VOLLEYBALL AND MATHS The volleyball exercises are designed to the 4th-6th graders. They are done in different group sizes depending on the class level, size and ressources. The results of the measurements are written on the results card. Exercises:
1. Pulse checking2. Court measuring by using different units of measurements.3. Player positions practise4. Game playing and scoring
Analysis of the results, variations of the units of measurements, surface areas etc. according to the class level in different lessons (for ex. maths).
WARMING UP Sit down and check your pulse at
your wrist for 15 seconds. Multiply the result by four and keep it in mind.
Make your pulse going up with some movements for 1-2 minutes (for ex. running and different jumps).
Make your pulse going down.
What do you notice?
By working in pairs or in groups, measure by using the the court dimensions (length and width) and write them on the results card.

PLAYER POSITIONS ON THE COURT
Go to the court positions 1-6 as shown in the figure.
Follow the teacher’s instructions. Practise how to move from one position to another clockwise (1-6 positions at once).
Learn the position numbers according to the teacher’s instructions. For instance by crouching.
Change positions by shouting the numbers (for example 2 and 5).
Start playing volleyball by taking the ball in your hands and going forward according to your level. (maximum of 3 hits per side and the ball over the net)
Practise the rally scoring (one point/ball until 15 points for instance).
Practise the position changing.
