OCTOBER: NATIONAL BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH This October, ACMC is proud to participate in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the second most common kind of cancer in women. About 1 in 8 women born today in the United States will get breast cancer at some point. The good news is that many women can survive breast cancer if it’s found and treated early. If you are a woman age 40 to 49, talk with your doctor about when to start getting mammograms and how often to get them. If you are a woman age 50 to 74, be sure to get a mammogram every 2 years. You may also choose to get them more often. Talk to a doctor about your risk for breast cancer, especially if a close family member of yours had breast or ovarian cancer. Your doctor can help you decide when and how often to get mammograms. Mammography is the gold standard test for diagnosing breast cancer. The ACMC Mammography Program is accredited by the American College of Radiology. We offer expert care by board certified radiologists and certified mammography technologists. ACMC is proud to offer digital mammography technology. The benefits of digital mammography include: •Ability to adjust the contrast and brightness to improve image quality •Ability to see the image immediately - no film to be developed •Optimal compression of the breast for the best results •Reduced exposure to radiation during the exam •Computer Assisted Diagnosis alerts physicians to specific area of the image •Ability to view multiple images on the screen for comparison To schedule a mammogram, contact your physician for a referral. How healthy are your most important assets?

Your employees are your greatest assets. They also reflect your business’s greatest expense in the form of salaries and benefits. You can protect that asset – and reduce expenses – by investing in employee health and wellness initiatives. One of the largest benefit costs absorbed by companies and organizations is healthcare.

Lifestyle factors, including smoking, poor nutrition habits, and physical inactivity increase the burden of chronic disease. Poor lifestyle choices lead to costly medical intervention to treat what are often avoidable illnesses.

The best way to reduce healthcare costs is to improve the health of your employees – and long-term lifestyle changes are key to making that happen.

FRIGHTENINGLY FATTENING FALL FOODS Potpie Perils: When fall arrives, many of us turn to hearty foods, like creamy chicken potpie. One pie from the grocery freezer case can have more than 1,000 calories. For a fraction of the calories, try a flavorful roast chicken breast and a warm, whole wheat roll.Game-Day Grub: Favorites like chips, nachos, pizza, wings, and ribs can spoil your diet. If you’re a sports fan, you may also be glued to the couch for hours every week, so you’re not burning off the extra calories.•Serve veggies and low-fat dip as part of your spread.•Eat from a plate instead of grazing at the buffet. This helps you keep track of how much you’re eating.Halloween Candy: October brings bags of candy home to await trick-or-treaters. It’s easy to get bewitched by those bite-size candies. But few of us can have just one.•Stash sweets out of sight.•Satisfy your midday hunger pangs with something nutritious, like fruit.•If you crave something sweet, chew a piece of sugarless gum.Chubby Chili: You could get 500 calories in a bowl, depending on the recipe. The same goes for other meaty stews, which are often loaded with fatty beef or sausage and topped with gobs of cheese. Yet, chili and stew can be good choices when made right. Use small portions of lean meat, plenty of beans, vegetables, and spices, and just a sprinkle of low-fat cheese. In restaurants, check the calorie count before ordering. All Things in Moderation: All it takes is an extra 100 calories per day to pack on 10 pounds a year. The best strategy for your health is to avoid weight creep altogether by enjoying fall comfort foods in moderation.•Check your portion sizes.•Limit alcohol.•Eat plenty of veggies prepared without added fat or sugar.•Use low-fat cooking techniques and substitutions.•Put candy bowls out of sight.source: http://www.webmd.com/diet/ss/slideshow-frighteningly-fattening-fall-foods?ecd=wnl_wlw_092315&ctr=wnl-wlw-092315_nsl-ld-stry&mb=c7aSwfQo7h%4051F68Y3Rr0ChonS%2fH3cwyY61VLOpTkMc%3d
