Primera Lectura: Ezequiel 34: 11-12, 15-17
Esto dice el Señor Dios: “Yo mismo iré a buscar a
mis ovejas y velaré por ellas. Así como un pastor
vela por su rebaño cuando las ovejas se encuentran
dispersas, así velaré yo por mis ovejas e iré por ellas
a todos los lugares por donde se dispersaron un día
de niebla y oscuridad. Yo mismo apacentaré a mis
ovejas, yo mismo las haré reposar, dice el Señor
Dios. Buscaré a la oveja perdida y haré volver a la
descarriada; curaré a la herida, robusteceré a la débil, y a la que
está gorda y fuerte, la cuidaré. Yo las apacentaré con justicia. En

Hermanos: Cristo resucitó, y resucitó como la primicia de todos los

en Adán todos mueren, así en Cristo todos volverán a la vida; pero
cada uno en su orden: primero Cristo, como primicia; después, a la
hora de su advenimiento, los que son de Cristo. Enseguida será la
consumación, cuando, después de haber aniquilado todos los pode-
res del mal, Cristo entregue el Reino a su Padre. Porque él tiene

das ante él todas las naciones, y él apartará a los unos de los otros,
como aparta el pastor a las ovejas de los cabritos, y pondrá a las
ovejas a su derecha y a los cabritos a su izquierda. Entonces dirá el
rey a los de su derecha: ‘Vengan, benditos de mi Padre; tomen
posesión del Reino preparado para ustedes desde la creación del
mundo; porque estuve hambriento y me dieron de comer, sediento
y me dieron de beber, era forastero y me hospedaron, estuve des-
nudo y me vistieron, enfermo y me visitaron, encarcelado y fueron

goats on his left. Then the king will say to those on his right,
'Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom
prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hun-gry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a
stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and
you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’ Then the right-
eous will answer him and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry
and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you
a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did
we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’ And the king will say to
them in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the
least brothers of mine, you did for me.’ Then he will say to those
on his left, 'Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire
prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you
gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, a
stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no
clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.’ Then they

or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your
needs?’ He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you, what you did
not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.’ And

REFLEXION DOMINICAL / SUNDAY REFLECTION
Nuestra cultura La solidaridad con los necesitados a nuestro alrededor es
un rasgo muy característico de la cultura hispana, donde
siempre se guarda pan para quien no tenga, y donde las per-
sonas se movilizan ante cualquier necesidad.
Reflexiones para la homilía La parábola de hoy parece fácil de entender. Estamos en el
momento solemnísimo del juicio final, el momento en que
se valorarán las acciones y se pesará cada acto. La parábola
nos dice que, en ese momento, Dios
nos separará a unos de otros, los bue-
nos y los malos. ¿Quién es quién? Casi
todos al escuchar la parábola no tene-
mos duda en identificar a las ovejas y a
los cabritos. A la derecha serán situa-
das las ovejas, los justos, quienes han
pasado la vida haciendo el bien; mien-
tras que a la izquierda serán situados
los cabritos, es decir, quienes se han
portado mal.
Tampoco nos resulta difícil identificar a los receptores de
las buenas acciones de los buenos y de las malas acciones
de los malos. Jesús lo deja claro: son los más necesitados,
los últimos de la sociedad, los despreciados y dejados de
lado; son los que tienen hambre, los forasteros, los que es-
tán desnudos, los que están enfermos y en la cárcel.
Es interesante observar que los buenos lo son por cómo han
tratado a quienes nadie quiere ni valora; y el rey, Dios mis-
mo, se identifica con ellos; de hecho, no dice que los bue-
nos sean buenos, porque han tratado bien a los pobres, a los
enfermos y a los encarcelados; dice que son buenos, porque
lo han tratado bien a él mismo.
Dios se identifica con los pobres; así lo ha afirmado siempre
la tradición cristiana. Lo que se hace a los pobres se hace a
Dios mismo. Hay que tener buena vista para descubrir en
los pobres, en los últimos, a Dios mismo.
Esta ya es una importante lección y el resumen de todo el
año de aprendizaje de seguimiento de Cristo. Podemos ser
salvados por el modo en que tratemos a Dios mismo en los
pobres, los enfermos y los encarcelados.
Un último detalle… a la hora de identificar a los pobres de
la parábola, nos suele resultar fácil identificarnos con los
pobres que necesitan ayuda, con los buenos que les tratan
bien o con los malos que los dejan de lado; pero debemos
reconocer que, en la práctica, con quien nos identificamos
muchas veces es con el juez. Nos gusta ser jueces de nues-
tro prójimo y determinar quién debería estar a la derecha y
quién a la izquierda, quién es bueno y quién es malo. Nunca
podemos ser jueces de nadie; ese es el lugar de Dios.
Para la reflexión ¿Con qué ojos miramos a los pobres, los necesitados, los
enfermos y los encarcelados? ¿Cuántas veces hemos juz-
gado a nuestro prójimo?
Our Culture
Solidarity with the needy around us is a trait that is very
characteristic of the Hispanic culture, where bread is always
saved for those who have none and where people are mobi-
lized to face any need.
Homily Reflection Today’s parable seems easy to understand. We are in the
extremely solemn moment of the final judgment, the mo-
ment in which actions will be valued
and every act measured. The parable
tells us that, in that moment, God will
separate us from each other, the good
and the evil. Who is who? Almost all
of us listening to the parable have no
doubt in identifying the sheep from the
goats. The sheep, the righteous, those
who have spent their life doing good
will be situated on the right; while the
goats, those who behaved badly, will
be situated on the left.
It is also not difficult for us to identify the receivers of the
good actions of the righteous and the bad actions of the evil
ones. Jesus makes it clear: it is the needy, those on the bot-
tom scale of society, the rejected and pushed aside; it is the
hungry, the strangers, those who have no clothes, the sick,
and the imprisoned.
It is interesting to note that the good ones are good because
of how they have treated those that no one wants or values;
and the King, God himself, identifies with them. In fact, he
does not say that the good ones are good because they have
treated the poor, the sick and the imprisoned well; he says
the righteous have treated him well.
God identifies with the poor; it is how the Christian tradi-
tion has always affirmed it. What is done to the poor is done
to God himself. One must have really good eyesight to see
God himself in the poor, in those who are at the bottom.
This is an important lesson and the summary of the entire
year of learning the discipleship of Christ. We can be saved
by the manner in which we treat God himself in the poor,
the sick, and the imprisoned.
One final detail… at the time of identifying the poor in the
parable, it is usually easy for us to identify ourselves with
the poor who needs help, with the good ones that treat them
well, or with the evil that push them aside; but we must rec-
ognize that, in the practice, with whom we identify many
times is with the judge. We like to be judges of our neighbor
and determine who should be on the right and who should
go to the left, who is righteous and who is evil. We must
never be anyone’s judge; that is God’s place.
For Reflection How do we see the poor, the needy, the sick, and the im-
prisoned? How many times have we judged our neighbor?

La celebración de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Rey del Univer-so, cierra el Año Litúrgico en el que se ha meditado sobre todo el misterio de su vida, su predicación y el anuncio del Reino de Dios. El Papa Pio XI, el 11 de diciembre de 1925, instituyó esta solemnidad que cierra el tiempo ordinario. Su objetivo es recordar la soberanía universal de Jesucristo. Lo confesa-mos supremo Señor del cielo y de la tierra, de la Iglesia y de nuestras almas. Durante el anuncio del Reino, Jesús nos muestra lo que éste significa para nosotros como Salvación, Revelación y Reconciliación ante la mentira mortal del pecado que existe en el mundo. Jesús respon-de a Pilatos cuando le pregunta si en verdad Él es el Rey de los judíos: "Mi Reino no es de este mundo. Si mi Reino fuese de este mundo mi gente habría combatido para que no fuese entregado a los judíos; pero mi Reino no es de aquí" (Jn 18, 36). Jesús no es el Rey de un mundo de miedo, mentira y pecado, Él es el Rey del Reino de Dios que trae y al que nos conduce. Cristo Rey anuncia la Verdad y esa Verdad es la luz que ilumina el ca-mino amoroso que Él ha trazado, con su Vía Crucis, el camino hacia el Reino de Dios. "Sí, como dices, soy Rey. Yo para esto he nacido y para esto he venido al mundo: para dar testimonio de la verdad. Todo el que es de la verdad escucha mi voz."(Jn 18, 37) Jesús nos reve-la su misión reconciliadora de anunciar la verdad ante el engaño del pecado. Esta fiesta celebra a Cristo como el Rey bondadoso y sencillo que como pastor guía a su Iglesia peregrina hacia el Reino Celestial y le otorga la comunión con este Reino para que pueda transformar el mun-do en el cual peregrina. La posibilidad de alcanzar el Reino de Dios fue establecida por Jesucristo, al dejarnos el Espíritu Santo que nos conce-de las gracias necesarias para lograr la Santidad y transformar el mundo en el amor. Ésa es la misión que le dejó Jesús a la Iglesia al establecer su Reino. Se puede pensar que solo se llegará al Reino de Dios luego de pasar por la muerte pero la verdad es que el Reino ya está instalado en el mundo a través de la Iglesia que peregrina al Reino Celestial. Justamen-te con la obra de Jesucristo, las dos realidades de la Iglesia -peregrina y celestial- se enlazan de manera definitiva, y así se fortalece el peregrina-je con la oración de los peregrinos y la gracia que reciben por medio de los sacramentos. "Todo el que es de la verdad escucha mi voz."(Jn 18, 37) Todos los que se encuentran con el Señor, escuchan su llamado a la Santidad y emprenden ese camino se convierten en miembros del Reino
Christ the King
The solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Uni-verse, brings the liturgical year to a dramatic conclusion. This Solemnity is of relatively recent origin. In fact, it was not declared a feast until 1925, during the reign of Pope Pius XI. We might wonder why a Pope would go to the trouble of instituting such a Solemnity in the twentieth cen-tury--at a time when kings and monarchies were rapidly collapsing. We could ask: Is the solemnity of Christ the King not anachronistic? When placed in its historic context, however, the meaning
of this feast becomes powerfully evident. Consider what was happening in 1925 when Pius XI instituted the feast of Christ the King. World War I had ended just a few years earlier--a war that shook Europe to its foun-dations. Nothing would ever be the same again. The boundaries of Eu-rope had been redrawn. Massive political upheavals had occurred. Most of the kings and queens of Europe had disappeared or had been de-prived of their power. But then in 1925, just when almost all the kings were gone, Pope Pius XI decided to inaugurate a feast calling Christ the "King." This gesture to some might seems meaningless, but, in fact, it shows the imaginative genius of Pius XI. For the Solemnity of Christ the King de-clares the endurance of God's power, the permanence of God's plan over the comings and goings of all human regimes. The feast is then a great statement of faith in God's unending power and of hope in God's irrevocable promises. Christ alone is the security of world. Christ the King states that we are not born for thirty or sixty or ninety years, then to fade away into nothingness; we are born for eternity The value we have is not just the value we can make for ourselves in an un-reliable world, but the value we are given by a God who never fails. When we come to worship, we stand already in the other world of the Kingdom of God, the Kingdom that will never pass away. The liturgy foreshadows the Kingdom of God and already gives us a foretaste of it. The whole purpose of the church's ministry is to make us into good citizens of the Kingdom. And the task for which we are sent forth from our worship to be living signs in our ordinary world, as best we can, of the new creation. As we end the liturgical year, we are invited to consider the truth that though kings and empires, republics and presidents, dictators and tyran-nies come and go, the reign of Christ, the Son of God is eternal, everlast-ing, without end. Though we may often be frightened in heart, insecure in spirit, anxious in mind, God’s sure hand will uphold us at the end of life, at the end of the world.
