2015ViZYON ISSUE: 9 2015 ViZYONISSUE: 9

C eyhun Özcangaz, born in 1971, is married with two children. His father was a military man and he has lived in many cities of the

country as a child. Özcangaz says he had to change two elementary, two middle and two high schools due to his father’s service and continues: “I had troubles due to the varying levels of education at all these schools but I went to ITU Mechanical Engineering in 1989, I was graduated in 4 years and then I completed my military service.” He talks about his career until DAS as follows: “I started my career at Borusan in January 1995; until my leave in 2009, I worked as Spare Parts and Service Sales Agent for Caterpillar equipment, Machinery Sales Agent, Lean Six Sigma Project Manager (Black Belt) and Spare Parts Assistant Manager. Then I held the position of Modernization and Service Sales Manager at ThyssenKrupp and Sales Manager at Sarmak; a year ago, in February 2014, I started working as the Spare Parts Sales and Marketing Manager at Das Otomotiv.”

Das is close to the customer Özcangaz says that he decided to work for DAS when he met Mr. Orçun and was impressed by his vision, and continues: “DAS did strike me as a well-organized company from the start; they have a different point of view, you can immediately notice the innovative and perfectionist approach, leaders have vision and this provides an edge in competition. I think that what makes DAS different from its competitors are that it is highly customer-focused and stands close to its customers, this means added value for the customer in everything we do and increased customer satisfaction and loyalty which translate to achievements for DAS. We are very close to the customers, we understand their needs and provide solutions accordingly. While doing this, we run a good cooperation and communication with Terex and other brands we represent. “ He continued: “DAS makes a difference also with the training provided for its employees. In January, we sent 3 sales representatives to Gosan training at Bilbao, Spain. This 3-day training was on Gosan products providing a detailed review and our colleagues came back with a good apprehension of this information. In December 2014, JLG provided a 2-day training for Spare Parts Sales Representatives.”

We will reach our goalsÖzcangaz stated that 2014-2015 spare parts sales targets were reached after a challenging year and continued: “We now represent more brands and post-sales services have to be fast and error-free for a continued customer satisfaction. If you sell machinery in a region, you have to provide a complete set of spare parts and services; in this sense, spare parts processes regarding our new brands JLG and Terex Construction were synchronized with DAS processes and spare parts stocks were created in the relevant regions. The management set challenging spare parts targets for 2015 but we have every confidence that we will meet the targets in 2015, like we did in 2014.”

Perfectionist in business lifeÖzcangaz thinks of himself as a thorough and perfectionist employee and continues: “To overcome the obstacles, we have to be steady and determined, if we are determined and motivated, there is nothing we cannot do.”

“2015 will be better”

Technical and hands-on training at Bos ShelfCrane operating and safety training was provided at Bos Shelf’s Baku site

where 6 Terex A600-1 cranes and 3 Terex RT100 cranes are in operation

1 0-14 November 2014 was the date of the initial five-day training and 12 crane operators were trained on operating the

cranes. Each operator was individually provided with hands-on training on the cranes. The training also included safety issues regarding the use of cranes.

At the two-day training on 15-16 November, 12 technicians and maintenance chiefs were provided with technical training on Terex A600-1 cranes. Visual and audio technical training was provided at

the company’s premises using projectors. The following issues were handled: Hydraulic

system, pneumatic system, electric system, load safety system, general structure of the chassis, engine and transmission, feet, steering, boom in-clination function, boom telescopic system, tower rotation and drum system.

Implementation in practiceOn the final day of training on 17 November, 12 technicians and maintenance chiefs were provided

with technical training on Terex RT100 cranes. Visual and audio technical training was provided at the company’s premises using projectors. The same topics with A600-1 were handled for Terex RT100. Furthermore, the differences between the two cranes were explained.

Das Otomotiv Service Engineer İhsan Dalgıç said that hands-on troubleshooting practices were per-formed on cranes after the technical training, the personnel were tested and continued: “I congratu-late them for their achievements.”

Y apın İnşaat’s owner Nusret Karaalioğlu says that the company has operated in steel manufacturing and installation

business in Turkey for 45 years. Karaalioğlu adds that they are now engaged in new projects and continues on their choice of crane: “We reviewed and compared the offers by many companies in the crane market. We were also considering equipment from Germany, but we were impressed

by the close attention of DAS Otomotiv’s sales and marketing teams, their presentation and their close attention; we also had the change of seeing the equipment on site and so we chose TEREX.”

On-site trainingKaraalioğlu said that they did not have any specific requests regarding manufacturing and continued: “When we saw the equipment, there was no jib Boom and we requested it and it was provided in a short time. The equipment was delivered to our address. We then requested training for our crane operators. It was provided just after the delivery. The major area of use for the crane will be steel installation

works. We will also lease them. As our business grows, we will expand our equipment fleet and we hope to work with you again. I am grateful to DAS Otomotiv’s owners, sales and marketing teams for their attention.”

Das Otomotiv goes beyond the borders in hard-to-reach regions. Das Otomotiv Service Engineer Metin Kandemir provided operator training for commissioning and load tests of 2 Quadstar 1075L cranes in Vietnam

DAS Service Team in Vietnam

D AS Otomotiv con-tinues to provide services in hard-to-

reach regions of the world. As requested by Terex’s plant in Italy from the sole service partner of Terex, Service Engineer Metin Kandemir provided operator training for commissioning and load tests of 2 Quadstar 1075L cranes in Vietnam. Kandemir reached Ho Chi Minh City after a 12-hour flight and then went to Vung Tau with a 2-hour drive.

Kandemir stayed in the city for 9 days and provided technical and maintenance training for the operators for 2 days in class and 2 days on the crane. After commissioning, static and dynamic load tests were performed for the cranes. Dynamic test was performed by 1.1 times the maximum load (with 360 degrees swing) and static load test was per-formed with 1.25 times the maximum load.

continues to expand its mobile crane fleet for local projects and requests from neighboring countries. The company recently expanded its equipment fleet with a Terex AC160-2 all terrain crane. Aydın Fatah, company shareholder, explains the crane purchasing process as follows: “We purchased the Terex AC160-2 all-terrain crane because our re-search revealed that its technical specifications and

performance were better compared to other cranes of the same class. Our choice was also effected by DAS Otomotiv’s ease of supply and high-quality services.”

Investments will continueFatah informed that they ordered the refinery kit and additional boom along with the crane and they were delivered to the site; he also mentioned that there were no problems regarding the planning and completion of the delivery process and a 3-day

training was provided for the personnel. Fatah explained that the purpose of this investment was to extent the crane fleet, that the crane would be used for monthly and annual local and internation-al projects and daily works and continued: “Based on the projects, we will continue to expand our machinery pool and make new investments. In this process, we will continue to work with DAS Oto for supply and maintenance. We were pleased to work with DAS Otomotiv and we hope this cooperation will continue.”

D AS Otomotiv Service and Spare Parts team continues training to provide better services for customers. Recently, İlhami

Şentürk, Merih Şimşirdağ and Hakan Özgül from Spare Parts sales team went to Bilbao, Spain to the Spanish manufacturer Gosan, a manufacturer of bobbins, hook block and metal track wheels with

global norms and standards. The brand is certified with various quality certificates and documents and is now distributed by DAS Otomotiv. The team had a warm welcome by Gosan’s General Manager Javier Estaban. The team was provided with detailed information on parts manufactured by Gosan from Eider Areta from Gosan S.A. Marketing Department, Technical Manager

Raul Carrasco and Quality Manager Amaia Ontoria Varela. The 2 day training focused in detail on various manufacturing methods of rollers based on use, varying number of rollers for mobile, crawler and tower cranes, hook blocks manufactured with the required dimensions and tonnage and other products used on mobile platforms in various industries.

Das Otomotiv Sales and Leasing Manager İnci Aygut has been work-

ing for this department since 2012. Aygut is an Electronics Engineer and spent 4 years in the imports department and another 4 years in the leasing department of a large company before Das. She then took a maternity leave and started to work for Das. She thinks about her new company as follows: “To compare Das with my former employer, I can clearly say that this is a warmer place. I feel valued here. Equipment leasing started one month before I was employed by Das; so I was here almost from the beginning and it was easy for me to adapt. I was by myself at the office side of leasing business, responsible for invoicing, filing and communication with customers.I arrive at the office early, from a distant neighborhood of Istanbul.”

“I feel lucky”Aygut says that she feels lucky to be working for Das and the business in her department continually grows. She thinks as follows about the future of platform leasing business: “We lease platforms; they are not widely used in Turkey but we expect a significant increase with the new occupational safety regulations. When I started, Das had 12 machines and now, we have a lot more. Our customers are large-scaled companies. Leasing will in-crease; global percentage is 90% but in Tur-key this is only 10%, so there is a huge poten-tial. This business of Das with large companies creates a potential for us. Leasing is a better option because you don’t have to think about maintenance, insurance or transportation; we intervene any failure in 24 hours and prevent loss of work, if you had your own equipment, such losses until repair would be inevitable. Just like car leasers which provide replacement cars until a failed car is repaired, you still will have a vehicle; but if it is your vehicle and it takes a few days to repair, you will be without a vehicle. We always support our machinery in terms of maintenance.”

I feel valued here

All-time biggest order arrives at the port

12 of 24 Terex RTGs ordered by ASYAPORT

Liman A.Ş. from DAS PortEquipment were

delivered following a 45-day installation

D as team and a team of 11 technicians from China worked for 45 days to deliver 12 Terex Noell

RTG cranes with a total lifting capacity of 45 tons in an operating condition. Fully-electrical cranes with a height of 6+1 floors capable of stacking containers at 7+1 vertical distance with a capacity of 40 tons were loaded on two ships in China, six on each vessel, and the ships arrived at Asyaport Tekirdağ on 18th and 24th of November. The equipment was unloaded and legshift was performed. 6 cranes were installed in approximately 30 days with various processes completed simultaneously.

Purchases will continueDas Port Equipment Manager Hakan Aktan said that the workload was huge due to the two ships arriving in 6 days apart but but the cranes were delivered in due time and continued: “Asyaport is not in operation as of now but when it is, the RTGs will operate 24 hours a day; they were tested accordingly with zero failure. Third and fourth batches will be arriving in April and May on two ships with six

cranes each to Asyaport. The company plans to purchase 9 more RTGs after the 24-crane batch is fully delivered. 26 staff members were assigned for installation. 11 technicians from the Terex plant were also involved. We were supported by local technicians to bring the team to 26. The installation of 12 RTGs was completed from 18th to 30th of December, which is a relatively short time for such a job. Technical training will be provided after the delivery of third and fourth batches.”

One of the best port cranesAktan mentioned that the customer’s choice of Terex and Das was driven by the price advantage and the fact that Terex purchased Noell, a well-known brand and continued: “In 2000, Noell was purchased by Fantuzzi due to economic problems and due to the same problems regarding Fantuzzi, Terex purchased Fantuzzi and Noell in 2009. Noell is a very well known RTG brand and but the essential factor in this sale was that Das was involved. The customer made the contract with Terex but I think this sale may have not been made if Das was not involved.”

Göttlicher explained the users that their comments were important and these feedbacks were used in the manufacturing process. As Scania engines were used in the new models, Scania Sales and Service Director Jöng Franzke also gave a presentation. Franzke informed that Scania had a large and effective service network in Turkey and there are no problems regarding their services.

Single engine technologyThe Explorer 5500 (130 tons), Explorer 5600 (160 Tons) and Explorer 5800 (220 Tons) were introduced at the event. A shared feature of these cranes is that were manufactured with a single engine concept. All three models use Scania DC13-Industrial Version engines. Single-engine technology provides significant fuel savings. The revolution is high when the crane is in motion and low when it is in operation. Shutdown time for maintenance also decreases and this is another advantage. Explorer 5500 has a capacity of 130 tons, 394-mt moment, 60-meter main boom length and Explorer 5600 has a capacity of 160 tons, 480-meter moment and 68 meter main boom length. Another version in the series, Explorer 5800, has a capacity of 220 tons, 660-meter moment, 70-meter main boom length.

Compact sizeAnother feature of the new cranes is that all of them have the most compact sizes in their class. Explorer 5500 is 143.3 meter long and only 2.75-meter wide. Chassis length is 12.1 meters and boom extraction is 1.50 meters. This version is very effective in urban works and provides many benefits for the user. Other shared features of the new series are ABS, exhaust brake and retarder as well as dynamic start control of the new brake system which prevents the crane from slipping back during initial movement. It is driven by axes 1, 2, 4 and 5 and steered from all axes.

Single engine concept appreciatedThe representatives mentioned the single engine technology, compact size and safety elements as the most impressive features after the presentations and plant tour. Kırımlı Vinç Manager Resul Kırımlı said that these new technologies will provide easier use for the operator and compact size will provide significant advantages for urban use. Kırımlı also mentioned the single engine concept as another benefit. Gençler Vinç Manager Metin Balcı said that the technology of the equipment was impressive. Balcı said that training the operators on the new cranes was also important and added: “These cranes are very suitable for urban operation, especially with such compact sizes. Our main area of operation is urban construction and I can say that these cranes are exactly for us.”

This equipment is a money earnerSalim Vinç Manager Mustafa Salim acknowledged his thanks to DAS Otomotiv for the event, said that the technology of new series cranes was impressive and added: “Terex continually improves its products. I think that the most important feature of these cranes is the compact size. Explorer 5600’s 68-meter boom distance is an extremely useful function for us. It is especially suited for urban use, but it can be used on rough-terrain too. In short, we will earn from these cranes.”

Suitable for construction companiesAlarko Equipment and Transportation Coordinator Turhan Tecimer said that the new features and highlight on safety makes the cranes easier to use and this is provided by advanced technology. Tecimer added that companies always introduce improvements, accessories and attachments and some of them are now standard rather that optional and added: “Terex always improves its technology.” Köksal Ergitürk from Doğuş İnşaat said: “These cranes are very good. Terex is a leading company in this industry. Users trust them based their history. These cranes have improvements regarding fuel systems and fuel savings, as required by recent conditions. They are also operator-friendly. Safety was considered. A very important recent issue is fuel savings.

Manufacturers which work on this issue achieve success, Terex is one of them.” Gökhan Yıldız from Yenigün İnşaat said that the most impressive feature was the single engine concept. Yıldız added that this was very important especially for construction companies and continued: “There is a single engine and it consumes less fuel in low revolution. This also decreases maintenance costs. Maintenance time decreases and this adds to availability. Another impressive feature is the disengagement of the transmission by pressing a button in case of failure. This is vital because when an automatic-transmission vehicle fails, you have to disengage it manually to tow; this feature prevents it.”

Challenging equipmentCoşkun Vinç Manager Servet Coşkun said that he liked the new equipment and continued: “Jib booms and other attachments can be used on all three cranes, this is a significant advantage. The technology is advanced. Especially the 160-ton crane is 2.75-meter wide and this is impressive.” Saral Vinç Manager Suat Saral said that he was impressed by the cranes and the manufacturing line and continued: “Cranes are improved. Advanced technology is involved, now we have to see them on site.” Sistem Vinç Manager Kemal Akınlı mentioned the lower fuel consumption of the new series and added: “Boom length

is increased, this is a significant advantage. Terex is the leader in 200-220-ton segment in terms of boom length. Technical specifications are improved and I think the new design is quite good. These features will provide many advantages.”

New design appreciatedEren Yıldıztekin from CKV acknowledged his thanks to Das Otomotiv for the event and coming together with manufacturers and crane leasers was quite useful for them. Yıldıztekin said that he liked the design of all three new-gen cranes and added: “Single-engine concept is impressive. This will ensure fuel savings and decrease maintenance costs. These are important for us. Another advantage is the increased boom length.” Aydın Vinç Manager Bekir Aydın was also impressed by the improvements. Aydın said that the fuel savings by the single-engine concept were obvious and the new cranes are compact and agile; he continued: “Technology is advanced. Now Scania engines are used. Scania is a good engine. What I want to mention is that the computer screen is operational when the engine is stopped. Operators do not stop the cranes because the screen is deactivated. So the cranes run in idle and this increases the costs. This feature alone will increase the useful life of the engine. Lower power consumption by the engine when the cabin is active is also good.”

Security element highlightedVinç-Der Chairman and Kardeşler Vinç manager Ramazan Midilli mentioned the safety elements. Midilli said that the technology of new cranes decreased the intervention of the operator and this added to safety; he continued: “The cranes have high standards and automatic safety elements. These will decrease the occupational health and safety risks in Turkey. These cranes will add value to the companies.” Ertuğrul Işıksoy from Alpler Vinç said that it was an efficient trip and added: “We saw the manufacturing plant of an industry leader. Terex is the best manufacturer to utilize from technology. The products are easy to use. Highly-adapted technology has its advantages for the user. They are at a high level in terms of quality and safety. I want to express that Terex is lucky to have Das Otomotiv as its distributor.”

Aydıntaş A.Ş. expands its fleet with Terex AC160 and AC250Aydıntaş Manager Hamza Aydın, upon recently purchasing Terex AC160-2 and AC250-1 all-terrain cranes, says that

customer demands require new investments and they continually modernize their equipment and technology

What can you say about your company? Aydıntaş A.Ş. was incorporated in Bursa in 1987. Bursa is an industrial area and this helped us grow. We started with old mobile cranes, truck and hiap cranes and opened Bandırma branch in 1995 and Gebze/Dilovası branch in 2000; now we are involved in many projects in Turkey with mobile cranes, crawler cranes, port cranes, forklifts, heavy transport and heavy lifting systems. We opened our Iraq/Erbil branch in 2014 and we are quite active in this region.

You recently added Terex AC160 and AC250 all-terrain cranes to your equipment pool; what kind of research did you make? What drove you to your choice of model and DAS Otomotiv? We have been operating in this industry for more than 30 years. We are quite experienced users.

This is a significant factor of our decision-making process. Demag is a reliable brand, not only for us but also for other actors of the industry. They continually improve these technological toys and make them better with each new model. As for Das Otomotiv, Das Otomotiv, it is an intercontinental company providing high-quality services. Fast response and uninterrupted attention is satisfying for us.

Did you have any options or specific requests regarding the manufacture of cranes? We purchased 2 2015 mobile cranes from Terex through Das Otomotiv. AC 160-2 and AC 250-1. These were manufactured, ready for sale. We reviewed them technically and decided that they were sufficient for us. They had full features.

What can you say about the delivery process? Did you request any training for your personnel? Customs and other processes sometimes make delivery a long process. We want to market and operate the cranes as soon as possible. After all, these are purchased on loan. So they have to operate as soon as possible.

What is the purpose of this investment? What do you use the crane for?As it is known, there is a huge business potential in Turkey. Sometimes it is hard to meet the demand. The objective is to extend and renew our equipment pool. We provide services in many

industries including energy, steel, refineries, cement plants, shipyards, ports etc.

Will Aydıntaş continue to invest in its equipment pool? Would you be willing to work with DAS Otomotiv again? Everyone from the industry knows that there is no end to this business. Customer demands make you purchase new equipment and make new investments. We will continue to take the steps necessary to achieve our goals. Das Otomotiv will continue to be our guide.

Rotary excavators assembled by Terex CC 2400-1

S 325 Herrenkenct and S2 Lovat TBMs were successfully assembled by Sistem Vinç, who installed the TBM components

ranging from 20 tons to 140 tons in weight (drill head, main drive, mid tail shield, spiral, msv, bridge, gantry etc.) using a Terex CC2400-1 crawler crane. The project included loading of components manufactured at Yeni Mahalle Station area to low-beds, transport to the assembly site and unloading to the assembly site with a Terex CC2400-1 crawler crane.

SSL 42 m configurationSistem Vinç made a cautious choice of personnel and equipment. Sistem Vinç organized 14 per-sonnel for the project at the project site including engineers, operators, assistant operators and drivers. Sistem Vinç also used a large equipment pool including a Terex CC 2400-1 crawler crane, 500 ton-capacity Demag AC 1600 telescopic mobile crane and 300 ton-capacity Demag AC 300 telescopic mobile crane. The most important part of the project was lifting the 140-ton TBM components from the ground and lowering them to the assembly site below zero level. Sistem Vinç use a Terex CC 2400-1 crawler crane as the main crane for this task of the project and SSL – 42 meter boom configuration was selected based on the research. Assembly took 3 days and Sistem Vinç experts started installation after assembly and periodic controls. After 1 month of lowering and assembly works, Terex CC 2400-1 crawler crane was disassembled using auxiliary cranes in 3 days. The task included lowering of huge components and Sistem Vinç experts made a ground research on the site where Terex CC 2400-1 crawler crane was to be located and organized and strengthened the site as necessary. TBM components were very heavy and they were to be lowered under zero level and therefore all details were reviewed by Sistem Vinç engineers to make a decision on the crane configuration and location based on detailed calculations. Sistem Vinç had the serious disadvantage of working on a busy location of Istanbul but the TBM were finally transported and installed.
