13), confessional schools - reading, writing, calculating and strict education in ethics and discipline

• Development of higher education for sons of aristocracy (needed as civil servants)

1871 „Abitur“ extended to all of Germany

1872 separate secondary schools for girls

First women in teaching profession

Young women are allowed to

• pass the Abitur (1908)

• go to university (1910)

• 4 years of primary school

• or entry into higher or middle education

• long discussion about comprehensive schools failed

• 1968: comprehensive school became additional part of the German secondary education (4 different types of secondary education, classes 5-10)
