mythological stories that how garbha

effect on characters like Abhimanyu,

Astavakra and Prahlad who were

The activities of the mother during

emotion), conversation with the foetus

(talk) or expression of feeling (touch) is

not only recognized by the unborn

baby but also has positive effects on

physical and mental health. Hence,

Garbha samskara is a scientific way of

moulding the unborn child's mental

health.

Garbha samskara is an intentional

activity that helps develop an intuitive

connection with the unborn baby. It

increases communication and bonding

with baby, and it can transmit positive

thought, love and emotions to the

foetus. This increases the likelihood of

the baby.

List of Garbha Samskara activities

for pregnant women

According to Ayurveda, Garbha

samskara is one of the best ways to

give birth to a healthy baby. It's all

about the mother maintaining a good

state of mind, mentally and physically,

emotionally and spiritually. Ayurvedic

garbha samskara suggests specific

guidelines to keep in mind for the

pregnant mother.

These include:

Introduction

Every parent wants the best for their

child. A healthy pregnancy is

necessary to ensure the baby's well-

being after birth too. Garbha samskara

has gained popularity as an enabler for

the baby's mental and physical

development.

The knowledge of garbha samskara

dates back to ancient scriptures and is

included in the Ayurveda. The word

garbha in Sanskrit refers to the foetus

in the womb, and samskara means the

mind's education. So, garbha

samskara translates into educating the

mind of the unborn baby. It is

traditionally believed that a child's

mental and behavioural development

starts in the womb as the mother's

nutrition of the mother. According to

Ayurveda, the ahara- rasa, which is

nutrition or energy obtained from the

mother's diet, helps nourish the mother

herself and the growth of baby and

preparation for breast milk formation. A

balanced diet full of vitamins and

minerals is recommended to this end.

The garbha samskara foods in

pregnancy should have a proportional

amount of calcium, folic acid and iron.

Garbha samskara food in pregnancy

includes sattvic food which refers to

freshly prepared nutrient-rich food

consisting of all five tastes: sweet,

salty, pungent, bitter and sour.

Ayurveda recommends the

consumption of panchamrut, which is

beneficial for boosting potency and

immunity. This is made with one spoon

curd, honey, sugar and two spoons of

ghee or clarified butter mixed with eight

milk spoons. Abstinence from addictive

substances is advised.

Positive thinking

Pregnancy can make one moody and

irritable. Garbha samskara helps

manage good emotions both for the

mother and the baby. The mother could

cultivate a hobby or do things that

make her happy.

Practising yoga or some form of

light exercise

Garbha samskara recommends that

pregnant women take up some light

form of exercise or yoga for the

physical well- being of both the mother

and the child.

Here are the benefits of exercise:

1. Pranayama breathing exercises help

calm and relax the body while

preparing you for breath- control during

child birth.

2. Light exercise increase flexibility,

improves blood circulation and reduces

backaches during pregnancy.

3. Specific garbha samskara yoga

asanas boost the mother's chances of

having a full-term normal delivery with

minimal labour pain.

Meditation

Meditation is an essential aspect of

garbha sanskar and is beneficial for

the body as it de- stresses the mind. It

involves getting into 'zero state of

mind', which can help bring peace and

tranquillity, and enhance

concentration—visualizing good things

about the baby. At the same time,

meditating is also a great way to bond

and think positively, which can help

both mother and baby.

Prayer

Praying is an integral part of garbha

samskara and is believed to be

suitable for the spiritual development of

the baby. Ancient scriptures contain

mantras and shlokas, which are

beneficial for unborn babies. The

prayers that are chanted bless the

baby with good health and moral

values and are an essential part of

spiritual beliefs.

Listening to music which brings

peace to mind

Garbha samskara states that a baby

can respond to music while in the

mother's womb. Ancient literature says

that a baby starts hearing and

responding to its surroundings from the

fourth month of pregnancy. This is why

the mother should listen to melodious

music which clams her. Soft and

spiritual songs or mantras and shlokas

are said to be beneficial for both the

mother and the child.

Reading spiritual books

Garbha samskara recommends

reading spiritual books, which brings

about contentment and satisfaction.

Garbha samskara also stresses that

reading educational books shapes the

child's personality in the womb. It is

believed that reading when pregnant

can help pass on the wisdom to the

unborn child. Books with moral values

or mythological stories are

recommended, but one can always

choose another book you enjoy

reading.

Keeping the mind relaxed and happy

As per garbha samskara, the mother

should not indulge in activities or

practices that stress her. Taking undue

stress or watching or reading things

that scare or worry you are not

recommended during pregnancy as

they trigger hormones that may harm

the foetus. One should be physically,

mentally, emotionally and spiritually

contented during the nine months for

the baby's sake.

Consuming herbal ghee during

pregnancy

Medicated ghee made from cow's milk

ghee is recommended during the 4th,

5th, 7th, 8th and 9th month of

pregnancy by Ayurveda. It is said to be

beneficial for the baby's mental and

physical development and can help

prevent congenital abnormalities in the

foetus. According to Ayurveda,

medicated ghee might also help the

mother have a full-term normal

delivery.

Benefits of garbha samskara during

pregnancy

It is up to the mother to shape up the

baby's first impressions. Positive

thinking and a positive attitude can go

a long way in ensuring the mental and

physical well- being of the mother,

which is linked to well- being of the

baby inside her womb. Garbha

samskara helps develop that eternal

bond between the mother and her

unborn child.

While experts encourage practising

garbha samskara for the well being of

the mother, there are also long- term

benefits for the baby that might not

immediately be recognized.

Communication with the baby is

'garbha samwaad' that contributes to

the baby's mental growth and helps to

build a strong bond with the mother.

Listening to music and reading to the

unborn child can help make the baby

get sound sleep or induce better

sleeping habits. The baby might

become more alert, aware and

From the time of my admission till discharge, the experience was overwhelming. The hospital is serene and divine. I enjoyed my stay of seven days undoubtfully.

I need to mention some names here, Smt. Nanditha and Mr. Mallikarjun. Smt. Nanditha made the complete process seamless andMr. Mallikarjun took utmost care and made me feel at home. The hero of the entire session is Dr. Satish Pai, immensely learned and down to earth. The advice he gave is remarkable.

The doctors and staff here are extremely dedicated and caring especially Mr. Veerabadraswamy and Mr. Guruprasad took great care. They are very dedicated and committed. Our best wishes are always there for the team.

The hospital is in a serene location. It is spotless and silent. The doctors carefully listen to your symptoms and then suggest the best treatment course. The treatment is carried off in a thorough, systematic and professional manner—the facility of stay is very efficient. The doctors are very patience and clarify all your doubts. I recommend this hospital to my family and friends. I will continue to visit again with my family for further consultations.

As long as I stayed at JSS Ayurveda Hospital Mysuru, I was taken care of by a team of extremely caring professionals. All the services like Housekeeping, Nursing care, and Administration services are excellent. There is a scope to improve diet food services, and we certainly recommended JSS Ayurveda to our friends and relatives in the coming days.

confident. The baby might also

respond to stimulus better and be more

active and content. The mother-baby

bonding also benefits as your baby

might even begin breastfeeding in a

better way.

“Kapala” means Brain. “Bhathi”

means Shines/Purifies

This procedure helps in

detoxification and aids purification

of body, blood and brain. Hence it

is named as “Kapala Bhathi”.

Kapalabhathi is one of the six

internal cleansing procedures

called “Shat Kriya” in Hatha Yoga.

Like in Ayurveda we have

Panchakarma treatment for body

purification, in yoga, we have

“Shat Kriya” for detoxification of

the body organs.

Method: Sit in any comfortable

posture with Spine erect. Head

and Neck should be straight. One

can also attain “Padmasana, as

shown in figure/photo. Now, one

has to take a deep breath inside

(Pooraka), and then start

breathing out through both nostrils

forcefully and continuously. When

one exhalation is over, we should

give a small gap or pause without

taking inhalation before doing the

next exhalation. Moreover, during

each exhalation, one should suck-

in abdomen and flap the abdomen

muscles with in and out

movements. Like this, for one

single inhalation, one has to

continuously give 60 to 120

strokes of exhalation in one or two

minutes.

Initially, the practitioner may

perform only 10 to 20 strokes,

which can be increased gradually

in the future by practice.

Caution: Should be done in empty

stomach

Benefits: Because of continuous

exhalation, there will be the

expulsion of CO2 (Carbon

Dioxide) from blood, influencing

body purification. This is highly

useful in obesity, Indigestion,

Gastritis, Headache, Varicose

Veins, Arthritis, Gout, Diabetes,

Bronchial Asthama and Skin

Diseases.

Who Should Not Do This? –

Women during their menstrual

cycle, and Pregnancy, people

having Umbilical Hernia, Heart

Diseases, Hypertension,

Glaucoma, and Prolapse of

Uterus.

KAPALA BHATHI POMEGRANATE (DADIMA)
