1. Purpose
The Blue Medora VMware vRealize Operations (vROps) Management Pack for Nimble Storage User Guide describes the primary features of the Management Pack for Nimble Storage, including dashboards, views, reports, metrics, and alerts that allow users to optimize the monitoring and management of Nimble Storage resources from within vRealize Operations.
2. Introduction to the Management Pack
The Management Pack for Nimble Storage is an embedded adapter for vRealize Operations (vROps) that monitors Nimble Storage remotely. The Management Pack retrieves data regarding Nimble Storage resources by connecting to each supported Nimble Storage device.
This section includes the following topics:• How the Management Pack Collects Data• Data the Management Pack Collects
2.1 How the Management Pack Collects DataDuring each data collection cycle, the Management Pack opens a REST API (and SNMP v2, if collecting group performance data) connection to the configured Nimble Storage device and queries it to retrieve metrics regarding Nimble resources.
The collection interval for the adapter instance resource determines how often the Management Pack collects data. The default collection interval is five minutes.
The Management Pack supports Autodiscovery and manual discovery of resources. When you enable Autodiscovery for an adapter instance, the Management Pack creates resources in vRealize Operations and collects data after the main collection query runs. If a new resource belongs to a resource kind that does not exist in vROps, the Management Pack creates the resource kind.
2.2 Data the Management Pack CollectsThe Management Pack can collect performance data, relationships (associations), and events for the following Nimble Storage resources:1. Nimble Group2. Nimble Array3. Nimble Volume4. Nimble Volume Collection5. Nimble Folder (Nimble OS 3.0 only)6. Nimble Pool7. Nimble User (disabled by default, enabled via configuration option)8. Degraded Network
The attempt to update the array software has failed a Network Pre-Check condition. Prior to allowing the update to proceed, the array checks to ensure physical network interface pairs on both controllers are connected to the same IP subnet so that connectivity to the array does not degrade when the array fails over to the standby controller.
Degraded Network
Please check that all the network ports on the controller are plugged into the same subnet as their counterpart on the other controller. For example, eth1 on both controllers are connected to the same subnet. Once the network connectivity has been corrected, proceed with updating the array software. Invalid snapshot serial number detected
Nimble Storage has detected snapshots with duplicate serial numbers. This matter is being tracked and worked under bug 58736. Creating and deleting an extremely large number of snapshots may lead to the same SCSI serial number for two snapshots. This can lead to the iSCSI initiator using an incorrect snapshot.
Invalid snapshot serial number detected
Workaround: Please upgrade your array after deleting all snapshots with a duplicate serial number. Simply deleting will not resolve this issue. If you do not upgrade, snapshots with a duplicate serial number may re-occur. Fix: Bug 58736 is fixed in Nimble OS 2.1.7.0 and 2.2.3.0 or later. Please be aware that you cannot upgrade to either of those version if snapshots with duplicate serial numbers are still present on your array. This case will be automatically closed. If you have any questions or would like assistance in clearing up larger amounts of duplicate snapshots, please reply to this email to re-open this case and a Technical Support Engineer will reach out to you. System temperature high
Temperature sensor detects critically high temperatures. This is indicative of a cooling or air flow problem which could lead the array shutting down.
System temperature high
If the alert corresponds to a controller replacement, reboot or failover of the array the temperature decrease once the array returns to active standby. If the alert was caused by a momentary elevation in the environment there is no need for further action, and you do not need to respond to this notification. If the array is running Nimble OS 2.2.9 or 2.3.6, the array software should be updated to obtain an updated thermal policy for your array. If the temperature remains elevated then the environment where the array is installed should be reviewed. Nimble Storage Support is available 24x7 by telephone and email.
