They each gave a brief rundown on what they got f:DOll1the symposium along with personal highlights. The attendees were Tad Achter- . berg, Bruce Delles, Fran Frisch, Jim Gerholdt, Ann Forwoll, and Brin~ Spencer. Tom Schmitz also attended the symposium but couldn't make the meeting. Jim, Ann, and Brint also showed slides from the trip. Attendance was 69.

Herp Hints

August was a busy meeting for herp hints. John Jesmer inquired if anyone else had had problems feeding Leopard Frogs to garter snakes, as his had died shortly after their meals. It was asked if they might have been Pickerel Frogs. The answer was not. Possibly they were contaminated? 'llhe Earine Toad reported last month with an enlarged paratoid gland was updated. 1he glad had been treated with ointment and the raw area became an open sore. The toad.was taken off sphagnum and is now on newpaper being treated with Panalog (the toad, not the paper) and is improving. Has anyone else had problems with sphagnum? Bruce Gutler reported on some recent research in rv:ani toba that showed that some male Red Sided Garter Snakes (Thamnophis sirtalis parietalis) emitted female pheramons. The ratio was 1~ to 15% of all of the males. Possibly this is to confuse the other males in the mating frenzies in the spring. It was also suggested that possibly these might be transplanted San Francisco Garter Snakes?

Southeast Herp Survey Update

Three survey trips have taken place this year. A total of 27 sites have been visited by 23 MHS surveyors. \Ve have averaged 12 surveyors per trip.

A total of 19 species have been recorded. The highlights to date are: a five-lined skink from Houston County, which is a major range extension for the state; a Blanding's turtle from Clmstead County, a new county for this threatened species; and bullfrogs from Houston County where we doubled the state range by adding one township!

The last survey trip will be on the 14th and 15th of September. The main emphasis will be a skink report from Fillmore County. rrhose interested in participating should contact John l10riarty (781-673 2) by 9 ceptember.

Help A Hapless Herp

After a rather lean adoption program for a while, we came up with a few at the last meeting. Finding homes were a nice male Burmese python and a clutch of captive hatched Western Fox Snakes that were brought in by John Jesmer. And right now we have some super herps that are also hapless in the works. For the september meeting we have a nice 10" Leopard Tortoise (Geochelone pardalis) and likely a San Diego Alligator Lizard (Gerrhonotus multicarinatus webbi). We are also in the process of lining up an adult pair of Common Boas. Things are looking up!
