    High-containment laboratory certification is the systematic review andevaluation of all safety features and processes associated with thelaboratory (engineering controls, personal protective equipment,building and system integrity, standard operating procedures (SOPs))and administrative controls. The methodology for certifying a BSL-3will assist professionals in ensuring that all reasonable facility controlsand prudent practices are in place to minimize, to the greatest extentpossible, the risks associated with laboratory operations and the use ofbiohazardous materials.

Continuous maintenance is defined as follows:

    The standard shall be maintained by an accredited standards developer. A documented program for periodic publication ofrevisions shall be established by the standards developer. Processing of these revisions shall be in accordance with theseprocedures. The published standard shall include a clear statement of the intent to consider requests for change andinformation on the submittal of such requests. Procedures shall be established for timely, documented consensus action oneach request for change and no portion of the standard shall be excluded from the revision process.   • Proposed Foreign Government Regulations Call for Comment U.S. manufacturers, exporters, regulatory agencies and standards developing organizations may be interested in proposed foreign technical regulations issued by Member countries of the World Trade Organization (WTO). In accordance with the WTO Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT Agreement), Members are required to report proposed technical regulations that may significantly affect trade to the WTO Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland. In turn, the Secretariat disseminates the information to all WTO Members.
