VOLUME 1 ISSUE 4 ! NOVEMBER 1, 2012 ! PAGE 1 G. GAZETTE OBAMACARE ! Everyone has heard of ObamaCare, but how many people actually know the facts? Because both our candidates have taken positions on universal healthcare, mainly against it,  we’re giving you the facts on what ObamaCare really is. ObamaCare is a revamp of the Patient Protection and  Aff ordable Care Act. The overall goal is to reform the health care industry and provide a ff ordable health care to all U.S. citizens. ObamaCare is the largest middle class tax cut in history and will bring billions of dollars in tax relief. Under this law, regular American families can pay whatever they can a ff ord for healthcare. ! ObamaCare also recongures private insurance, Medicare and Medicaid, but it does not replace them.  The new laws cut over $700 billion of excess from these programs and channels them to other areas. ObamaCare aids businesses, too, by off ering tax credits. All sounds good, right? Of course, not all people agree. Opponents argue ObamaCare will increase the decit by trillions, but advocates counter that without ObamaCare, millions of Americans will go without healthcare coverage. What does all this mean? There are some good things about ObamaCare, but there are plenty to bad things too. !  The biggest problem with ObamaCare is the cost. The legislation will raise healthcare costs and cost pharmaceutical companies over $80 billion over the next ten years. And, of course, taxes will rise. Many preexisting policies will have to change to meet the new standards, especially private and company sponsored policies. ! ! Now that you have the facts, you have to make  your own opinions on ObamaCare and Universal Health Care. Do the benets outweigh the costs? That choice is up to you. ! POLL RESULTS: LEGALIZATION OF MARIJUANA

! We asked your opinions on the legalization of marijuana through a recent poll. The results wereoverwhelming to say the least! Approximately 52% of students and faculty in SLHS do not support thelegalization of marijuana. This means that 48% of students and faculty in SLHS support the legalization of

marijuana. The great thing about living in America is that citizens can form their own opinions on certainissues and they don’t need to explain themselves to anyone. Candidates running for office, on the other hand, need to explain why they support/oppose certain issues.!  The proper explanation of their views can influence citizens to vote for them. The candidates sharesimilar viewpoints. Omar Ikka supports the legalization of marijuana, but believes that there should be a tax on it. Ulysses S. Alderado supports the legalization of marijuana also, and he would like to see a heavy tax onit. The candidates will explain this viewpoint along with many others at the debate on Monday!

BIO - OMAR IKKA

! Omar Ikka is a 53 year old from our owndistrict. He has been an active community memberhere for his entire life. He is married and has three

children, a real family man. When he graduated fromhigh school, he got a degree from Iowa State

University and went on to start a successful farm with that degree. Omar Ikka believes that the hard work and discipline that being a community member, father, farmer, and politician at the same

time will help him to become a candidate thatIowa’s fourth district can be proud of. We have little word yet on his platform, but I do know that heseems to be the guy to go to if you need assistance.Hopefully more on this active candidate will appearin the coming issues.

Who is Ulysses? For those of  you that don’t know, I’m going to give you some information on thiscandidate.

Ulysses S. Alderado isoriginally from Spirit Lake, Iowa. His parents Jack, a farmer, and Jill,

a school teacher, raised Ulysses. He married Joy; now Joy Alderado, and together they had two sons,Steel and Andy. They also have onedaughter Summer. Steel is five years old, Andy eight years old,and Summer is three.

Ulysses attended HarvardUniversity, to study business andlaw. After graduating fromHarvard, he started a seed

company. He decided to jump into a

political career shortly after graduation, As a democrat, Ulyssesis pro-life, for gun rights, andthinks we need to legalizemarijuana for medicinal uses only,

and it would be taxed. States would be in control gay rights as well. While keeping the minimum wage the same, he’ll continuet theNo Child Left Behind program.

The taxes will stay the same, andhe’d like to repeal ObamaCare.Ulysses also doesn’t want universalhealth care, and wants to makemilitary cuts.

This man has got a lot of swaying to do if he wants to see

his ideas come true, but for now atleast you know more about who your voting for if you choose thiscandidate.

ABORTION - ULYSSES S. ALDERADO

!

!  The topic is abortion and not many of the candidates followers have been willing toanswer some of the simplest questions. Ulysses S. Alderado has been very

accommodating when asked the toughest questions regarding abortion. He has stated very clearly that he is pro life and has very republican views. On the other hand, OmarIkka has been either hiding something about the topic, or they haven’t covered it yet. Coming from Rick Maris, from the Ikka campaign, “Abortion isn’t one of his main topics.” Even with that said, we still haven’t gotten much information about Omar Ikka’s views onabortion. We do know, however, Omar Ikka is pro choice. Hopefully within the nextcouple days, he’ll be able to definefor others where he stands and how they will go about trying to win the votes of the fellow student body.

!  This article will be onabortion and how important it isto be pro-life. An insider

from 6th hour class informed methis time, they are definitely pro-life! Obviously killing

babies is wrong, if you aren’t at all choked up when you seen a beautiful new born baby, I don’tunderstand, because you were that way once. You were born. The Democratic party makes a very validpoint that life begins at conception. If you choose toabort that, then you must be willing to deal with theconsequences. One out of three pregnancies areunplanned, worldwide. It is a great privilege to beable to conceive a baby and raise it.

! If it is illegal to kill someone, why is it okay for doctors who perform this task to be uncharged?Killing an embryo and fetus’ is literally, the exactsame thing. Tell me I’m wrong. The government doesprotect all hunan life, including those that areunfortunate in getting pregnant. So are other ways to

take care of the situation you are in besides justdirectly going and getting an Abortion.

! Should a 17 year old who committed murderbe tried as an adult? Brogan Ra ff erty, 17, lured four

victims at separate times with false job off ers onCraigslist. The main plot behind the scheme was torob them, but things got out of hand when RichardBeasley, Ra ff erty’s accomplice, allegedly shot andkilled three of the men, while the fourth was shot inthe arm a nd survived.

! On October 30, Brogan Ra ff erty was found guilty and faces life in prison with no parole for hispart in the deaths of three men in a Craigslistrobbery scheme. Prosecutors said that Ra ff erty wasquick and willing to partake in the murders while thedefense claimed that he was acting out of fear and

pressure from his accomplice, 53 year old, RichardBeasley.

! Brogan was tried as an adult and faces themaximum sentence of life in prison. His accomplice

Beasley plead not guilty and could end up facing thedeath penalty if convicted in his individual trial. I’dlike for you to decide, is it right for Brogan Ra ff erty to be tried as an adult?
