As I thought about the staging of an awards show during a global health crisis, unprecedented in our lifetime, I concluded that the pursuit of normalcy despite personal, national, and global tragedy does not indict us as a callous people – it simply reflects the need for hope in our lives.
We are making a conscious decision to think about all the ‘good’ in the light — though we surely do not forget the shadows just beyond it. So when we choose to celebrate, with awards and laughter and the simple warmth of camaraderie, we’re focusing our energy not only on the triumphs of the past, but on the hope for better tomorrows.
If you’ve ever been to our beloved Portfolio Gala -- known as the financial marketing prom – you know how much fun it is to be in a room of 500+ peers, all decked out in their finest partywear and just brimming with excitement. But when you can’t get together with old and new friends to enjoy a good meal, to toast to mutual success – or to spend some quality time on a dance floor, how do you celebrate?
You stick to the core of what your award competition is all about: recognizing the creative excellence of the best marketing and communications work in our industry.
With another record setting number of entries from more than 90 financial brands, we are proud to bestow 193 awards to more than 50 of those brands. On the pages of this Winners Journal (smartly crafted by our Portfolio Agency of Record, Living Group), you’ll see the names of creative teams and clients who collaborated on truly stand-out work.
You’ll also see the names of our 25 judges. We thank each and every one of them for setting aside their time and energy to judge this year’s competition. And they did so during the first few weeks of March when we were just learning how our companies would need to reassess work locations and people priorities – not to mention brand messaging. Our judges honored their commitment to the FCS despite those circumstances and we’re all the more grateful to them.
I hope you find the success of the works recognized here to be inspirational as you finish out this year – setting your sights on entering your finest work from 2020 in our 27th Annual Portfolio competition, that will open in January.
