    NOVEMBER 2, 2012

    Principals Message

Safety FirstWe care deeply for the safety of our students. We have recently encountered someconfusion, on behalf of parents, regarding who to contact after school should a concernabout a childs whereabouts arise. Below is some information

Please make every effort to ensure that your child knows his/her after schoolplans, and that the teacher/school does, as well.

If you need to make a change to your childs after school plans, please do so asearly in the day as possible. If the change does not involve CARE, please callthe school office at 209-8000. The office is open from 7:30-3:30 daily. It is abusy place! If your call is unable to be answered right away, please leave amessage, and it will be picked up as soon as possible.

If the change does involve CARE, please call the CARE main office directlyat 209-7549 . The message will be relayed to the appropriate parties. (Please

note: Should you attempt to call our site CARE office at dismissal time, thephones will go directly to voicemail. Leave a message, and the site manager willpick up the message and respond as soon as all students are safely checked inand accounted for.)

On Early Release days our main office closes at 2:00. If your child participates ina Community Schools class , and there is any uncertainty of their whereaboutson a Tuesday afternoon, please call Brett Shelby, Community Schools ProgramCoordinator, directly at 209-8013 . If he does not answer, please call theCommunity Schools main line at 209-7551 . They will be able to contact himdirectly.

If your child rides the bus , and there is a concern about his/her whereabouts, please contact Durham School Services directly at 615-7864 .

Whats for Breakfast?Mornings can be really crazythe alarm doesnt go offthe kids dont want to getuptheres no time to eat breakfast before the bus comesor theyre just not ready toeat. If this sounds like your house, we have good news for you!

Breakfast will be soon served at Ventana Vista! There are many academic andnutritional benefits to having a healthy breakfast each day. It helps students be more alertso they can learn more in class, and it has vitamins and nutrients for a strong and healthybody.

Breakfast at school is affordable, too! If you qualify for free or reduced price lunch, you

also qualify for the breakfast program, with no additional paperwork. You cant find ahealthy breakfast at such a low cost anywhere else!

Beginning Monday, November 5 , Sodexo will begin to make available a "paper bag"breakfast for students at 7:40 a.m. on the patio outside of the MPR. The cost will be$1.75. For families qualifying for free or reduced lunches, the breakfast will either be atno cost to their child or thirty cents ($.30). Students will eat their breakfast while seatedat a table on the patio. If they do not have enough time to eat, they will be permitted toplace the bagged breakfast in their backpack and save it for a healthy, mid-morningsnack (refrigerators are in classrooms).
