Pathways to Education:Through Pathways to education North Fork Tribal TANF Family Wellness was able to support our service communities and tribal citizens by giving backpacks that included all the necessary school supplies to help aid children in grades K-12 to proficiently be able to succeed this 2019-2020 school year. The event also consisted of resource booths and representatives from both Fresno State’s Native American Initiative and Fresno City College’s RAIN Program, which provided information to parents about students aspiring to college. Wishing a great school year to all students! Explore your backyard:Explore your backyard has been an exciting way to show NFR families the diversity of our ecosystem right here in the Central Valley, while giving families the opportunity to bond as they experience the great outdoors. The next trip, which will conclude the Explore Your Backyard family formation event, will be a camping trip at the beach. We thank all of the Explore your backyard participants and hope you have enjoyed it as much as we have! Summer Youth Enrichment:North Fork Tribal TANF Family Wellness had the pleasure of being able to host the Summer Youth Enrichment program, which was an approach to prevention through education. Over the duration of the program our youth were able to participate in S.T.E.M based research and educational activities through science learning facilities in the Central Valley. The participants were able to experience hands on learning with the functionality of our natural world and technological sciences. Summer Youth Work Experience 2019Our SYWE Program for 2019 has come to an end, but it has ended with great success. Through our mentoring and guidance, throughout this program, our youth gained soft skills, hard skills and self-efficacy. Our Work Experience Program not only helped improve academics, but also provided meaningful employment experiences that led to career opportunities for 2 (two) of our youth. Congratulations to Mr. Michael M. and Ms. Adina R., your success is our success.
Our youth also took away with them skills in money management, time management, and why clear communication is so important, as well as, understanding the importance of having a CA ID, a checking account, and savings account at an early age. Some practiced self-dependency, public speaking, gained post-secondary education opportunities to further their career paths, and matured personally and professionally.. Being involved, as Staff, in this year’s Youth Work Experience has been very rewarding and we are looking forward to Youth Work Experience 2020.
We would also like to take this opportunity to offer our deepest gratitude to our Employers who volunteered in making this year’s Youth Work Experience such a great success.
