Marion County Profile
County Seat: Ocala Population Est. 2011-332,529
Welcome to Ocala and Marion County– where the charm and grace of the South blend with
modern culture. Our rolling hills, expansive horse farms, sparkling springs and graceful oak
trees beckon travelers to stop and experience the diversity of our many towns, large and
small. Marion County is more than a place to live.. It’s a place to be experienced.
Forks and Spades Forks and spades have shafts of different lengths and materials:
metal shafts are stronger than wood, and may be plastic-covered.
Rake A rake can be used to level soil or to clear the ground. Clear lawns of leaves and
thatch using a spring-tined rake.
Hand Trowel A hand fork and trowel are indispensable for weeding, planting young
plants and bulbs and small digging jobs. Hand forks are ideal for heavy clay soils.
Pruners Pruners are essential for many cutting jobs; choose a pair with a safety catch
and crossover blades.
Dutch Hoe A Dutch hoe is invaluable when it comes to clearing a large area of weeds.
The long handle helps to avoid a backache, which is often a consequence of weeding.
Pruning Saw A pruning saw is useful for cutting small branches; the blade folds away
on some types, but one with a fixed blade is a better choice if you have lots of shrubs.
Shears Shears are used for trimming long grass and small hedges, and for cutting
back herbaceous perennials. Before buying, be sure they are light enough for you to
use.
Lawn Mower, If you have grass, a lawn mower is a must have. Choose one that is the
right size for the lawn.
Garden Hose, Don’t skimp on this vital garden tool; look for a lightweight, hig-quality
hose that will be easy to carry and will last for years.
Wheelbarrow, A wheelbarrow or garden cart makes it easy to haul everything from rolls
of sod to mulch to your fall pumpkin harvest.
Hori Hori Knife, This lightweight, multi use knife can be used for dividing and trans-
planting perennials, weeding, digging and more.
Loppers, Loppers help you prune branches and suckers that are too thick for regular
pruners– look for long handled types to reach tall branches.
Edger Nothing sets off garden beds like a nice, crisp edge. Edgers create dramatic
lines where the lawn meets walkways and beds and are used much like a spade.

Hundreds of race horses were up for
sale on June 18th at OBS in Ocala
and for the first time since the his-
toric Triple Crown win, horses with
the same stallion as American
Pharoah were auctioned off. Al-
though there is no guarantees any
horse in the sale could replicate his
historic run, one horse whose owners
never even gave it a name was at-
tracting a lot of attention.
That’s because of his bloodline. The
horse was sired by Pioneer of the
Nile, the same stallion who sired
American Pharoah

Horses in the June two-year old sale
typically go for about $30,000, but it
was quickly apparent “Horse 617”
would bring in much more. Collazo
ended up selling the horse for
$130,000, while helping to add to
what the Sales’s Publicity Director
said has already been seen as record
spending. Full article online at my 13 news.com
