val 2014, Tainan Tourism Bu-

reau bring a bounty of professional photogra-

phers from countrywide to reveal the hidden

o essence of Tainan’s gourmets. Through the

lens of acclaimed Tainan’s food, the local gov-

ernment is looking forward to aract more

people to take part in this campaign and join

this annual gastronomic celebraon.  

The campaign will start from 1 August and end

on 22 September. There is no restricon

on age, gender or naonality. People with pas-

sion on food and photography would be warm-

ly welcome to parcipate.

The video format for the compeon will be a

clip of 30s or 60-120s, with no special require-

ment on the video camera, but only accept

MPG, MPEG, AVI, WMV and MOV le. The vid-

eo must have resoluon above 1280x720.

Join prize draw and learn its plants at Nanyuan 

A 

prize-draw entled “Learn about the Plants” recently began at the Nan Yuan Gar-

den Resort Farm. From now unl August 30, 2014, each visitor will be given a prize-

draw coupon upon purchase of a full-price or half 

-price admission cket. Prizes in-

clude iPhone 5s, iPad mini, and free lake cabin stays.  

There are more than 2,000 plant species and more than 200,000 forest trees on the farm. It

even has a 500-year-old autumn maple tree, a 200-hundred-year-old orange jasmine tree, and

the one-and-only silk oss tree. Rare owers can be appreciated all year round. For families

with lile kinds, this is the place to learn about plants and have fun.

“The view of the Tainan Waterway is superior to that of the Takeshi Kaneshivo

Avenue. But how can it, the beauty of Shanshang, be promoted?” Shanshang Dis-

trict is home to the Tainan Waterway, a naonal historic site, and many other

scenic spots in Tainan. To plug Shanshang’s tourism, the Shanshang District Oce

made a 11-minute micro-lm tled “Roaming Shanshang” recently. The hope,

said Chen Jinwen, the district oce chief, is to broadcast to the world the grace

of Shanshang.

n August 6, the district

oce organized a screen-

ing event, where 500

copies of the photograph

-book featuring the highlights of the

lm—the Tainan Waterway, the wa-

ter puricaon plant, the Tianhou

Temple, and the Orchid Garden—

were distributed to all district oce

chiefs and city government agencies,

the Japanese Exchange Associaon,

and Hsu Wenlung, founder of the

Qimei Group and sponsor of the Tai-

nan Waterway promoon. 

The micro-lm opens with a Japa-

nese architectural engineer, Toju

Yamagami, who comes overseas to

Shanshang in quest of his root aer

his grandfather tells him about the

many “treasures” hidden in the area.

The hero chances upon the heroine

at the Orchid Garden, and embarks

on a tour of Shanshang under her

lead.

The viewership has hit 26,000 since

the lm went online in July. The her-

oine is played by 26-year-old Wu

Jirung, the daughter of the Orchid

Garden owner. Having gone to

school in Japan for six years, Wu,

uent in Japanese, took up the acng

for free. “I have never seen the beau-

ty of my hometown up close. Parci-

pang in the lm was an awe-

inspiring experience. In the future, I

will tour the area in depth with our

foreign clients, guided by this experi-

ence.” 

Shanshang is preer than she had

imagined, said Wu. It has the plusesof being rich in culture and history.

Though suering egregious mosquito

bites during the two-day lm-

shoong, she felt honored to have

been a part of the process. Before,

the foreign clients of the Orchid Gar-

den had a hard me nding things to

do in Shanshang, she said. The lm

puts the aracons on the map.  

According to Chen, Shanshang has a

populaon of mere 7600 and suers

severe manpower drain. Neverthe-

less, it commands a prisne environ-

ment. The road along the Tainan

Waterway, fringed with greeneries, is

especially lovely—no less lovely, it is

said, than the renowned Takeshi

Kaneshivo Avenue. The Shanshang

All-Season Water Park, boasng 280

woods species, is scheduled to be

built on the quondam Shanshang

Nursery. The project will be contract-

ed out in August and completed at

the year’s end. The district oce is

looking to holding next year’s Spring

Fesval Floral Rite at the new park,

which is expected to draw more

crowds into Shanshang.
