News from the P.I.T. – Priest in Training The story from the Road to Emmaus, strikes closer to
home than most of us realize. Let me explain, in this story we have followers of Jesus Christ who don’t recognize the Lord right in front of them. Because of the cross, they become discouraged, fall into despair, and turn away from the Body of Christ even after hearing about the resurrection and the empty tomb!
How is this our story? Well, in many cases I have already experienced as a priest, we go through our daily lives not see-ing the Lord, even while he is walking with us! We go and come across many crosses and instead of recognizing the Lord with us, we fall into discouragement and despair. Little do we know that the Lord wants us to recognize that He is with us through it all! We don’t have a God who is distant through our struggles and crosses, but we have a God who enters into our lives.
That is why the Mass is so important! First the Road to Emmaus reveals the Mass, the need to repent (penitential rite), the Lord opening the Scripture to his disciples (The Lit-urgy of the Word), and finally Jesus is revealed in the break-ing of the bread (Liturgy of the Eucharist). Second, it is through the Mass, we are reminded through the Word and Sacrament, that Jesus Christ is with us! May our response be likes the disciples who discovered the Lord even in the midst of the paschal mystery, “were our hearts not burning within us while he spoke to us on the way!”
Fr. Michael Kearney
Blessing for Our Nation God of all things,
we come before you in thanksgiving for all that you have created. For the world and its beauty,
but especially for the people around us. We ask you today to give us wisdom and courage
to look at the world and all its problems and inspire us to dream great ways to improve upon
what you have so graciously given to us. Make us worthy to call you Father.
And together bestow insight upon us to honor your created things.
Bless, protect, and gift us ever anew with your love.
We ask all this as members of this country, in Christ’s name.
Amen.
Catholic Home Missions Appeal Support the Catholic Home Missions Appeal today!
Right now, over 40 percent of dioceses in the United States are considered home missions because they are unable to fund essential pastoral work needed in their communities. Your support funds programs—such as religious educa-tion, seminary formation, and lay ministry training—to build vibrant faith communities right here in the United States. Please be generous. MINISTRIES
May Rosary Devotion The Rosary will be prayed before Saturday Vigil Mass-
es and Sunday morning Masses during the month of May. Please join us.
Prayer Quilt Ministry The Prayer Quilt Ministry would like to encourage all
parishioners to let us know about those who are going through a significant difficulty and who may benefit from the prayers of our congregation and the tangible evidence of those prayers in the form of the prayer quilts. The recip-ients of the prayer quilts may be going through a health issue, facing surgery, be in the military (or just returned from military duty), dealing with grief, emotional con-cerns, etc. They do not have to be members of Visitation Parish or Catholic.
Anyone may offer a prayer quilt to anyone you feel might benefit and appreciate being covered by our prayers. The recipient MUST agree to accept the prayer quilt. If you would like to request a prayer quilt for someone, please complete the form below, place it in the collection basket or drop off at the Rectory Business Office and someone from the prayer quilt ministry will get in touch with you to obtain additional information.
First Saturday Devotions 2017 is the one hundred year anniversary of Our Lady’s
apparitions at Fatima. We invite all parishioners to join in this beautiful devotion of reparation to Our Lady after the 8:15 Mass each First Saturday of the month. In keeping with Our Lady’s request at Fatima, a rosary of reparation will be recited in honor of her Immaculate Heart as we meditate on the mysteries of the rosary. Our devotion takes about 45 minutes. The next First Saturday falls on May 6.

Casserole Ministry Update Visitation Parish’s Casserole Ministry is a year-round
program that helps feed the hungry. Our parishioner volun-teers are given a recipe and casserole tin in order to prepare casseroles in their homes. The baked casseroles are re-turned to the church two weeks later and are delivered to a Chicago soup kitchen and Fenton High School, where half of the families qualify for food assistance.
Here is the schedule for the distribution and collection of casserole tins for the next few months:
Tin Distribution Casserole Collection April 22−23 May 6−7 June 10−11 June 24−25 July 8−9 July 22−23
Thanks again for helping feed those in need. Thanks to your generosity we have been delivering 60-70 casseroles each month! Thanks also to those who have donated Jewel gift cards and cash; both are used to supplement Franciscan Outreach’s food pantry.
We are in need of two volunteers to help out at the 8:15 !.". Mass two times/month. Please call Kathy Best at 630-832-7673 for more information.
The Lord is My Shepherd At this Eastertime let us be joyful as we remember with
thanksgiving all the beautiful graces God bestows on us through the Church, her sacraments and feast days. She guides us in the same manner that Our Lord Jesus shep-herds us. Today we celebrate Jesus as the Good Shepherd. Enter His presence with gladness!
Know that the Lord is God! It is He that made us, and we are His, We are His people, and the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving, And His courts with praise! Give thanks to Him, bless His name! For the Lord is good; His steadfast love endures forever, And His faithfulness to all generations. (Psalm 100) Come and visit Our Lord in the Adoration Chapel.
Allow Him to lead you beside the still waters and restore your soul. Be restored weekly and become a regular ador-er. Many hours need partners. Call Joan Taylor at 630-530-8963 or Mary Lewis at 630-234-4321.

This Weeks Featured CD Can You Trust God?
Since the fall of our first parents, humanity has been tempted to mistrust the love that God the Father has for us. Scripture scholar Dr. Tim Gray takes us on a journey that addresses the pervasive misconceptions that God is quick to anger, that the God of the Old and New Testaments are different, and that God doesn’t have a merciful heart for us. You will see that you can trust our heavenly Father, who is truly one with his Son.

Quote of the Week “Welcome to the table”, is a very biblical, historical, and
traditional Christian, Jewish, and Muslim greeting and wel-come to strangers, travelers, migrants, and refugees. It is not just for food, although some food is important, but it is for conversation and solidarity with the other. We are called by God, to “be not afraid”, and to welcome strangers and “angels” to our table.”
