• Bro Sam Ques: why wont we have the gifts of the Spirit without the fruits. Even most of us

speak in tongues when we were baptised with the Holy Spirit?

• Galatians 5:16-26 & Colossians 3:1-16

• In these text, Bro Paul depicts two contrasting conditions-carnality and spirituality

• Carnality is the life of sin, spirituality is the life of (holy Spirit) seed bearing

• The more we bear fruits, the quicker we become like Christ

• And then, the more effective will the gifts of the Spirit be in edifying the Church

• How will a tongue speaking brother edify you if he lives in hatred and lack self control?

Purpose of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit

• For edification of the body of Christ • For personal profit • For collective or individual evangelism to produce the

desired results • Ephesians 4:2, I corinthians 12:6-7, I corinthians 14:12, • Who needs the gifts? • Every loving Christian who seeks to perform his/her

role ministry in the body of Christ without ENVY for the gifts of other Christians

The revelation gifts of the Holy Spirit • A. The word of wisdom

– A supernatural gifting that reveals the mind, purpose, and the way of God to a pariticular situation

• To expressly acquire this gift, delight in studying and applying the word of God. Col 3:16

The Lord Jesus: Matthew 22: 15-22, John 8.4-9

the early church in Acts 6:1-7

Solomon: I kings 3: 16-28

• Needed during times of persecution: Luke 21:12-15

• This gift is not manifested until the wisdom is expresed in words.....So it requires love

for you to express this gift

• It is completely different from worldly or book wisdom- see James 3:14-18


B.Word of Knowledge

• Supernatural ability to understand the truth concerning certain situations as it pleases the Holy Spirit.

• Revealed information for a dire need within the body of Christ.

• Often revealed in visions, dreams or trance • Case study • Jesus in Matthew 8:5-8 • Joshua in Joshua 7 • Samuel in I Samuel 9:20 • Elisha in II Kings 6:8-12 • So powerful that it can uncover the plots of one‘s enemies,

crimes, thefts, special information


C. Discerning of Spirits

• Detecting the true spirit behind the acts and manifestations taking place around us through the prompting and directive of the Holy Spirit

• What it is not? – Mind reading – Soul travel

• Quite important in the last days of satanic lies and deceit. See 1Jn 4:1, I Tim 4:1-2,Thess 2:9-12

• Needed in church to shield young believers from falling prey of deceit. See 16:16-18, Mt 16:15-17,22-23

A. The Gift of Diverse Tongues

• Main Reading: I corinthians 14

• What it is : • A supernatural utterance from a christian through the

Holy Spirit

• Divine means of deep communication with God using spiritual languages. I cor 14.2

• Prophesied by Jesus : Mark 16:17

• Expressed tongues are often times diffcult to comprehend with human wisdom

• Manifests during Holy Spirit baptism;but not a gift until it is permanently and consistently used. Acts 2:4


A. The Gift of Diverse Tongues

• What it is not:

• it is not a learned language like learned German, Spanish or English


A. The Gift of Interpretation of Tongues

• helps to interprete the message contained in spoken spiritual tongues

• Note: interpretation is not a word-for-word interpretation, since spoken tongues are unintelligble

• Hence, interpretation depends on the spiritual level of the interpreter

• Just like spoken tongues, interpretation is a function of the interpreter spirit and not mind

• The interpreter does not understand the spoken tongues by himself, but by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit

C. The Gifts of Prophecy

• Prophecy simply means revealed word of God about the future

• Word of knowledge with action plan!!!!! – Prophet Agabus: Acts 11:27-29 vs Acts 21:8-14

• Operated by Spirit filled christians: 2Peter 1:21

• An important tool for edifying, comforting and exhorting people.I cor 14:3

• Edifiying-to build up or charge up

• Comforting- to sheer up or console

• Exhorting- to warm or advise


C. The Gifts of Prophecy

• The Prophecy is sometimes subjected to the faith of the one prophesying : I cor 14:32, Romans 12:6

• Faith and knowledge of the word of God are paramount for operating in this gift

• All prophecies need to be screened with the gift of discerning of spirit to ascertain their source.I cor 14:24-25

• Why?- Because of the danger of apostaste, backslidden prophets
