Opening Prayer

Teach us, Heavenly Father, to live with generosity:to serve You as You deserve;

to give, not counting the cost;

to fight, not heeding the wounds; to toil, not asking for rest;

to labor, not seeking any reward,save that of knowing that we do Your will.

Amen.

Church Design PrayerHoly God,

For centuries your people have raised up out of the materials of the earth,houses in which they could gather to give you praise, seek your help, and celebrate their unity in you.

They carved churches out of the rock of caves and fashioned the gold-encrusted walls and dome of the Hagia Sophia.

They raised the soaring medieval cathedrals of Europe and built the first simple churches of wood and adobe in this country.

Some of the churches of our predecessors in faith have stood for centuries, others fell back to the earth within decades.

As we gather to plan the new house for our church — our community —give us some of the inspiration that you gave our ancestors. Give us some of the wisdom of Solomon who raised your first temple.

Send your Spirit to help us to discern among the many ideas and possibilities that we will consider. Help us to listen carefully and respectfully to the many voices of those who have a stake in the decisions we make.

Bless our work today and in upcoming months. We ask this through Christ, our Lord,

who is the summit of creation and the purpose of all of our effort. Amen.
