear that they won’t allow bu l l ying an aggress ive behaviour. I, an ordinary student, also suffered from the excruciating pain of bullying. I noticed that my aggressive classmates are the bullies and the shy, quiet, alone, disabled, and obese are being bullied. This makes me decide t o r e s e a r c h o n www.Prevnet.com-bulliying and www.worldhealth.com. According to m y source, children who bully may punch another child, kick them or trip them up, take or spoil their things, call them names, tease them, give them nasty looks, threaten them, make racist remark about them, spread nasty rumours about them, not let them join in play or games, not talk to them,

PROVINCE OF ZAMBALES — the western coast of Central Luzon of the Republic of the Philippines. It is bordered on the north by Pangasinan, on the west by the South China Sea, on the east by Tarlac and Pampanga, and on the south by Bataan. Instituted in the 16th century under the Spanish rule, Zambales is blessed with little lowland which lies along the narrow coast where the town centers are situated, one of which is Olongapo, now a highly urbanized city and once the site of the biggest US naval base in Asia. It has become an industrial and tourism zone under the Subic Bay Metropolitan Author-ity (SBMA) since it was turned over to the Philippine government when the Americans left in 1992. With docking facilities, international airport, tourist attractions such as world-class resorts along Subic Bay, national parks, , a deep natural harbor protected by mountains on three sides, convention centers, and modern hotels aside from those that used to be Ameri-can servicemen’s quarters, Olongapo remains to be one of the most visited cities in the country and potential investment centers for both local and foreign companies. One important aspect of the history of Zambales province is the story of fast, challenging and demanding development that became a significant factor not only to the people of Zambales but also to its neighboring provinces. City of peace and noblety, in the Pearl of the Orient, citizens are the heroes — Olongapo! Fuelled by the spirit of volunteerism, Olongapo, became known as one of the most child—friendly cities, cleanest city in the Philippines, and a city where laziness is prohibited. Still, it defends its long known title as the “City of Modern Flambeaus” or the locally known as “Philippine’s City of Lights”. As we can remember, the city once suffered under the destructive eruption of Mt. Pinatubo. The people, mourned for numerous lost of life/ love ones, sources of living, and properties. 1991 then became as one of the dark eras of the city. But, the people and the whole city never give up, they stand still in battling against the frightful times, surviving the last bitter hours which slays down its strong faith, determination, and unity. Through the magnificent spirit of volunteerism, Olongapeños and Olongapo survived the merciless destruction brought about by the eruption. Right after the last steps of the day, came, the live night life and entertainment industries of the city. The bars, KTV’s, discos, restaurants, eateries, resorts and hotels, and entertainment/business industries sprouted during the reign of military bases of Subic Bay Freeport Zone (SBFZ) to accommodate the rapid growing of tourist needs. Navies, trainees, corps, tourists, and mariners considered Olongapo as their second home from where they found entertainment, leisure, and deluxe. Both small and large industries like grills, food stands, motels, parlors, therapy services, and spas in Olongapo earned twice as their regular income everytime there were submarines, aircrafts/airplanes, and ships from SBFZ, especially naval ships, and American aircrafts. But life is like a wheel, sometimes there are ups and downs. In 1992, the live night life and entertainment industries fell down when Subic Bay freed from the naval bases. Also, together with the lost of military bases, job opportunities were reduced like the naval magazine, SRF, and shipyards. And it is considered as another downfall for the Olongapo’s economic stability. However, the battle never ends there, through the help of wise and lawful leaders, Olongapo once again survived from its downfall. Both local and foreign investors and businessmen were encouraged to invest in Olongapo for it has very good, accessible, and resourceful sites that will surely attract customers, buyers, tourists and other investors. The population of people in Olongapo is enough for the construction of much bigger establishments and commercial businesses from big companies. Henry Sy – the richest man in the Philippines is one of the investors which laid its trust to the progress of Olongapo that has signed by the board of government officials. The following year 2011 the construction of the mall started. And at last, the first ever SM Mall in the crustal surface of Zambales was built. SM City Olongapo offered variety of job opportu-nities such as construction works, salesmen/clerk, attendants, janitors/ utilities, food servers, security guards and personnel, and many more. Ayala Mall and Group of Company – another successful business group in the Philippines opened new business proposal and was successfully signed by the board of officials. Fortunately, the project was built at SBFZ which signifies more job opportunities and tourist attraction for the continuous, operation of the industries inside and outside Olongapo. Now, Olongapo City seems to be risen up from its dreadful nightmare, ready to face another difficult circumstance, and equipped in progress making. Yet, still, behind its increasing industries, Olongapo will surely continuously “Fighting for Excellence”.

Do you remember those times you sang in front of an electric fan because your sounded as if you were singing underwater? How about time in summer when you forced your body to fit in your refrigerator? Ah yes, good times.
It feels so good to be young, not only being strong and wrinkle-free, but also having the heart of an innocent child in a daring adventure. But why are some people rushing themselves to grow up?
Maybe one reason is when we’re children; there were always rules, rules, and more rules. Admit it, that you
think of tomorrow, because we are enjoying every minute of our life. So what if there are rules? At least you won’t be troubled by the need to earn money to live. And you know, plenty of grown-ups wish to be children again.
The best part of is you
get to eat “Milo” while watching
Ben 10 to “grow-up”. So why
wish rush things? There’s no
need to be in a hurry. Let’s

to be, living young, wild and

hated naptime in the afternoon. You also feel bad every time your parents asked you to go home from a very afternoon with your playmates. You were thirsty for enjoyment.
People think it’s fun to be old. Well not really the old type that is 35 years old and over. I’m pertaining to teenage life. Why? Is it because we get to drive our own cars? We get to party every night? And free to do whatever we wish to?
As we grow up, our lives get boring. Our responsibilities grow denser. Our lives get complicated. But as children, we never have to
“No other success can

McKay once said of LDS
Church.
As I understand,
family means father and
mother I love you…..God gave
us families to show our love
with each other. As parents, we
are to give our care to our
children. As a father, you are
to preside, provide and protect.
As a mother, you are to be a
procreator, care and nurture
your children.
In this life, we are
given families. We were sent
here to enjoy God’s creation
together. Parents must and
should give their children
everything they need. They
must set good examples that
their children will emulate.
They must have TIME to be

how busy they are in their jobs
or works. There must be a

Nowadays, Satan has
been working hard to ruin
families with different
temptations. Parents must then
devote their time to look after
their children’s welfare. They
must take hold forever of their
children. The husband and

nurture their love for each
other. They must also take

Teachers Are Not Super Humans…..
F. C.
As everyone believes
“Teaching is the noblest
profession”. A nation is built
because of the teachers who
sacrificially import their
knowledge to raise,
educate and train
the whole being of
the dwellers of
this world. It is
so unworthy to
just forget what
teachers do to a
person. Their sacrifices
might be measurable but
their influence is not.
No profession can be
compared to teaching.
Engineers build buildings and
bridges, good. Doctors heal the
sick, better. Teachers cure
ignorance, best. Teachers
possess a parcel of ability of
every profession.
Teacher’s ability is
proven in many ways. Teachers
can recognize talent, discover
potentials, read minds, perceive
emotions, discover problems,
my favorite teachers sent me a
message. It says, “Teachers are
not superheroes……The
message struck me. I came to
realize that teachers are not
made of steel. They are also
ordinary human beings that
need to be understood, to be
taken care of, to be treated like
one of us who has a weak side.
They may look strong,
happy and contented but behind
those appearances is a person
burdened afflicted or maybe
suffering like others do.
I don’t know how each
of us viewed a teacher.
Teachers have different char-
acteristics, qualities, points of
view and the like. They may do
either unpleasant or pleasant
things or misbehave, one thing
is for sure, honor and respect
will always be given to
teachers.
Happy Teacher’s

“The mediocre teacher
tells, the good teacher ex-
plains, the superior teacher
demonstrates, the great teacher
inspires.” A well known line
from William A. Ward. Teach-
ers can explain, demonstrate
and of course inspire students.
Doing the three can not
only be done in school but
through social networking
sites. Most of the students and
teachers are now using My
Space by Tom Anderson,
Friendster by Jonathan Abrams
and Facebook by Mark
Zuckenberg. In just a simple
click, we can chat with our
friends, families, relatives or
even someone so special and
we can converse with them in
a video call. We can do the rest
and that is to inspire with a
wall post, a photo with caption
even like your friend’s post
and like their comments which
are lovely or praiseworthy.
It’s great to have these
technologies but of course we
have to be aware of its harmful
effect, we can read posts that
are not good, foul words or
even photos that are degrading,
videos that are immoral.
Students can see these things
that can harm them yet teach-
ers can correct them and be of
help. Teachers can be friend
with students though social
networking sites if their pur-
pose is to inspire each other
but if it is the other way
around, think!
So is it acceptable for
teachers and students to be
friends in social networking
sites? Think again.

THE VISION JUNE - NOVEMBER 2012
Keg_07
By S.Y.
I thought…. I made my
mistakes with…. I don’t even
know what’s right and
wrong…..
In these days there are
many questions in my mind.
But the answers are in the air.
This is more than the typical
kind of thing; I do not know
where does it come from? I do
not know? I remember my
mistakes started when I met
him.
My story starts when
an endless night came. I was a
high school student then, my
knowledge about world and
reality was not that deep. I was
only on the shallow part of my
life. Since then school was my
home. For me it was just a
dream came true to have a per-
fect family that is already bro-
ken because of mistakes and
sins until every relationship on
that home has been destroyed.
I can talk to my mom
once a month. Well I’m very
lucky if I could join her for
dinner and there to listen for
me. My dad does not really
care for me he only cares for
his business. My brother and
sister are just like my dad they
do not care for me. It is really
hard, no one can listen for my
problems no one can guide me.
Then I found out it is just me
walking alone for my problems,
solving them alone. But thank
God there are true friends who
comfort me when I am lone-
some and broken. It is just like
a little heaven for me. But still
it’s not complete I can’t find
love. But what is love? One day
John came, he was a blessing
for me. He became my father,
brother and good friend in my
life. I thought he is the cure for
my broken heart but I’m
actually wrong, really wrong!
One night we went out and go
to the sea shores to talk. He sit
beside me and hold my hands
on that moment I felt so much
joy then he starts kissing me,
his lips it is so soft and sweet.
When he hugs me I can feel the
heat of his body. He holds my
hands really tight it seems that I
already reached my cloud nine.
But it is just the beginning of
my Calvary on that point my
eyes are already open from the
world of reality and mistakes.
It is already morning,
when I woke up. I realized that
life is not fair. My eyes are
bold from the bitterness of life
and reality that anything can be
destroyed with just one snap.
On that time he is not there
even he’s shadows. I can’t see
him anymore. There are two
questions on my mind on that
time. Where is he? What am I
going to do?
Days past and nights
are gone I can’t hear any words
from him anymore even a
whisper in my ears. It is only
just a dream of yesterday
mistakes. And that is the image
formed on my mind.
When I was a child I
was holding a doll but know on
my arms I was holding a baby
boy that reminds me of John,
and a bottle of milk.
Even hundreds or
thousands of tears came out
from my eyes still….. my
closed eyes will never come
back and even ME as Nene.

FEATURE THE VISION
I didn’t know if I would
laugh or simply cry when Father’s
Day is celebrated during those
days. Everybody seemed to
welcome much the event when
you see some establishments or
even media posting greetings to
fathers. They express much praises
to fathers portraying a perfect man,
bearing all the good qualities that a
father could posses. If it wasn’t the
worst or commercial I had even
seen or heard.
I came from a family that
no one would ever wish to live if
he/she was there. It was such a
nightmare that someone would
wish he’d be dead instantly.
My father worked as a
welder in one of the known
shipping yards here in
Zambales. He was receiving a
salary that could hardly raise a
family with six children. He was
a reflection of a person struggling
for survival, for his own survival.
Ever since, I was born (or
perhaps even when I was just still
in my mother’s womb), I could
already hear their constant
arguments. My father would roar
at my mother and when intense
rage eat him up, my mother would
then taste the extreme blow of his
fist straight to her arms and legs.
That scene had become an ordi-
nary scenario to us. Most of the
time, they would fight over
money. My father was naturally
generous, yes to his friends. Those
he frequently treated with drinks. I
couldn’t remember a time when
my father shared even a centavo to
my mother for even a single meal.
My mother depended only on her
own money, working as a house-
maid. Almost every day when she
gets home she would prepare and
feed us leftover food from her em-
ployer. My two sisters were able to
finish high school not because of
my father’s effort but because of
or her deep intentions, and when
we judge, it’s harder to accept the
others. Make sure that you already
know yourself before judging the
life of others.
The last but most
important reason is that we love to
imitate others, we want to copy
them, to do the same things, and to
act and think like them. The big
problem with this is that we never
know who we really are and what
we really want, and then we will
never grow spiritually. Always
remember that when you are
content to be simply yourself and
when you don’t compare or com-
pete, everyone will respect you.
It takes courage to grow
up and become who really you are.
We all have unique characteristics
that we should be proud of. Don’t
be shy to show the gifts that God
had given us. Just be yourself and
don’t imitate because everyone
else is already taken.

One day, while at school,
shocking news, struck me. My
father fell from one of the ship he
was constructing. I didn’t know if
I would be happy or sad. He was
hospitalized for a few days, but
eventually died. But before that, he
was able to ask forgiveness to us.
We told him, we forgave him to
make him go in peace.
After that, our lives
gradually changed. I thought I’ve
already forgave him, but I haven’t.
I was still mad, bitter, and pain
hasn’t left yet. In school, I was
always quiet, keeping myself
secluded as I could. I seemed
trapped in this dark phase of my
life.
Until one day, until one
of my classmate came to me and
talked. She invited me to their
church and introduced their
faith. That moment, I felt a
dark cloud swept away
from me. I cried and cried
until my handkerchief
soaked with tears. I began
to feel lightness and hope
sprung like sprout.
I’ve found a father in the
person of God. He may not be with
me physically, but there’s an
assurance that he will never
abandon me. My relationship with
Him grew up each day. I learn to
entrust Him each day of my life,
believing that He will sustain me
in whatever burden I may carry.
I’ve already forgiven my
father. “Father’s Day” I no longer
question that. What I had gone
through with my earthly father
served as an experience to make
me a better person.
A father will always be a
father, whether good or evil. In my
case, my father seemed condemna-
ble, but who am I to judge? Every
human could be forgiven and that
includes my father. Everything has
reason.
Let us not lose hope, for
one day. We will know.

my mother’s constant begging of
advance payment. These were
times when father would come
home drunk, throwing everything
that he would bump into, even if
that “thing” was his own child. I
had experienced being beaten up
severed times because of my sim-
ple tantrum as a child. I got used to
a situation wherein my mother
would give birth without father on
her side, where was he? …He was
with his friends, having fun with
their drinking habit.
And
the worst of all was, when my
youngest sibling died because of
his negligence. My mother asked
to watch over my brother, who
was then two years old, so she
could go to her employer if she
could get an advance payment for
our schooling. He left my brother
onto his crib. My brother found a
rubber ball and put it into his
mouth, as expected, the ball stuck
on his throat and eventually killed
him. My father noticed the silence,
went to check on my brother, and
there he was, cold and blue. I
wanted to curse him to his face,
crush him into pieces but I was
able to control myself. My mother
was dumbfounded for months. She
wanted to leave my father, but he
didn’t allow her. He begged her to
stay, so she did. But their
relationship could be compared to
a cold war.
A father will
always be a father,
whether good or evil.
Happy Father’s Day

“You should be like your
mother or father”, “You should get
high grades”, “You should be
famous”, “You must be the best of
your class” etc. These are some
advices you can hear from people
around you and it is not always the
best of thinking. There are many
reasons to change this way of
thinking and begin to compare
ourselves only with ourselves. As
Leo Buscalgia said, “The easier
thing to be in this world is you.
The most difficult thing to be is
what other people want you to be.
Don’t let them put you in that
position.”
The first reason to avoid
comparing yourself with others is
that you cannot change the fact
that there will always be someone
better than you. It doesn’t matter
in which field or aspect, but it is
always true. You only have to do
is just to accept that you are not
always on top, you are not always
be the beautiful or handsome
in your campus, you are not al-
ways be the most intelligent stu-
dent in your class and you are not
always be the best of what you
think.
The second reason to
escape this kind of comparison is
that you will always find someone
worse than you, but as a contrast to
the first reason, this can make you
feel better than others, and this
feeling can turn into a horrible
pride. For example, you are the
second best student of your class,
and one day the very best student
leaves the school, you will be then
the best one although you are still
only as good as you were before. I
suggest you to believe in the
saying came from Judy Garland,
“Always be a first rate version of
yourself and not a second rate
version of others.”
The third reason is that
the one who compares him/herself
with others is judging, and it
doesn’t help us to develop as hu-
man beings. Nobody knows the
internal reality of others. You may
not know his or her story and his

I was lying in the hospital I can feel the presence of death in me.
Death is beside me…I knew it!...yes I knew it, Waiting for my time, giving me a countdown of seconds.
My last hour!!!
The pain keeps on pounding, ache squirt all over my vein. Burden is my heart! Boggled is my brain!
Hopelessness overcomes me!!!
I was conscious… yes I am. But, I can not move and feel my body,
I can only move my eyes, And all I can see is the white and bright light in the ceiling.
I have talked to death! Yes I did,
“Death!... before you finally separate my body from my soul, I wanted to do last 3 things that will surely change the world!”
But…but death didn’t reply back. And he is just sitting beside me and listening to my words.
I have continued…
First, I wanted to plant billions of trees. Trees for shelter, for food, and trees that will bring back the balance
of nature… Death laughs and continued in ticking the glass hour.
Second, I wanted to leave a child… my own child,
A child that will rule the world in future With faith, leadership, and honesty.
Then suddenly, I felt a hot rolling liquid from my eyes, Am I crying? ...yes I am…. I am crying!
Then there comes the third thing….
I wanted to make a song!!!! A song that will inspire the world to settle for peace.
Then death finally ask me, “instead of wishing for those things, Why not wish for extension of your life?”
That was then that I laughed and said, “only GOD can do it”
Death vanished with an echoing voice saying, “I will show you one thing that is better than your last three wishes”
And as I turn my eyes in my surroundings, I can see the doctors, nurses, and attendants in panic.
They are all hurrying and doing their best to save my life. I have remembered my last minutes…. Then I cried!
I saw my mama and papa
Crying outside the glass window of the operating room, I felt burdened!!!
I wanted to shout but I can’t I tried to speak but I can’t
I wanted to say how much I love them But…..
But…. I cannot!!!
And before I gave up my last breathe, I have realized one last thing that I wanted to do….
I shouted, “Death!.. I wanted to make a mini towel!” Death shows up with a meaningful smile.
Why? He asked…
I replied with my last breathe, with tears in my eyes, “Because I wanted to wipe their tears!!!”
My love one’s tears! Tears!
“I have NOTHING but
I’m rich” By Oyu
Men invest too much for education. Parents work like super heroes toiling day and night to suffice the educational needs of their children. A father or a mother working in a foreign land that offers better salary would sacrifice for many years to provide the school requirements like tuition, book, project, daily allowance, etc. Rich and poor value education believing on a concept that “Education is the best wealth
that can never be bought by money or power.” Work hard for education, invest for education, and sacrifice for education. SACRIFICE means giving up of something important or valuable.
Parents working abroad feel scorching pain for not seeing their children and having no time in taking care of them. When you touch a newly-born pet, a mother dog would bark at you and is angry for she thought that you hurt her baby. Mother dog guards and stays with her pet to give assurance for safeguard. Chicks would terribly cry for sadness if they are away from their mother chicken. If animals have such feeling, what more
to children whose parents are miles away and are separated by thousands of mountains and huge bodies of water. This situation results to misguided children and worst broken family members.
My parents have no education. They don’t have money for my education. I have no education but I’m rich.
After one has graduated, he looks for a job. He may start from the lowest position but soon he aims to be in a higher rank. He wants to be promoted because the higher his position the better his salary. He needs to double his time and if possible double his effort. He will be working
hard again to meet the requirements and deadlines. Study for Master’s degree, er-ratic schedule, sleepless nights…Limited time or no time at all for a close emotional bonding with family members. He is busy. He is fully occupied with mountains of work. He is not free. He has no time.
I have no work. I’m not busy but I’m rich.
If one has established a good work position, it follows that he has good income. He now has the money. He wants to establish business, to travel abroad, and to buy house and lot, car, gadget, and many more. This may result into two situations. One has experienced all the
pleasure in this world until he unconsciously wants more and discovers nothing is left in his money and he decides to borrow more until it becomes an UNpayable debt. The other one becomes successful. His properties grow and his personal savings increase. He saves a lot of money for his future and for the future of his family. But when he dies, what he left becomes the cause envy and greed.
I have no good in-come. I have no money but I’m rich.
If I put my heart on being happy, I will have to learn not to want anything.
I have nothing but I’m rich.
My Friend Jasmin Jane A. Clavaton
There was a time when I felt sad
And told myself that I am bad
Because that time I never had
A friend who will make me so glad
And the time came when I met you
And on that time my dream came
true
To have a friend who is like you
One who I love and love me too
My friend, I just want to thank you
For every good thing you do
And I will never forget you
Because you are so good and true
You’re always there to make me
strong
And forgives me when I do wrong
I hope your life will be so long
And have melody like a song.
THE VISION JUNE - NOVEMBER 2012
Smile By Valentin Rabara
Even before I had already this feeling
Now I can’t believe all of these were happening
Smiling with me and attention you’re giving
That’s all that matter for my life now has meaning.
They thought I’m crazy when I smile with no
reason
But the truth is, I bring back something I hold on
Memories of you is like light in the darkness
Sweet memories that lasts and leads to happiness.
How beautiful your smile is when you look at me
And your smile is sweet, so sweet just like honey
I’m the happiest man the world could ever see
If someday you and I were really meant to be.
I’m hoping that you and I will be together
For our love and smiles stay forever
Because when we were together smiles were made
But when you leave, all of those sweet smiles will
fade.

forts of 38 cheer dancers and their

Griffins grabbed the title for the
cheering competition, last Septem-

After being declared as
the best cheering squad, Red Grif-

Red Team defeated four
rival teams; Green Hawk, Yellow

As the word Griffin im-

team shone in the competition.
They electrified the
audience as they cheered with full

Sport as a form of
leisure and exercise has been
given much attention
nowadays. It is viewed as a
perfect avenue to develop
fitness and wellness. Fitness,
since it develops one’s
physique, and wellness, as it
makes an individual mentally
and physically sound. Since
sports offer many benefits to
students i.e. it helps an
individual grow physically,
mentally, emotionally and
socially, an individual does
not only enjoy once he
engages into a play but de-
velop his total well being as
well. For the past various
sports competitions, teach-
ers and students alike were
given chances to trigger shots
which painted barricades and
divisions. It appears to be an
intense rival between curricu-
lums, a battle for supremacy,
where teachers at some point
gave much pressure to players
to win. A combat which
they believed would put an
end to a trivial idea of who is
better, of who should have the
bragging rights.
What a shame! The
very institution that should
teach the very purpose of
sports is also the culprit for a
misguided notion! Instead of
instilling sportsmanship, we
cultivate animosity. The
recognition we achieved out
of winning is nothing, because
we play out of track. And as
far as the rule of the game is
for total wellness and devel-
opment, an irreversible occa-
sion which bids countless op-
portunities for excellence and
that would foster camaraderie,
cooperation and teamwork.
What a wonderful package
that is! But apparently, It was
such a big a lost! Chances had
just passed by, because we
had been clouded by some
irrelevant matters which gave
us the wrong view of the real
purpose of sports. We got the
wrong vision of what sports
should serve.
Firstly, the Intramural
Meet, a school activity which
is supposed to unite students
and teachers to a common
goal through sports, turned
out to be a parade of colors
concerned, that is a foul!
Secondly, we under-
stand that as an institution, we
badly need to take some risk
for our name’s sake. We com-
pete to other schools just like
in the district and zone tilt to
qualify for the Provincial
Meet. And when we say com-
pete, we mean, we really and
seriously compete. Since stu-
dents represent the school, we
wanted them to be the best!
For one, school’s
prestige! Second, we are
afraid of losing, and we think
that we became the laughing
staff. As such, we carry out all
means to gather the best of the
best we have, even this mean
would be demeaning. We do
some inevitable adjustments,
along with justifications that,
“It’s not just we, who do it!”
What a sound mind! Right?
Lastly, rigorous prac-
tice is part of the training;
there is nothing wrong with
that. In fact we enjoy it!
Teachers out of the class
because they are busy training
their players? That’s great!
Should it be taught as a ne-
glect of the profession? Was it
compromising learning? Well,
they are teachers, they should
know better than us.
In the end, we all run
in a common race, we all opt
for a common goal.
Excellence! But we could
only attain that if the real pur-
pose is SERVED!

petitions which provide entertain-
ment to its viewers. Nowadays, it
is used in promoting environ-
mental concerns. But aside from
that is a form of leisure which fo-
cuses with the physical beauty,
talent and of course the personality
of the contestants. Somewhat, it is
a venue wherein individuals de-
velop physically, mentally, emo-
tionally and of course socially. It
builds one’s confidence and self-
esteem.
There is an unending is-
sue regarding with these beauty
pageants, if we would allow gays
to join this contests. Until now,
every one of us has different
stands about this certain issue.
Some would say that
beauty contests are intended only
for REAL WOMEN. That’s why
the winners are called “beauty
queens” and the essence of the
competition is being a woman. It
does not mean that they are al-
ready acceptable in our society, we
would also allow them to join
beauty contest referred as Gay
Contest. It would be unfair for
women if gays are allowed to com-
pete against them. In addition, God
created only Adam and Eve.
On the other side, gays
also want to join pageants. As the
name implies being a gay is being
true to one’s self and expressing
own feelings. It means being care-
free and happy. Aside from win-
ning the titles and having their
crowns all they want is to gain
equality and to be treated fairly.
Because no price could be greater
than the joy they receive every
time they join those competitions.
Why not give them the chance.
The big question is will
we gain unity if we provide
EQUALITY?
