To communicate through the visual language is important to learn to look, perceive and know its codes and rules. This knowledge will enable us to understand what images transmit.

We can also learn how to made an artistic production and transmit our feelings and ideas by using images.

We all have an inner need to communicate with others. We express ourselves through different languages ; but if we use only the images, we began a communicative process where all the load is centered on the visual aspects. An image becomes message when there is an understanding of it by those who receive it.

Page 6: Visual communication

Thus, through the images we express ourselves and establish relationships with other people. In this communication process all the elements are involved.

The emitting creates the image, which contains the information. When we create an image, we issued a message that provides information; for this we use different visual languages: drawing, photography, painting, sculpture, design ...

Transmitter and receiver establish a communication to share a message

The communication does not occur if there is nobody to receive the information and, therefore, understand the message

Page 7: Visual communication

To understand an image, we need to use the same code, the same visual language.

For example:Traffic rules.

Page 8: Visual communication

It is the physical medium through which we transmit information or message: a canvas, a piece of paper, the press, television, the Internet ...

Page 9: Visual communication

It is the place and time when the message is transmitted, and make the same image have different meanings in different places and times.

In India, white is the color of mourning

In Eastern countries people read and write in the opposite direction to the western countries. This influences the way people interpret the images.
