C remation has become more prevalent as an end of life option, yet many people still don’t fully understand their choices. For example, some people are surprised to learn that cremation is recognized as an acceptable form of disposition by most major faiths. Cremation also offers a number of service options. You can celebrate the life of a loved one who has been cremated with or without a visitation, funeral or burial service. Or, you can have a simple memorial service at a local venue such as Robinswood or Clise Mansion. It is also important for you to learn and understand the differences between cremation providers. While price is an important consideration, you should know what your provider offers what your provider offers and what you receive for their fee. For example, Bonney-Watson differentiates itself from other cremation providers because we have on-site crematory facilities. This means that your deceased family member never leaves our care, reducing chances for error. We also encourage families to personally inspect our crematory facilities, and we strictly adhere to a code of ethics that assures you of our commitment to dignity and honesty. The choice is always yours. At Bonney-Watson, we’ll work hard to make sure you are completely satisfied with the choice you make. Cremation has become more prevalent as an end of life option, yet many people still don’t fully understand their

choices. For example, some people are surprised to learn that cremation is recognized as an acceptable form of disposition by most major faiths. Cremation also offers a number of service options. You can celebrate the life of a loved one who has been

cremated with or without a visitation, funeral or burial service.

Providing Hope and Help

The Multi-Service Center in Federal Way provides support to help people in the community become

more self-reliant. Last year, more than 50,000 people in South King and North Pierce counties found hope and help through educational programs, employment assistance, food and clothing, financial education, elder advocacy, housing and energy assistance.

Bonney-Watson partners with the Multi-Service Center to help make the Federal Way community a healthier, safer and more compassionate place to live, work and raise a family. This year, we were once again a proud sponsor of their Annual Crab Feed and Auction, which raised more than $60,000 to support programs that provide people with basic needs and resources to build pathways out of poverty.

Where Friends Meet Friends

Bonney-Watson is a proud business sponsor of the Ballard Northwest Senior Center. The Center’s

mission is to promote the emotional, social and physical well-being of older adults. More informally, they help people connect with other like-minded, active people through a wide variety of activities and programs.

The Center provides many different classes and services, ranging from legal consultations, tours and travel, and arts and crafts to card games, computer classes and others. In addition, they offer a number of health and wellness programs covering exercise, nutrition and even Tai Chi. Clubs range from knitting and quilters groups to book clubs and Bible study groups. There’s even a Red Hat Club and a Wii Sports and Fitness Club.

Bonney-Watson and Wiggen & Sons have been part of the Ballard community for many years, and our support of the Ballard Northwest Senior Center further cements our role in this vibrant neighborhood.

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

Cycle of Excellence (continuedfrompage1)

Seattle’s population numbered about 150 mortal souls when Oliver C. Shorey and his wife, Mary Emeline

Bonney, came to town. The year was 1861. Shorey and his partner A.P. DeLin ran a cabinet shop and furniture store. In 1868, the two added casket-making to their list of services. And thus began the company we know today as Bonney-Watson.

As Seattle’s population increased, so did the need for caskets. In 1881, L.W. Bonney, a brother-in-law of Shorey, joined the firm. The Shorey/Bonney name survived until 1889, the year of the Great Fire.

Rebuilding After The Great Seattle FireAfter the fire, Shorey retired and sold his company shares to G.M. Stewart. Ten years later, Harry M. Watson bought out Stewart and for the first time, the Bonney-Watson name went up on their building at Third Avenue and Columbia Street.

In 1912, the company moved to larger facilities at Broadway Avenue and East Olive, where it remained for half a century. The building was sold to Seattle Community College in 1962, and Bonney-Watson moved up Broadway to their present location on Capitol Hill.

In 1978, Bonney-Watson acquired Washington Memorial Park and Mortuary, located north of SeaTac Airport. In 1989, we added a funeral home in Federal Way and in 2000, we acquired Wiggen & Sons Funeral Home in Ballard.

Since we have been providing funeral services since 1868, this makes Bonney-Watson Seattle’s oldest continually operating business.

Young At HeartBut our company is anything but old in spirit. Throughout our 142-year history, Bonney-Watson has earned and maintained a legacy of providing excellent customer service.

It goes without saying that if a company is able to remain in business for more than 140 years, it must be doing something right. We are proud to use our years of experience to help families celebrate the lives of those that were dear.

for this great organization.

Congratulations to the Ballard Rotary Club for a successful Ballard Island Luau Auction in April. Bonney-Watson/Wiggen & Sons was a major sponsor of this event, which netted more than $40,000.
