Director, Center for Sports Concussion at Idaho State University

Founded in 2008 - Present

The Center for Sports Concussion at Idaho State University is housed within the

Department of Sport Science and Physical Education (College of Education). The

purpose of the Center for Sports Concussion is three-fold: (a) to offer educational

outreach on concussion identification and management practices to medical providers,

sport administrators, coaches, athletes and parent groups throughout Idaho in

accordance with Idaho law and demonstrated need, (b) to facilitate baseline and post-

concussion neurocognitive testing (C3 Logix/ImPACT) to athletes participating in

sports programs throughout Eastern Idaho, and (c) to continue the pursuit of research

opportunities in the area of concussion identification and management with the goal of

advancing the public’s knowledge-base on the issues related to sport-related

concussion and the adolescent athlete.

PE 6645 – Curriculum Update to reflect non-practitioners’ approach. Remodeled course

addresses administrative responsibilities involved with supervising sports medicine programs

including legal and ethical concerns, financial issues, and policy driven decision-making.

Recreation and Sports Club program (administered through Portneuf Sports Medicine

Institute). Procured in full, January 2016.

Portneuf Medical Center. Requested ~$500 for printing of quick reference booklets for coaches,

parents, and school teachers/counselors (distributed within E Idaho region). Procured

Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), US Department of Health and Human

Services. Assisted Russell C. Spearman, ISU Institute of Rural Health, in Traumatic

Brain Injury (TBI) State Implementation Partnership Grant Program (H21MC26926).

Grant was awarded in full ($241,630/year for four years; July 2014). The Center for

Sports Concussion will receive up to $6,000 per year to be directed towards printing

costs.

Portneuf Health Care Foundation. Requested $47,362 on behalf of Pocatello-Chubbuck School

District #25 for medical equipment to be utilized by athletic training and sports medicine

staff. Procured in full, June 2014.

Event Coordinator for Rocky Mountain Rumble. September 13, 2008; September 11, 2009.

Coordinated the planning and implementation of the event which featured four of the top high

school football teams from Idaho playing four of the top high school football teams from

other western states (California in 2008 and Utah in 2009). Service responsibilities included

securing more than $20,000+ in sponsorship each year, securing an additional $5,000+ in

college scholarship money to award for game MVPs, marketing and public relations efforts

(including sales of advertising, media coordination and layout of game day program),

assisting Altitude Network with national television broadcast preparation, working with

school sport booster groups to coordinate host pre-game activities (including “A Taste of

Idaho”), game day event direction, and coordinating ISU SSPE student involvement.

President and Founder for Snake River (formerly Pocatello) Triathlon Club. March 2008 –

present. Founded the club in 2008. Recruit financial sponsorships (solicited $4,000+ to date)

and members and coordinate various club events and clinics related to swimming, cycling and

running. Club currently includes more than 70 members.

Race Coordinator for Santa Claws 5K Fun Run. December 2009 -2012. Coordinated

sponsorship activities (generated $6,000+ in local sponsorship) and race logistics. Event

attracted more than 100 racers. 2009 event raised more than $1800 for the ISU Bengal

Foundation and 2010 race raised more than $3,000 for ISU Bengal Foundation.

Race Coordinator for Pocatello Kids Triathlon. September 2008, September 2009 and

September 2010. Coordinate sponsorship efforts (approximately $1000 each year) and race

logistics. Race attracts more than 50 kids annually.

Race Coordinator for Bengal Triathlon. April 2009, April 2010, April 2011 & April 2012.

Coordinate sponsorship ($2000+ each year) and race logistics. Race has grown from 75

athletes to 175 athletes in three years. 2011 race raised $800 for SE Idaho Special Olympics

and $1000 for Tiger Aquatic Club; 2012 race raised $2610 for Idaho Fighters, a group that

benefits SE Idaho families with kids fighting cancer.
