Core network
• The core of the ExCeL network is held in two main equipment rooms, MER01 and MER02
• The ExCeL core devices contain 2 virtual switches (VSS). Each VSS pair bonded together by 2 x 10GB connections, linked between MER01 and MER02
• The core VSS switches are connected together by 4 x 10GB connections

MER02
• There are 37 small equipment rooms (SERs),
supplying connectivity around the venue
• Each SER contains a Catalyst 6500 with dual
Supervisor 32 modules and has dual 10GB
uplinks to one of the Core VSS switches
• All switches have multiple uplinks to neighbour
devices, creating physically resilient high speed
links across the network

The venue cabling infrastructure contains both Cat5e and CAT6 cabling to the floor and single mode and multimode
fibre optic, from the SERs to the MERs. Those SERs supporting the locations that have CAT6 connections, have single
mode fibre back to both MERS. The SERs that support Cat5e locations, have OM2 Multimode fibre, but also have
some single mode fibre optic capacity back to both MERS.
