VLADIMIR NABUKOV(22 April 1899- 2 July 1977)

Was born in Saint Petersburg in a family of the minor nobility

The family spoke Russian, English and French in their household, so Nabukov was trilingual from an early age

Emigrated with his family to Berlin, but when World War II started, emigrated with his wife in America

Wrote his first nine novels in Russian

He also made contributions to etomology.

After the great financial success of “Lolita”, Nabukov was able to return to Europe

He established himself in Montreux with his family and dedicated himself to writing

He moved and stayed at the Palace Hotel with his wife until his death on 2 July 1977.

At the time of his death he was working on his novel titled “The original Laura”

His wife Vera and son Dmitri were entrusted with Nabokov's literary executorship and though he asked them to burn the manuscript, they chose not to destroy his final work.
