Voices Concert Choir is a mixed female and male choir of about 45 singers in total, singing four vocal

articulations: Ah, Oh, La, Mm. The singers are arranged in the typical ‘SATB’ format (Soprano,

Alto, Tenor, Bass). The voices that are most useful in normal playing are the ones starting with

the letters ‘SATB’. In these voices, the different sections of the choir are mapped across the

keyboard, giving you a full and rich ensemble of the whole choir, with each section singing in its

typical range.

There are also ‘individual section’ voices in which the separate SATB sections sound in their

typical range. These voices are really designed for use with the sequencer, if you wanted to (for

example) record some hymns which are arranged as SATB. There is a little ‘overlap’ at the

extremes of the ranges, so be careful with those notes as they might sound a bit unnatural.

(They are just there as a safety margin). But please be aware that there are areas of the

keyboard in all of the voices in this pack, which will not produce a sound (because they

are out of the range of the voices).

All of the sounds are in 8’ pitch (same pitch as the piano voice, or as an 8’ organ voice). This is

to make them easy to combine with other voices, such as pipe organ or strings. But please

note that this is different from the internal choir and vocal voices on Tyros5 and Genos!

(Those are typically at 16’) So if you want to layer the Concert Choir with those voices,

you’ll need to shift the octave of one of them.

There is also a solo Opera Singer, with two different articulations: ‘Ah’ and ‘Uh’. This voice has

a wide range, and a very wide and typical vibrato. Very nice for solos, accompanied by the

mixed Choir.

Registration Memories

There is a bank of Registration Memories featuring voices of the Concert Choir combined with

on-board voices. These registrations are designed mainly as ‘full keyboard’ layers, but they will

work well for single note, solo melodies too. The PSR-S Series and Tyros5 settings have 8

Registration Memories, and Genos has 10.

In some Registrations there is a ‘Left’ voice, which is intended for a single supporting bass note,

under a right hand chord. If you use a style, it’s best to turn off the Left part in these.
