Intro: Background

Organic dyes are used as visual sensors. Human tongue & nose has between dozens and hundreds of

receptors. This inspired to create many artificial sensory that uses multiple

probes. Previous Project: analyzing Metal-Cation.

Research

Created NYT-1 (New York tongue-1); based on 47 off-the shelf dyes.

The use of 47 dyes were determined by their diverse response to various analytes.

Additionally, water is included in the dye plate to check the intrinsic color of analytes.

Project: analyzing water.

Procedure

Transfers the dye from tongue 4.0 to a Well Plate (dye stock plate). Fill a 96 Well Plate with 50 micro liters of distilled water using

multi-tipped pipette. Dip a 96 Tip Pin Dipper in the dye stock plate. Dip that dipper in the Well Plate with 50 micro liter of water. With the dipper on top, run it in centrifuge for 2 minutes at 2000

rpm.

Procedure

Remove the dipper and centrifuge up to 300 rpm. Take a picture of the Well Plate. Use SpectraMax Plus385to analyze the dye plate. Add 10 micro liter of analyte to the dye plate. Take picture of the Well Plate. Use the SpectraMax Plus384 to analyze the plate.

Project Proposal

I want to test:All the river water in New York City (Bronx River, Harlem river, East River, & Hudson River). The tap water for every borough in New York City.Other bodies of water in NYC, such as the bodies of water in Central Park, Jamaica Bay, and so on.
