  • Volleyball Ireland Scoresheet

    • Is used for all VI Events in Ireland.

    • It is also used in Schools Competitions.

    • It should be recorded in either BLUE or BLACK ink and using BLOCK CAPITAL LETTERS.

  • Pre-Match Responsibilities

    Fill in the match details • Name of competition, match venue, match

    type, division, men or women, date and scheduled start time of the match.

    • Record the Team List.

    • Record the Referees in the Approval Section.

    The Approval Section should be filled out prior to the start of the match.

    • The Referees for the match must be signed into the Approval Section of the score sheet before the start of the match. They must record their first and last name and their Registration Number.

    • Linejudges 1-4’s Names must also be recorded.

    • Signatures will be obtained from the Referees and Captains at the conclusion of the match.

  • Recording the Scoresheet-Prior to the Match

    Fill in the team abbreviations and mark an “X” over the respective R and S to denote which team is serving and which team is receiving.

    Mark an “X” in the first box of the receiving team. When they get to serve they will have to rotate.

  • The Rotation Slip

    After the Warm UP:The coach from each team will submit their rotation slip to the second referee.

    The second referee will then give the line-upto the scorer to record on the score sheet.Note: Once the line-up is submitted, nofurther changes can be made to the line-up.

  • Check the Rotation Numbers

    Check the numbers on rotation slip against the numbers recorded on the team list.

    If a discrepancy exists, inform the 2nd referee immediately.

  • Recording the Scoresheet-Prior to the Match

    • If no discrepancy exists between the rotation slip and the team list, record the player numbers on the scoresheet.

    •Start with the bottom right and go counter clockwise on the scoresheet

    The exit score to close a rotation box represents the team’s score when the player has finished serving.

    Record the time of the first service contact.The points are all recorded by using a diagonal line.

    • Team B is requesting a substitution. #9 enters the substitution zone.

    • The referee blows the whistle indicating a substitution. The 2nd referee will very briefly

    hold the substitute and player they are replacing at the sideline in the substitution zone.

  • Substitution

    Check the scoresheet to verify that player #9 is a legal sub.

    1. They must not have taken part in a previous substitution during the same set with another starting player.

    2. 2. They must be registered on the team list.

    If legal, record the substitution.

    If not legal, raise one hand and let the referee know that the request for substitution is illegal.

  • Substitutions

    • The Assistant Scorer will say, “#8 is replaced by #9. The score is 5 to 12.”• Mark a “9” below player number “8” and record the score. When recording the score, the first number

    is always the team that requests the substitution.• Once complete, raise both hands (palms facing out) to signal that play can be resumed. This signal is

    used at the end of all interruptions.

  • Substitutions

    • Should there be a second substitution for the same pairing of players you will simply repeat the process.

    • The Assistant Scorer will say, “#9 is replaced by #8. The score is 12 to 22.”

    • When finished, you must circle the number of the substitute player to indicate that he/she may not re-enter the set.

  • First Time Out

    • The coach from Team A requests and is granted a Time out.

    • Team A has 22 points, Team B has 21 points.

    • Record the score in the first “T” box, beginning with the score of the team that called the Time out.

    • The coach from Team A requests and is granted a second Time out.

    • TCD wins the first set.

    • Cross off point 25 and record TCD’s finishing score of 25 in the next available service box.

    • Cross off all unused points to prevent any further changes to this set.

    Don’t forget to record the end time of the first set.

  • Second Set

    • All subsequent sets, except the deciding set (3rd or 5th) are organized in the same fashion as set one.• The only difference is the Teams change sides (B is on the left, A is on the right).

    • A new line-up must be submitted by the coach for every set. Verify the line-up against the team list before writing the player numbers on the score sheet.

  • Deciding Set

    • The Deciding Set is Set 3 - in a best 2 of 3 Match Or Set 5 - in a best 3 of 5 Match.

    The deciding sets works in a similar manner as all previous sets.

    As the scorer, you will have to:1) Be aware of the deciding set coin toss conducted by the officials in front of the scorer’s table2) Fill in the three (3) letter team abbreviations4) Fill in “A” and “B” based on the results of the coin toss Put an “X” over the respective S and R for each team5) Put an “X” in the first box of the receiving team6) Verify the line-up against the team list before writing the player numbers on the score sheet7) Initial the back of rotation slips

  • Deciding Set

    There are, however, some differences in the organisation process.

    As the scorer, you will have to:8) Transcribe the information for the team on the left side of the score sheet to the far right side of the

    score sheet9) Fill in the starting time for the set (three (3) minutes following the end of the previous set)

    For the first eight (8) points of the set, only look at the left part of the sheet.

    The scoring example is broken down into three sections:1) Start of set through until the first time out (TCD at 1:5)2) From the first time out until the first substitution (TCD at 3:6)3) From the first substitution until the change of court

    After one of the teams attains eight (8) points, the teams will be directed to change sides of the court

    During the change of courts, as the scorer, the following must be completed:1) Record the points at changeNote: Points at Change refers only to the number of points scored by this team.

    2) Remind the 2nd referee who the next server is on each team so they can check the team’s rotation after the change is complete

    • The only piece of information transferred to the right hand side of the score sheet is the substitute number.

    • None of the other information on the left hand side of the score sheet is transferred to the right hand side.

    If a team wins a set, mark a “1” in the respective box of the win column. For the team that was not successful, mark a “0” in the respective box.

    If sanctions are required, they will be recorded here.

  • Delay Sanctions Example

    Delay Sanctions are team sanctions and remain in effect for duration of the match.

    To record a delay warning:1) Mark a D under the warning column2) Record the team set and score.

    To record a delay penalty:1)Mark a D under the penalty column.2 Record the team, set and score

  • Sanction Section

    • When a player or coach is sanctioned by warning (stage 2), penalty, expulsion or disqualification, the information is recorded in the sanctions section, as directed by the second referee.

    • Mark the respective player number or “C ”, “AC ”, “T”, “M” for other team members.

    To record a Warning:

    1)Stage 2 warning is applied with a yellow card.

    2)Mark the player number or abbreviated team member under the warning column.

    3) Record the team, set and score

    To record a Penalty

    1) Penalties are applied through the use of a red card.

    2) Mark the player number or abbreviated team member under the penalty column.

    3) Record the team, set and score.

    To record a Expulsion

    1) Expulsions are applied through the joint use of a red and yellow card.

    2) Mark the player number or abbreviated team member under the expulsion column

    The remarks section is used to record any additional information that is relevant to the match

    For example:

    1) Improper requests2) Technical time outs applied for blood3) Change of uniforms due to blood4) Protest(s)5) Exceptional substitutions6) Unusual delays and their length (in minutes)

    After the match is finished, signatures are collected to verify the results recorded on the scoresheet.

    • Signatures will be obtained from the officiating members (except the line judges) and captains at the conclusion of the match.

    • The assistant scorer and scorer sign the scoresheet first.

    • The team captains then sign next.

    • After the team captains have signed the score sheet, the second referee will check the score sheet and sign the approval box as verification of the match results.

    • After the second referee has signed the score sheet, the first referee will check the score sheet and sign the approval box as verification of the match results.
